If Embiid stays healthy this year I don't think it's a stretch to say with the additions of 2 creators in Simmons and Fultz increasing his already stellar scoring efficiency, Embiid can easily make the jump to a top 10 player.

Last year he was one of the best defenders in the NBA and offensively his competition, historically, was Wilt f'n Chamberlain. He was already among the best players in the league when on the floor. I feel like this is the year he is fully healthy and w/ a very good team behind him he is going to make a seismic leap. All Nba kind of leap.

Yep...he already played at an All NBA level last season and was still raw. Literally only a matter of health and sustaining it.

Thought experiment with Embiid:

Would it be worth it to max out Joel Embiid if you knew that every season, he would play no more than 40 games, but he would always be fully healthy for the playoffs?

In this scenario, I think it would ultimately cap the future Sixers out as a 2nd or 3rd seed in the conference. However, it would still give the team serious title contention ability come playoff time. It would definitely hurt, but I think Embiid might be so good that it is still worth it to pay him for 40 games a year + playoffs. What are your opinions though?

The Sixers are done tanking, why would you sit a healthy Embiid. Also, you can have time restrictions like the Spurs did with Tim Duncan without disrupting chemistry. Hopefully, Embiid works with the team and takes a contract that benefits both, like Durant just did.

embiid changes the game. has every offensive tool in the book, elite shooter, post up, can face up, defensively he covers half of an entire half court. everything starts with him. he's gonna make life easier for every player on our roster. he's megatron

This isn't about sitting him, it's more of looking at a (realistic) future in which Embiid can never physically play more than 40 games a season. I think he would almost still be worth maxing (or close to it) for his sheer dominance in those games and playoffs.

I started a thread on how much he should play a month or two ago. I think it's wrong to hold Embiid to the 82 game standard. Just because the NBA declares the season that long doesn't mean he needs to play that many games to be worth a rich contract extension. Everybody will benefit if we all can agree that his body and playing style simply isn't conducive to the rigors of playing a lot of games in short time frames. I'd prefer to keep him somewhere in the 60-65 game range.

On a related note, any info on if he has learned to land better?

he's not jumping as high and it seems he's more cautious and mindful when he goes in for layups/dunks

Without a doubt. We're still easily a playoff team and with him playing there will be the chance for a title.
