Haha! 1 year at 18 is better than long term getting 16 per??? Good luck to him.

For the 150th time, there's just no way you turn down 5yr/80mil for 1yr/18mil. We're only off 2mil in year one, stop it.

KCP if you're reading this, FIRE YOUR AGENT!

Actually I think this ended well for them. The market for restricted free agents outside of Porter is/was brutal this summer. A long-term deal with big money just wasn't in the cards regardless of what Rich Paul was going to do. And it's not like $18 million for one season is some kind of bargain. This is tremendous, and more than what Detroit was supposedly willing to offer for multiple years in regards to a per-year average value.

This gives Caldwell-Pope a chance to play well this season and hit the market immediately next summer as an unrestricted free agent. That's important because all of the money is available at that point, unlike for restricted free agents where the market doesn't get going until free agency officially begins/teams miss out on the unrestricted guys first during the moratorium.

Lakers have an interesting guard rotation now. I would assume Hill and Caldwell-Pope start, which is really good, with Ball and Clarkson coming off the bench as offensive spark plugs. I like it a lot. If Ingram gets going they will be a ton of fun to watch.

If we never renounced him, a S&T deal netting us Clarkson would have been nice.....

No way Lakers send an asset for a one year rental when they knew we were capped out. Ludicrous to think Lakers would have parted ways with JC. Not only were we capped out, most other teams with cap had spent their dough so unlikely to be able to piece together a large multi year deal.

But alas, KCP is a Laker

He'll be out there as an unrestricted free agent (from the start) next year looking for $25M/per.

This is just like Monroe playing for the QO except he's getting $18M. Not what he wanted, but better than playing for less than half of that with the Pistons at the QO.

Plus he gets way more exposure on the Lakers.

Solid defender who will disappear on offense about half the time.
