Who will hit the three concistantly?

Post#1 » by graymule » Mon Jul 17, 2017 12:49 pm

We all should, by now, realize that the NBA has changed from the old NBA of years ago.

Center dominated, power scoring was the norm. Inside was the place to be with the
fade away jump shot the other option.

In today's NBA, if a team can't score consistently from down town, forget it. We still
see the center being important and the jump shot as necessary. Fans really dig the
slam dunk and it gets the blood flowing! But, if a team can't hit the three ball with
the rest of their game, they can't succeed in today's NBA.

We can all recall, a few years ago in the playoffs, when the Cavs hit something like
eleven straight three's against the Hawks.. If Atlanta scored every time the Cavs
did, which we didn't, we were hitting two's. This means they were gaining 11 points
on us right there.

Considering all this, Who do we have on our current roster, that can score from behind
the three point arch? And, not just in the low % rate that former Hawk J Smoove did.

Our own WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream, have one of the lowest three point shooting
in the league and they continue to lose close games. Without having players who can
score from down town, this year's Hawk team faces the same fate.

So I ask again, can we do it? Can we consistently score from down town?

I agree, Dunleavy Jr was the only good 3 point shooter on the team, but now he has been waived. We have a lot of spots open on the roster, I think Schlenk will bring some shooters in.

Hawks biggest Hole on the roster:

Perimeter Shooting

The Atlanta Hawks weren't a good shooting team last season, sitting just 20th in three-point makes (8.9 per game) and 23rd in accuracy (34.1 percent). But even those numbers could be difficult to replicate, as this offseason has exacerbated the issue.

Their top performer by percentage was waived (Mike Dunleavy). Their volume leader left as a restricted free agent (Tim Hardaway Jr.). Their most prominent newcomer misfired on the only three-point attempt he launched over two collegiate seasons (John Collins). Their most expensive signee has the same 0-of-1 career line, only his spans four NBA campaigns (Dewayne Dedmon).

Outside of situational snipers Mike Muscala and Marco Belinelli, this entire roster grades out as average or worse from the perimeter. This offense will have difficulty breathing if this void isn't addressed before training camp opens.
Bleacher Report

I'm assuming this was written before Ilyasova was re-signed.

But the point is still valid. We need more shooting to improve spacing and provide driving lanes for Dennis.

Our two best 3-pt shooters each play PF. That's a twist.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
