If we land Simmons, I'd probably jizz my pants.

Question would be, who's spot does he take if we grabbed him? There would have to be more moves on our part to make that work.

After talks on a new contract stalled, a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns was presented. The deal featured the Spurs getting center Tyson Chandler in exchange for Simmons, but at the last minute, the Spurs backed out of the trade, not wanting to take on the remaining two years and roughly $26 million on Chandler’s deal.

This kinda reminds me of the Chandler Parsons situation years ago. Rights renounced and another team came in with a big offer.
I'm sure his agent started getting calls with offers much higher than the Spurs could give him. His agent probably then told San Antonio, 'it was nice working with you'.

I dunno if he's a fit there but I really could see him in Brooklyn.

That's not quite what happened with Houston. Houston could have kept Parsons 1 more season and allowed him to become a UFA, or let him go into the market early as an RFA. As an RFA (Houston still had his rights), he signed the max deal with Dallas. Houston then chose not to match it.

I also am not totally against a move to bring in Anderson. However the question is what do we get in return or get rid of that we do not want.

I expect that the Knicks would be interested in Bledsoe and our picks.

I think if we offered Bledsoe, Dudley and one of our upcoming picks they might be interested. I like everyone else would like to sub Knight for Bledsoe.

I am not in the dump Bledsoe camp but I do have concerns about his future contract.

I say we offer Knight, Dudley and a pick on a take it or leave it basis. We get Onuaku and Anderson in return.

Ayton or Bamba are likely available next draft when the Suns pick.

I think that is where we are headed. I expect that Len will only be on our roster if he agrees to a one year deal. If he does, I say we ride with him for this year. If he doesn't, Onuaku could be a good option as he is on a 2 year cheap deal. In my deal we get rid of one of our suggested problems, Bledsoe or Knight. Rumors are and have been that the Knicks would like to have Bledsoe. I don't hate Bledsoe like many do but am concerned about signing him to a long term contract. I expect that we are going to do nothing.

If we are able to acquire a quality big in next years draft we will not keep either of them.

The center position is my biggest area of need for our team. We need a big that can defend, rebound and be able to shoot from distance. I do not know if Onuaku can shoot a lick but I really do not know if I can watch another season of Alex Len. I would be just fine with Chandler and Williams. If Alex Len is on the roster, so be it. I hope he does well.

A team backing out of a trade with us at the last minute. Shocker...

Dang! That is interesting. I wonder if we now will offer him a contract then since he is UFA? I'm confused with our interest though. He is rather old (27) and would have to play behind Booker. He also seems like the kind of player who really benefited from Pop/Spurs.

Also, if the Spurs were 'trying' to trade Simmons, does that give off vibes of him not being as good as he looked in the playoffs last year? I feel like all the Spurs' players that get traded away or leave in free agency never pan out with their new team

It depends on what they get in return. They usually sell high, but George Hill has been a similar player after the Spurs traded him.

None of this makes sense

taking on salary for mediocre picks, hopeful young talent....dealing Bledoe to NY.... interest in Simmons...

I dont get it. Does McDo have a fever ? IS he just trying to dump some salary and thus involved as a peripheral team? Or is he actually trying to add legit talent ??

Simmons just doesnt make any sense to me.

So we trade off our starting C (Leaving just 1 under contract;Big Sauce) for another off the bench guard? Like, i cant even.....

My excitement about signing Simmons would depend entirely on the contract. Without offloading Chandler, this would become more dicey.

A few things to consider: (1) We have a ton of salary coming off our books in 2 years. If we manage things correctly and also move Bled, we could have enough cap space for 2 stars as FAs. (2) We really need a top 4 pick in this year's draft. Any of Ayton, Porter, Doncic, and Bamba makes us have a ton of potential all stars. Meaning we should really move Bledsoe imo. A move to positionless basketball with Booker, Jackson, Warren, Bender (I think he is needed for playmaking with that lineup more than Chriss), with any of the top 4 of the draft is intriguing to me. (3) We shouldn't be adding any long-term salary beyond 2 years unless it is a true bargain contract.

How much better is Bledsoe than Reggie Jackson?

I'm seeing these type of posts more and more, and I feel lots of people will be dissapointed come next year (and draft time).

We would need to be in top4 to draft Ayton or Bamba. I have at least 4 reasons why we won't be there:
Chicago
Indiana
Atlanta
Brooklyn
And thats being "optimistic" for you guys. I think there will be another 2-3 teams who will be worse than us (or it will be decided by 1-2 games) between pick 5 and 10. Lakers and Sacramento will be on our level, maybe a bit worse if Bledsoe plays the whole year. New York will likely blow it up so they could be as bad as the above 4 teams in the east. If we make any progress from last year - which should be the case, then we are not getting a top 4-5 pick.
