Celts trading Bradley is odd. They need an elite defender next to IT

They would have to look at giving him a $20 million plus deal after next season, at the same time extending IT2. So huge deals for IT2, Hayward and Horford, then add Bradley on top?

I know I'm in the vast minority , but I'd rather Bradley then Thomas

Same here. They needed to trade one of either Crowder, Bradley, or Smart.

I think the market for Bradley was strongest, and based on the fact that both he and IT need to be extended or let go next year, they chose to keep Thomas. Thomas is an elite scorer, and even though defensively he needs help, the rest of the entire team needed help scoring when Thomas sat.

Crowder seemed like the dude to go, based on the glut of small forwards. But maybe they will be playing Crowder more at pf and move Horford to center more often. That way Brown, Tatum, and Hayward can play small forward, with Tatum and Hayward spending some time at the shooting guard spot. This allows them to follow a bit of the Warriors look by getting bigger at the wing spots.

Thomas
Hayward
Brown
Morris
Horford

With backups of Smart, Tatum, Crowder, and now Baynes give especially them length and size everywhere except with Thomas.

Here's my thoughts on why they did this, but make no mistake that it was an odd trade and they should've pushed harder for a dump of Crowder with a small asset like a second rounder and chosen Avery over IT for the future.

-By all accounts IT meant a ton to Boston, like Big Papi level. They were never going to just let him walk. Which brings up...

-Their absurdly small backcourt. With IT you're looking at a defensive liability at the 1 and an extremely short 2 in Avery with a 6'4" wild card in Smart starting or coming off the bench. The way we got over Steph's initial defensive woes was by pairing him with a tall 2 guard - and Steph's 6'3". In a nutshell, if you're keeping IT you can't roll with IT/Bradley/Smart and be a serious contender. Avery may be great on defense, but I'd argue Smart is a smidge worse and can guard 1-3 and the 4 in a pinch. Avery can guard 1's and 2's while at a height disadvantage at BOTH positions.

-Avery's contract is up end of season and he's going to make the max. IMO this is an Otto Porter situation. You either say '**** it we're being held hostage, pay the man' or '**** it, let's change course while we still can.' That Boston team isn't winning anything with last year's team plus Gordon for the next four years, so why dump Crowder's smaller deal when you know Avery will cost a fortune. Especially when you're taking the long view and not going for a title today.

-They likely have 2/3 of the top picks this upcoming offseason. They probably knew that Avery would walk once they refused to match, and are betting on them being able to either draft a bigger, more versatile replacement or flip assets for something Paul George-like. Honestly, both are incredibly likely.

While I don't love the deal, I do get it and am confident Avery would have walked this offseason. Ainge wasn't playing a short, defense first 2 guard the max.

Yeesh I really do wonder who's going to take that job. Likely someone without prior GM experience, or a proven loser like Billy King.

If some young and up and coming GM takes over for the Knicks and they make the Playoffs, that dude will be the co King of New York.....Because Porzingas would in theory have a lot to do with it as well.

Judge is Supreme leader of New York though. Especially if they win the World Series this year.

Bold Prediction: They hire no GM and Melo informs Dolan that he will both embrace the triangle and finally play the 4 while taking a backseat to Kristaps. Knicks go 74-8, beating the warriors record, and LeBron/Paul George head to the Big Crapple in the offseason.

I have no idea about MLB really, but decided to play fantasy MLB this season for the 1st time in a basic ESPN league. I picked Judge up from the FA's after the 1st week, and I'm kicking ass every week because of him. Dude is nuts. The Warriors should throw him a contract, surely Draymond could teach him to play.

Eh maybe he insists on leaving in free agency to play for the Giants, which I think was his favorite team growing up.

But his numbers would decline in AT&T compared to HR-friendly Yankee Stadium.

All them dudes on the GB praying Klay would want his own team in 2019 and now it's actually Irving that does.

NBA is nuts this offseason! It is interesting that LBJ was blindsided and disappointed when Griffin was let go and now on Kyrie wanting out.
