Yes, a strong showing by McCaw this year would be a mixed blessing. Obviously the contribution would be appreciated, but it would also raise his value. I believe he will be an RFA, though, so the Warriors CAN match any offer, IF they are willing to pay the resulting Tax Bill. Competition from other teams will be an issue; HOW MUCH of an issue will depend on McCaw's performance AND on what happens to the Salary Cap next year.

Meh I still think anyone that falls under the Gilbert rule is always easy to keep, just cap his earnings at MLE value for the first two years and then if the increase is too much pay someone a first to take him. First rounders are super valued these days even 30 would do.

we're down to one roster spot, yes? So basically they're saving it for Javale and if he doesn't come back they'll just give it to Boucher or some other scrub? There's really no one else left to target.

Boucher is slated to be a "Two-Way" player AFAIK. That means he'll be in the "G-League" but allowed up to 45 days "up" with the GSW during the year. He's rail-thin (200 lbs. vs. 240 for KD at roughly the same height and 250 for Javale, both of whom are slender by NBA front-court standards) and re-habbing an ACL, but he's also 6' 10" with a 7' 4" wingspan and a very decent 3-point shot. If he rehabs successfully, he could be an interesting addition to the roster. But unless he puts on significant weight, it's tough to see him as a low-post guy or a true defensive Center. But at least for now, I don't think he is under consideration for a roster slot.

This site has KD at 240, McGee at 270: basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2017.html

Straight Google Search for [ Javale McGee Weight ] comes up with 251 lbs in the top entry . . . same search gives 240 again for KD.

I think that if healthy, Boucher might be able to give us some minutes as a small ball Center. Of course, a little extra weight would help.

I agree, sort of. For a small-ball line-up, I think that on offense, Boucher's perimeter game makes him more of a SF, despite his height, rather than a C or PF. We could set up with him in the low-post, forcing the opponents to put a tall player on him, then slide him out to the perimeter, or vice-versa, from the perimeter inside if a smaller player matches up. Same kind of conundrum that Durant presents, although obviously nowhere near that level, certainly not yet.

On defense in a "small" line-up, he seems more suited to match up on a SF or maybe PF, with Draymond playing the 5 on D.

Against Boston, an interesting line-up would be Durant, Casspi, Boucher, Young & Thompson. Who does Isaiah Thomas guard? The shortest players on the floor are 6' 7", so they have 8 inches on him, and they can all hit from three range. They're going to have close to a foot on him in reach, so how does he contest a three-pointer?

I'd say put Livingston on Isaiah, post him up and when they double-team, have Livingston pass out. We have so many options with this squad, it's ridiculous. With Boucher, I think we could play him at 4 or 5 with help coming if they try and post up. He's like Durant in the sense that he can really get up and block shots, but you make a valid point, play him at the 3 (similar to when Durant first came into the league as a skinny 200 pounder). Kid's definitely got potential. It'll be interesting to see if Kerr tries to fit him in somehow. How about Bell (5), Looney (4 if he's still with us, Boucher (3) and McCaw (1 or 2) for our future, lol.

I think the biggest issue with Boucher is seeing if he can make a full recovery from his injury. If he does, he is too intriguing a possibility to ignore, so I imagine he'll get some reps with the Dubs if he's deemed fit. If he can bulk up a bit, that will also lend a bit more confidence regarding his perceived fragility.

Step 1 is making a full recovery..... but lots of folks in this thread are already assuming that Boucher is skilled and disciplined enough to hang with one of the greatest collections of talent the NBA has ever seen on the court together. I'd like that to be true, but it seems like a pretty big leap at this point.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

So now it appears Bogut may get a min contract offer from the Celtics.

I guess neither the Warriors nor Bogut have any interest in exploring him coming back on a min deal. Too many hard feelings.

I liked Bogut's game, including his fit with the Warriors. But he's going on 33 years old, and he has averaged only 56 games per season for his career. He hasn't played more than 70 games in a season since 2007, and he's had 4 seasons of less than 40 games. If we could put him in Looney's slot at the veteran minimum, it would be a steal. But even if it was possible, I'm not sure I'd want him in place of anyone who gets actual minutes. As evidenced by Zaza, West, and McGee playing less than 40 MPG COMBINED last year, we don't need a lot of MPG from any one Center. But we DO need our key guys to be there in the Playoffs, so I tend to value durability (GPY) over MPG.

Just signed Trevor Thompson....looks like a legit young talented 7'. I don't get how the Warriors are able to stock pile these bigs???

And...bye bye Looney and probably Jones.

Thompson came out as a sophomore, and surprised a lot of people when he did, including I guess the 30 NBA teams that did not draft him. It may be more an issue of current readiness than one of ultimate potential, though, in which case -- another nice move by the Dubs, who don't need contributions from him for at least a couple of years. Conventional wisdom has him playing 2017-18 in the G-League at Santa Cruz, possibly as the Dubs second TWC. With 19 on the Training Camp Roster, obviously at least 4 guys will be in Santa Cruz or looking elsewhere for a spot.

I can see a little of this in the Dubs' game:

This is labeled: "Junior Season Reel," but I thought he exited as a sophomore. Looks pretty good:

Here's a whole game with TT at Center vs. Minnesota. He gets beat -- and one -- on the first possession, but then comes right back and scores the first two buckets for OSU. Couple of nice defensive plays later in the 1st Q, that's as far as I watched:
