Isn't Evans the 12th player? Wiltjer, as you mentioned is likely getting waived. We have until August 1st before his contract guarantees. Liggins is guaranteed for $26K until January 10th when it becomes fully guaranteed.

Yeah, realized I was counting Liggins in that mix. Evans is 12.

I was just trying to make sure I wasn't forgetting anyone.

YES! DONE.

Did all the right things. Eerily cool and unhesitant sticking the catch-and-shoot 3--I wonder if that'll hold. But even more important, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 16.4 mpg. The Whole Enchilada.

Preference for Open Roster Spots

Hicks is an impressive athlete but I noticed in workouts that he shuffles his feet on his perimeter shots. Maybe he can get away with that in the NBA but I doubt he'll do so during his rookie year. While I admittedly haven't seen much of him during game action except for the highlights that show off his aforementioned athleticism, I don't think he's worth signing given the limited amount of roster spots we have.

I'm glad we have Jamal Wilson and Jawun Evans secured and signing Sindarius Thornwell should be a forgone conclusion. Personally, I'm more interested in keeping Kendall Marshall than Isaiah Hicks even if we already do have plenty of PGs on the roster and Hicks is the younger player with more upside. I don't think we even have enough room for Marshall.

There will be room at Aqua Caliente for Kendall Marshall, Isaiah Hicks, etc. to work in the Clippers system and be first in line to get a 10-day contract should the need arise.

School's out: Sam Cassell gets his chance to teach Clippers in summer league

“The good thing is we got all these guys on the team to play hard, to play with one another,” Cassell, who coached the summer league team, said in a phone interview. “You’ve got some guys who have different agendas, but me being the head coach, I just wanted these guys to play together, respect each other and play for each other. I think 80%, 90% of the time, that’s what they gave me.”

“When Brice wants to put forth the effort to be a good pro, everything is on Brice,” Cassell said. “This ain’t about me. This ain’t about Doc. This is about Brice. If Brice wants it, he’ll go get it. If he don’t want it, he won’t go get it.”

Hicks and Wilson showed enough to earn a “two-way” contract from the Clippers. The NBA roster expanded from 15 spots to 17 because of the two-way contracts that allow a player to spend up to 45 days on an NBA roster. But Hicks and Wilson are expected to spend most of their time playing for the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, the team’s new Gatorade League club.

[Cassell] was the one in control calling the plays and timeouts. He was the one designing out of bounds plays and encouraging players.

His goal, Cassell admitted, is to one day be the head coach of his own NBA team.

“It wasn’t about me. I think people already know I can coach,” Cassell said. “This summer league is never about the coaching. It’s all about the players. It’s about putting the players in the best possible position to be successful. But I do just want an opportunity. God is going to show me the way. I’ve got full confidence in Him.”

Godspeed, Kendall Marshall

Post#129 » by Ranma » Mon Jul 17, 2017 5:13 am

Fred Katz, Norman Transcript (7/16/17)
No one put an arm around Evans quite like point guard Kendall Marshall, a former lottery pick whom Clippers coach Doc Rivers insists is a future head coach. Marshall won’t make the team now that Evans signed, but that didn’t stop him from teaching.

“I remember my first year in the league, how intimidating it was, how new it was, how different it is,” Marshall told The Transcript. “There’s stuff, no matter how much you prepare, you’re still not going to be prepared just because it’s a completely different lifestyle, a completely different brand of basketball. So, I just try to be in his ear, help him out. He’s a tremendous talent.”

Marshall is attempting to show Evans the pro way.
