I disagree 100%. I'd go as far to say as I'd be shocked to see him as a starter for a team who EVER wins a playoff series. He's an empty stats guy and a real long shot to be an impact player in my opinion. I think Dallas will move on from him within a few years.

I could see him carving a niche in an off the bench Lou Williams type role. Otherwise he projects as a Dennis Schroder type thats extremely difficult to win with.

Monk bought a home in Arkansas for his Mom, good for him.

Has to be an amazing feeling to give back to your parent like that. I hope in about 5 years I'll be able to afford to pay for my Dad to go overseas for the first time. He has worked his entire life and has never been able to travel, but always wanted to. I am really, really looking forward to doing that for him.

Harsh critic. I didn't get to see him play much at NC State if at all but I like his game based on highlights and measurables lol.

If he end up being a empty stats guy I'll be sure to give you the credit for your basketball analyzation skills.

This article basically states everything I saw from him in the ~10-12 games I saw early in the season.

I didn't watch the 2nd half of our year because the team was completely unwatchable.

Monk may eventually transition to combo but there's little suggesting it'll necessarily happen -- his availability at #11 reflects that uncertainty.

Regarding DSJ I hated him throughout the season but personal preferences aside the evidence became too overwhelming for a late lottery position. He was 4-7 range in my final ranking.....well technically 4th which surprised even me.

Yeah right. The guy has some of the best NBA draft analysis currently available online.

You can disagree with his final verdict, but not with the underlying process he uses to project NBA potential.

I'd say the sheer number of teams in desperate need of a starting PG combined with a deep PG crop is the reason Monk slid to #11.

He's a top 5-6 level pick in most drafts.

The knicks, mavs, kings, 76ers had such a gaping hole at point guard that they are better served buying a cheap lottery ticket at point guard than they are taking a solid talent at the shooting guard.

I'd wager a substantial sum of money on Monk having a better career than DSJ. But that being said i can't fault their decision to draft for positional need over talent.

It's near impossible to land a point guard in the NBA right now who isn't old, severely flawed, or in that Jeff Teague type no man's land where there is no value in having to significantly overpay for their level of production.

I have faith in Monk's ability to improve his ballhandling ability enough. When you can shoot exceptionally well you need less ballhandling ability to be very effective offensively.

DSJ is a human highlight reel. He leaps off the screen like a Russell Westbrook type talent. He will be overrated his entire career for that athleticism regardless of what level of true success he attains.

If he sucks people will think he's okay. If he's okay people will think he's good. If he's good people will think he's great. And if hes great people will think he's the MVP.

And then the playoffs will come and he will be at home. Or get bounced easily in the first round (like the current league MVP). And people will cry "HIS TEAMMATES SUCK" and point the finger at everyone but him. Just like they did at NC State where this kid got zero results.

I'm confident we drafted Monk with the idea that he will eventually become a lead guard. He has two years to develop before Kemba may decide to leave. We should enjoy these two years because it's anyone's guess what direction this team will take after that.

Cole Zwicker thinks Monk is the best shooting prospect to come out of the draft since Lillard.

It's an in depth analysis, I dare anyone to read it and then come back in here and tell me you're not excited.

All rookie is voted on by media members and is therefore a meaningless designation.

Those same people voted Jamal Crawford 6th man of the year the year before last despite him being horrible.

And all rookie team is based on counting stats not advanced metrics. They don't look at turnovers or defense just points, reb, ast, and fancy dunks.

Most of the voters dont even watch games they are crusty old men who the game has passed by or Rick bonnell types who never knew much about it in the first place.

Hes going to a terrible team where he will get huge minutes. And he's the prototypical empty stats guy.

I'll do you one better. I'll bet you he makes the All Rookie team AND he sucks. Actually, I can virtually guarantee it.

You do realize that inferior point guards to both of these guys have one championships right. It is about the team not the point guards.

Not anymore. You can't compete without one.

The more video of Monk I watch the more I've become convinced that he's the most offensively talented player we've drafted since Baron Davis. He is supremely gifted. His off the ball instincts are something you cannot teach. The pressure he puts on defenses regardless of where he is on the court reminds me of Curry. If he can develop his playmaking skills to take advantage of the immense attention he will draw from defenders we will have an incredibly special player on our hands.

We know he can score with the best of them, but if he can also use this talent to elevate the play of his teammates he will be a star in this league.

Gilbert Arenas 2.0 and that's a compliment.

even a beta version of Gilbert Arenas would be an absolutely massive addition to the roster. By the end of his second year, he would've solidified himself as our #2 scoring option and become the go-to scorer by his 4th year. The potential of a small-ball unit of Kemba/Monk/Batum/MKG/Zeller is absolutely mouth-watering if Monk becomes a 20+ ppg scorer and MKG and Zeller continue to develop like players their age should.
