Your starting lineup
Now that we're entering the dog-days of the off-season, this board is getting kind of stale.
The starting lineup always brings heated debate.
I could see adding another big and possibly cutting Garino, but this roster is pretty much set.
My SL looks like this;
Pg. EP
Sg. Fournier
Sf. Simmons
Pf. Gordon
C. Vuc
2nd unit;
Pg. Mack
Sg. Ross
Sf. Mario
Pf. Isaac
C. Biz
Reserves;
Dj
George-Hunt
Garino/???
Iwundo
Khem

Re: Your starting lineup
I think your starting lineup is right.
You forgot about Hezonja. I also don't think Georges-Hunt will play. I think the 2nd unit will be:
PG: Mack or Augustine
SG: Ross
SF: Isaac/Ross
PF: Isaac
C: Biyombo
It's possible to have Hezonja as the backup 2 or 3, but for some reason, I don't think he'll play much and that will probably be the thing Vogel gets criticized for most this year by most on this board.

Isaac is the best small forward on the team day 1, even if his ideal position is eventually power forward. He is the only player on roster other than ag who can guard the gauntlet of NBA small forwards on a nightly basis.

While it may be true that Isaac is the best SF from day one, it's very doubtful that Vogel will see it that way. He's most likely going to come along slowly as much as we all hate it. That's been the most frustrating part about this team since Dwight left, not seeing our lottery picks get thrown into the fire from Day 1.

Going with more 3pt shooting and spacing since we desperately need it.

I wouldn't be opposed to Isaac at the 3, but then who would be AG's relief?

*The Magic probably brings one more big here on the cheap.
Hezonja and Augustine fill out the rest unless a trade happens
This SL makes the most sense. Issac gets the trial by fire treatment, to see what we've got with him. He'll be allowed to screw up. Simmons didn't sign here to be a bench guy. He could have done that with the Spurs. This allows for a very capable bench with Fournier as sixth man bring flanked by two solid players in Ross and Mack.

Elf/Mack
Ross/Fournier
Simmons/Hezonja
AG/Isaac
Vuc/Biz
Spacing will be tough if the AG, Vuc, and Simmons don't improve on last years 3 point shooting percentages. Don't have faith that Elf will improve his shooting much, I just want him to be aggressive on defense and offense, needs to live in the paint, scoring and kicking it out to shooters. This starting 5 in general needs to gets stops and push the ball up the floor.
I like Fournier's scoring off the bench, he can be a canidate to win smith man of the year.
I'd like to see Isaac play the 4 most of his minutes than split 8 minutes a game playing the 3 and 5. I believe he will be a special "new age" center in the short future, but we should play him at the 3,4, and 5 this year and see what fits him best.

Re: Your starting lineup
The way I think of starting units vs bench units:
Starting unit = > 3 starters
Bench unit = < 3 starters
I have our top 3 players as Payton, Gordon, and Vucevic, so my best starting units will be built around them, and my best bench units around 2/3 of them
SL 1: Payton|Fournier|Ross|AG|Vucevic
SL 2: Payton|Simmons|Ross|AG|Vucevic
SL 3: Payton|Simmons|Isaac|AG|Vucevic
SL 4: Payton|Simmons|Ross|AG|Biyambo
SL 5: Payton|Fournier|Ross|Isaac|Biyambo
SL 6: Mack|Fournier|Ross|Isaac|Vucevic
BL 1: Payton|Simmons|Isaac|AG|Biyambo
BL 2: Payton|Simmons|Hezonja|Isaac|Vucevic
BL 3: Mack|Simmons|Isaac|AG|Vucevic
etc, etc, etc

We actually have good competition at the 2/3 spot this year. I think the only guaranteed starter of those 3 is Fournier due to the facts that he's been here longer than the other two and he can be the best shooter/scorer of the 3.

Re: Your starting lineup
I think we could see the same starting five as we had backend of the season, with the new guys joining Hezonja and Biyombo in the second unit. I could see Simmons swapping places with Ross, perhaps even bringing in Isaac to start, move Ross and Simmons to the SG/SF rotation and experiment with Hezona at PF. There's certainly options, but currently my prediction for Vogel's first and second units would be:
Payton / Mack
Fournier / Hezonja
Ross / Simmons
Gordon / Isaac
Vucevic / Biyombo
I personally would go for:
Payton / Mack
Fournier / Ross
Isaac / Simmons
Gordon / Hezonja
Vucevic / Biyombo
I'd throw Isaac in day one and see what he's got, I can understand the patient approach but we need to see what the kid can do. Alternatively put Simmons in and see if he can get close to those per 36 minute stats of his and improve his scoring and shooting. I'd utilise Ross as sixth man, then give Isaac or Simmons a fair amount of minutes off the bench.

Re: Your starting lineup
Fournier seemed to play better at the 3 two years ago in Skiles system. I wonder if he would be considered at the 3 or if Ross will play the 3. I doubt Isaac starts at the 3 this season.

This is exactly where I'm at.
Payton and Gordon are definitely going to start at PG and PF. Unless they both make significant gains as perimeter shooters, then I think you have to start Fournier and Ross for spacing purposes. Giving Vucevic the nod over Biyombo as the starting center only because I think he'd be a malcontent about coming off the bench.
The Payton-Fournier-Ross-Gordon-Vucevic starting lineup played well last year and I'm willing to go with that group again to find out if it was just a late season fluke or if it's truly something sustainable.
I'd let Simmons have free reign on the 2nd unit. He's my go-to guy off the bench. I'd let him have a high usage and see if he can re-create some of the magic (no pun intended) that he showed during this year's playoffs. Mack-Simmons-Hezonja-Isaac-Biyombo should be a solid group defensively.

Issac is not ready to start. His body needs time to get used to NBA beating and banging 3 or 4 games a week. If he is as good as we think he is eventually he will earn his way to the starting lineup.
