Lakers waive Nwaba

Post#1 » by Spanish_Laker » Wed Jul 12, 2017 4:37 pm

EL SEGUNDO – The Los Angeles Lakers have requested waivers on guard David Nwaba, it was announced today.

Nwaba played in 20 games (two starts) for the Lakers, averaging 6.0 points (.580 FG%) and 3.1 rebounds in 19.9 minutes. The Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo product signed the first of two 10-day contracts on February 28, after tallying 14.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks in 39 games (30 starts) with the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Nwaba signed the second of his two 10-day contracts on March 11, before signing with the Lakers for the remainder of the season on March 21.

Cap space move, In order to sign KCP. He'll be back if he clears waivers. Which I'm sure he'll do anyone who wants him outside of us would probably talk to Tony Allen first.

Pretty much a given after the extra million offered to Pope.

It will be like Kendall Marshall 2.0 if he doesn't clear Waivers. Not that it would be the end of the world, but when that happen people were made because he had just been 2nd in the NBA in apg the season before and was cut.

Hope he is back. Always need defenders and he is a good cutter as well
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Maybe to make room for Tony Allen. I wish. Maybe because Hart has a similar skill set and more?

I love his hustle. Maybe we'll see him back.

Hart plays more similarly with Clarkson lol they play ok defense and are good finishers at the rim, can play spot point guard if needed

KCP is a much much much better nwaba. they are good defenders, and are great finishers, they have range but lack a consistent jumpshot. that's problaly why he was waived.

granted, we could resign him as insurance. but i wouldn't be surprised if we dont since kcp is basically an upgrade over the same type of player.

This move was to clear enough cap to sign Bryant. Bryant has a lot more potential than Nwaba, even though both their names rhyme with Kobe's name/nickname

The lakers will pick him up again if he clears waivers.

Good points. And, now it's less impactful to trade Clarkson, with KCP and Hart. Maybe trade JC now, resign Nwaba after he clears waivers?

Yeah he's below league average

Read on Twitter

But he was also playing alongside an utter tit of a PG and his metrics look much better when split between time shared with Ish vs time shared with Jackson.

Do you think Nwaba will want more money now? He might be bold and ask for the full 4mil we have left. He was only supposed to make 1.3mil.

If he clears waivers, it means no other team wanted him at ~1.2 million or w/e # it is, so he will have no leverage to do make a play like that.

Answers my question how they inked KCP to 18 mil per. This is a calculated gamble worth taking.

- signs KCP to the agreed salary
- opportunity to sign Bryant and Rondo
- Nwaba returns with a possibility of a two year deal

Doubt there's a possibility of a 2 year deal for Nwaba. Lakers are saving as much cap space as possible next year.

I thought he had potential; I dunno. Addition by subtraction, if Lakers can pull it off:

-Sign Rondo for 4.3 exception
Rondo replaces Ennis and has some defensive skill left, about as good a shooter as Nwaba.
