Re: Welcome Simmons
If Simmons leaves it will probably be for the best...if we **** this up, starting over yet again will probably be the best option anyway.
Wanna keep your stars...then contend...if you can't do that then be prepared to lose folks. I'll be mad butthurt when it happens for sure but it is what it is. God Forbid, if Embiid does go down and is never able to play, then its up to our FO to make sure we keep forward progress despite what is technically a major setback...that's what the best FOs do..they have contingency plans.
But regardless that's 6-8 years away unless Simmons turns down the extension which is super rare (Monroe is the only recent example..and that was also due to Detroit not wanting him back either)...more than enough time to build something worth staying around.

Im really not sure why Im feeling like this, but something just doesnt seem right. Im kind of big on reading into people's body language and facial expressions, and he always looks like he would rather be doing anything else.
"oh, you cant take a couple of bad photos of him and apply that mentality to him thats not fair"
except its not just "a couple of bad photos", literally every time I see this guy he has this smug and too cool for everyone look on his face. the only times he really seems happy is when he's with stars from other teams
idk, just something ive been thinking of. maybe he just has one of those faces lol
nightmare scenario: Embiid cant stay healthy after getting a max, Simmons leave in free agency, Fultz isnt really a first option but we max him anyway, we draft another Jahlil-type with Lakers or Kings pick, and our own picks are in the 20s until it all falls apart
sorry I had to say it
No.

The amount of worrying about worst case scenarios on this board is pretty amazing sometimes. Sports are supposed to be fun guys.

I feel like KD said something to that effect in his MVP acceptance speech in OKC

If Simmons leaves then he leaves. I'm not going to worry about that now. Some Philly fans feel nervous stars will leave. Enjoy Simmons while he is here. Appreciate him while he is here. If he stays then great.

I get the exact opposite feeling. Simmons and Embiid absolutely love it here, wouldn't rather be anywhere else, and not only are they not gonna leave, but they are gonna make Philly a destination.

Simmons has an opportunity to lead a bad team into contention. A perfect scenario to catapult his career to be legendary, if things go well. Hopefully, he will want to retire as a Sixer, when it's all done. Having a chance to start his career with 2 or more promising stars is great for him and the Sixers.

Re: Welcome Simmons
If we want to keep our stars in town, we have to win a CHIP or two. Aside from Stockton and Malone (until his very last year with the Lakers), I can't think of any stars in relatively recent years, who spent their entire careers with one team that didn't win at least one CHIP.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Can't recall the last time a Philadelphia star chose to leave a team while the team was at all good. Those that have left did so either because the team didn't want them anymore, or the team was garbage. Philadelphia isn't Oklahoma City or Salt Lake City.
But by all means spend your time worrying about something that might happen 6 years from now because you don't like the way a guy came off in an Instagram photo.

Simmons needs to do his part. I'm very high on him so I'm expecting greatness. He should be good enough to win a title with another beast in Embiid. If he leaves I don't think it will be the GM's fault on not giving him enough help. I think BC is building the team very well around him.

Re: Welcome Simmons
First that's because almost nobody period stays on the same time for their entire career. Second, pretty much all the stars that left teams to win championships left when they were at least 28 or so (at least until recently). If that's a precedent, it means we have most of a decade with Embiid/Simmons/Fultz, so maybe we can relax on that stuff for now.Embiid P wrote:If we want to keep our stars in town, we have to win a CHIP or two. Also looking at the all-NBA dudes from the 80s and 90s, these guys stayed with the same team through all of their peaks (maybe left in their 30s in career twilight): Drexler, Mullin, Dominique, D Robinson, M Price, Ewing, Reggie Miller, G Payton, etc. Most of the other guys on those teams won chips at some time or other (most of the list is MJ/Pippen, Magic/KAJ, Bird/McHale/Parish, Isiah, Hakeem, etc).

This is like worrying on how are we going to win back to back championship after winning our first one in 2019.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

In sports and in life, just put yourself in best favorable odds then roll the dice.

Simmons has had a too cool for school mentality every step of the way since he's been in the public eye. He's just a little immature. I wouldn't read into it that much.

I wouldn't say Simmons is immature at all. Listen to his interviews. It's very business like. He gives answers he seems to have worked on. His twitter and Instagram isn't crazy. Everything seems programmed. If anything Simmons is more ready to be a pro than just about anyone. He's been groomed for this. LeBron is his guide and he has shown Ben the ropes and expectations. Simmons is a complete 180 from Embiid.

Except for what he says about Ball's shoes... Don't think that was very professional...

Simmons didn't say anything about Ball's shoes. He just liked a comment and on the other he just laughed about what LeBron said. But even if you say he was wrong that's the only thing he's done in a year you can get on him for.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Simmons reminds me of Jeter in how he carries himself. And Embiid's more like Ali, minus the worldwide social impact.
