I wouldn't expect any trades anytime soon... Vogel convinced him on the roster.

I actually like what he said and agree with him. Give this team one more chance to gel and stop killing chemistry. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all.

I'm pretty much convinced at this point that Vogel made a compelling case to Weltman/Hammond to run it back with the same starters from last year + an upgraded bench.

That's a great sell and justification of the offseason. Just helps to explain the wait and see approach, and give the fans some idea of expectations for the season.

This is all I've wanted to see from the new FO since their offseason started taking shape.

"Trust me....... I GOTS THIS"

I have a feeling that all the Debbie downers and even the positive pollie's might be surprised what a year can make! Here's hoping!

This is a really good listen. I like Weltman. I enjoyed their discussion around the 2003 draft and today's GM'ing vs. back-in-the-day.

"When the team doesn't win, it suppresses the value of the player."

Id guess that's another reason why we haven't made any trades.

Seemed like he was contradicting WOJ a lot, and the mock humility is really grating.

Yep, I posted that I thought this was the case a few days ago.

Haven't had chance to listen yet but an overall comment I'd make is that I think Weltman / Hammond are right to adopt the more modern media-friendly approach to running a front office. That doesn't mean that news leaks, more that you use a variety of media (print, radio, online, podcasts, etc) to relay your thought processes to both fans and the wider basketball world. This podcast follows numerous radio appearances by Hammond plus speaking to journalists during summer league which is something Rob Hennigan and compadres rarely did.

We've seen a move towards this approach in recent years and I think Rob suffered from the fact that he didn't use the media in this way. The public only really heard from him during the off-season and in the mid-season interview he did with Josh Robbins (unless there was a trade of course). Sam Hinkie is another whose limited media use contributed to his downfall (his decision to do a podcast with Woj late in his tenure when everyone knew he was on the way out seemed more like a justification of his approach more than anything).

Listened to most of it, thought it was a pretty boring interview tbh. But, it's the off season. Better than nothing.

As a Raps fan it has been interesting to watch Weltman. He always seemed like the brainiac who was the sobre second voice on transactions. I got the sense they followed his desire to stock youth but that he was frustrated that their coach would play them so sparingly.

His moves so far for Orlando kind of have the Raptor mark which always appear slightly underwhelming. Isaac vs DSJ. Pasecniks vs. Kuzma, Shelvin Mack who is a sort of Marcus Banks of point guards and then the opportunity knocks signing of Simmons.

The metrics on all these players must have tipped the scales in their favour. Pacecniks performed well in workouts. Do not really know about Isaac but passing on DSJ is in my mind is absolutely batsht crazy. Mack and Simmons are a big whatever.

He is right though on paper Orlando is a good roster probably deserving of some patience but in my mind the point guard situation is a gaping hole easily remedied with DSJ but nope they are going to give non-shooting Peyton a chance to be a late bloomer.

The good news is he will see that players have the very best shot to develop. No quick fixes.

Really surprised how Biz has struggled. Must be a system thing. TRoss is one of the most frustrating players to have to endure. On fire one day looking like a sure fire starter and then completely underwhelming scrub the next. His escapades with the bald vamp made him look like a kid in a bizarro candy shop. Very much child-man vs man-child. He has subsequently grown up a ton with his kid out of wedlock. Biz should be worth every penny and cannot understand his shortcomings at all except for the being overpaid part.

Vogel never liked the makeup of last year's roster and you can sense his frustration at times throughout the season.

Before the Ibaka for Ross deal and Gordon move to power forward, last year was a lost season and malpractice with Gordon at small forward.

When the trade was made, this team was much more fun to watch.

I think Vogel wants a full season with slight tune ups to the second half roster.

He has struggled for 6 years and for 3 teams now. Is it the system or possibly the player? He had one good playoff series. Other than that, he has been average to below average for 6 regular season years.

Look at his offensive and defensive ratings the 3 years prior to coming here.

I know you have a thing for Vuc, but Biz isn't a below average payer.
