I think this team needs to add more talent... not necessarily young ones. ideally, yes. But I would not overpay for KCP.

I also think that any more salary dump must be no longer than 2 years.

I much rather overpay older veterans in a 2 year deal. Keep us somewhat competitive this year while the young guys develop. Year after, they are expiring deals. We get our pick back in 2019. Them after that, all the dumps/short term contracts expire (except mozgov)

Nets couldn't have paid Dedmon 8 million a year? Come on man.

Free agency is the one area i dont trust the front office

KCP is a good idea but I'm fine with trusting the process and waiting for the right salary dump. 2019 is our realistic target year to start making moves IMO.

yeah, its not the end of the world but you dont get many chance to get 24 year olds at his level in free agency

Hold on. You DON'T trust the FO to overpay to acquire young talent? Isn't they were your distrust stems from?

i dont trust their judgement in free agency. and yes mostly for overpays. which is why this would be ironic to not sign him

To me the perfect scenario is absorb Aldrich for the OKC 1st and don't give out anything else this summer unless it's a 1 year deal for 1 or 2 glue guys/vet leaders with some actual on court value once every last bit of space dries up and there's a guy or 2 who have no other options.

i dont like the aldridge move. id want a better asset then the okc pick. im cool with salary dumps, but at this point the cap space needs to come at a premium

i love dedmon.

i think the issue is more that big isnt a need right now.

at center we have Mozgov as a vet, allen as a young guy and nicholson/acy to eat minutes

at pf we have booker as a vet, rhj as a young guy and acy to eat minutes

Yeah I agree with this. I'm not sure what's appealing with the OKC pick. I know the West is tough, but Russ/PG basically on contract years, barring injury, will go nuts to form their own superteam IMO.

2017 Nets Offseason Thread III

Post#590 » by Paradise » Wed Jul 12, 2017 1:58 am

Still a lot of good options available and we get our money untied by tomorrow. The verdict on the KCP decision will come soon.

E. Ilyasova, Jerebko, G. Green, T. Sefelosha, T. Allen, S. Mohammed, J. Simmons.

this list is vomit inducing for me...

simmons would be my nightmare.

mohammed im not a fan of and dont see a fit attitude wise or skillset wise

sefelosha green and allen are in their 30's

i like jereboko and ilyasova but both are in their 30s and dont move the needle. not worth tying up 9 million per year in cap for a guy like that.

for me its KCP or dont spend a dime

Ilyasova and Safelosha on 1 year deals > KCP

KCP might be a free agent again next year so we can try that again.

It doesn't have to obviously be long term contracts but this team still has a perimeter defense need and a stretch four unless acquired via trade.

I don't like the idea of 2 year deals unless the player is a home run and I don't see that older vet out there.

This season is not about wins, unless they are organic and/or because of the addition of long term pieces.

I hate the idea that we gift another high lotto pick to Boston, but that is reality unless things go swimingly. What's done is done, it is what it is, there is no getting next year's pick back.

It's all about the players currently on this roster developing to their ceilings, no matter what those ceilings eventually and ultimately are, while keeping future flexibility both asset-wise and cap management.

I'm with you, it takes some vets to keep the young guys in line and winning helps development to an extent as an in general and especially for us, cause with no control of our pick in '18, we need these guys to show and prove. But I'm not a fan of clogging the cap next summer to add 3 wins this season if it messes with the potential to add a final piece to the puzzle within the next 2 or 3 years.

100% agreed. Although I can still be sold on JaMychal Green at a super reasonable deal if Memphis would let him walk. But even him and even KCP, I'm not clamoring for them and I hope Marks feels the same.

But why do we "need a stretch four", at least specifically if they are some retread older dude who has no re-sign value once our young guys are up for extensions when we're locked in?

Again, I totally understand it's better for player development to have a complete team to run Kenny's system and get these guys accustomed to it so they can maximize their potential and we can weed out the long term fits from the assets. But that to me does not mean adding cap cloggers.

With all that said, a guy like Illyasova could be absolutely perfect because he may very well settle for a 1 year $8 to $14 million kind of deal. Make it 2 years, second a team option so he has no veto power on trades. That one I like the idea of.

Either sign KCP, or roll with who is already on the roster. No point in tripping over ourselves for guys who are barely better than who is already here.

It's not Aldridge I'm speaking of, it's Aldrich. He's essentially on a 1 year deal, his 2nd season is completely non-guaranteed afaik. Minny didn't/doesn't want to include the pick, so there has been no resolution. But if there really is someone they still want to sign right now, eventually they're going to have to include it, cause no one is absorbing that scrub without it.

Sure that OKC pick is going to be middling, but barring some crazy injuries league wide, it should be no worse than 24th and I'm guessing more like 21st.

Exactly.

Is a guy like Jerebko any better than Carroll? Or Booker? Is there a point in going after a Nerlens when we have Allen waiting in the wings learning from Atkinson while Mr. Mediocre Mozgod is helping him along?

Why add these middling vets when we have middling vets who are either going to expire and come off the cap, or were the necessary evil to attain 1st round picks and blue chip prospects?
