What is the vision?

To make playoffs from this point forward and hope our young kids develop. AB, if healthy, literally gurantees us the playoffs in the east. Unfortunately that means also paying AB a sh* ton of money.

I personally don't believe RJ is key to his plan or vision.

And once it becomes abundantly clear Dre hasn't developed his post game this off-season SVG will push again to trade RJ for a different kind of PG.

RJ & Rubio have very little in common...if RJ was essential then Rubio wouldn't even be considered.

He was, because (I hope) Stan has finally reach that point where he realizes going through Dre ain't gonna fly

The plan is to maintain as much cap flexibility as possible while moving forward while remaining as competitive as we can be while stuck with Gores BFF Dre!

Re-signing KCP on a long-term big $$$ deal to bring back the exact same squad as last year is the definition of treadmill. They're trying to NOT commit to a treadmill this time (FOR ONCE)!!

Stan is too real to ever want to tank. What is the point of intentionally losing? May as well not be in the league is his opinion. I agree with him for the most part, except at the end of the season (last 20 games) when you are obviously out of the running. Those should have been the times to play the young guys and rack up some Ls.

Now his plan is to develop a team of shooters. If Kennard and (less likely) SJ develop, we could have a really really good squad.

Kennard (Ginobli) as our 6th man could be an amazing team if they all played to their potential.

That is the real key. they have had the players, just not the consistent improvements and professionalism through a whole season. We've seen flashes for 10-20 games, where they can beat ANYONE in the league. I genuinly believe lasts year's distaster was more to do with lack of verteran presence in the locker room than Reggie's knee. Had Tolliver and Butler been around to keep the crew together, I think they would have ridden the low points much better and rebounded as we had expected (but never eventuated).

Pistons biggest problem is that they never tank properly. This causes us to always draft 10-15 and Stan is under no pressure from ownership to play a late lotto pick. This leads to us always having holes in our starting 5 because it's so hard for us to acquire veterans. While other teams are making use of their draft picks ours are sitting at the end of the bench.

We need to just start tanking. If we land a top 5 pick SVG will be forced to play him if not insert him into our starting 5. We will lose Bradley for sure, but it's worth it in the long run.

SVG hasn't been bad as he shows he has a good understanding of not dumping assets like 1st rounders for a quick upgrade like most GMs. We are in a better spot then when he took over but Drummond just didn't develop like we hoped here as the motor concerns are a legit thing.

It's not easy to build here as FAs don't want to come and on top of that he started off with a really bad roster and no 1st rounder. He's tried to build a playoff team without dumping future assets but to get that next quality starter it may finally take dumping a 1st as he only has two years left here.

Barring any further roster changes, I think the vision is still to compete for a playoff spot and build a team centered around Andre. We added shooters to space the floor (Kennard, Galloway, Bradley, Tolliver), and got rid of the two starters who played the most minutes and shot the most 3s, KCP and Morris, but could only connect on 35% and 33% of those shots, respectively. Those aren't terrible numbers, but they shot 44% of the team's 3s.

It's a perimeter-driven game, and to have a lineup that resembles the 2009 Magic, we need better shooters. We also need a much better performance from Dre, but it seems SVG is willing to give him more time to improve.

Bottom line, SVG still seems focused on replicating the Dwight Magic teams that he coached. I don't particularly like that direction, but the moves this offseason get him closer to achieving that goal without putting us in the luxury tax.
