This is just MY speculation But I think if the Knicks gave the Celtics Lee and a 1st we could get Jaylen & Smart.

I can see them doing this is we add KP to the deal or make that pick unprotected. Other than that, no way Celtics are trading a younger for an older player who is playing the same position and who is considerably worse than the said younger player.

It does make sense. Lol. Doesnt mean it'll happen but people need to realize the type of competition the Celtics are facing next season. They need to even out their roster.

Idk why everyone assumes Crowder would be moved the second I said that, yall know Jaylen Brown makes like a million less than Crowder?? The trade works with Jaylen and Smart - Knicks throw in a pick of some kind and we get 2 top 10 picks, they fill their void. Crowder's contract is too good..

This isn't the most awful trade in the world for the Celts. I get everyone gets on Ainges hype train for his players, but are Smart and Crowder THAT good? Don't get me wrong; they are decent players. They play defense. Then again, the ENTIRE Boston team plays defense. Now, part of that is that they went after guys who want to play it, so I get that this attribute is within Crowder and Smart. On the other hand, for a few years now, Boston has had all sorts of depth at SG/SF, so if WANT to get playing time, and Stevens demands defense, then you are going to play some, and play hard, just to get off the bench at all.

I mean, Marcus Smart, overdrafted at 6th, doesn't mean he's a high first round value. Plays D. Is obnoxious as f*ck. Can't shoot for sh*t, as his, so far, career 35% shooting % shows. Oh, but he must be some big assist man the. 4.5 apg in 30 mpg last year. Gets to the line all of 3 attempts a game. This is last year under contract, so, either that is attractive to the C's as expiring, or they want to get something for him now while they can. Maybe the like Terry Rozier better (another 1st round pick)

Crowder we know can play D, but the Celts have like 3 SF's ahead of him on the depth chart:Haywood, Tatum and Brown. I get that Haywood and Brown can see time at SG. And? That's still 3 guys for 96 minutes. He's a good 3&D, who just got good at shooting 3's this year. He was average last year. He wasn't good at it before then.

KOQ makes sense for Boston because they have Horford, then Zeller and Ante Zizic (hey, another 1st round pick). Until Zizic shows he can play, KOQ is insurance at back up C, and his deal isn't long.

Other than Ainge no doubt thinks these guys sh*t gold, it actually isn't too far off base on deal. CLee rationalizes backup SG, they clear a SF who is out of the rotation, and the question mark is what they think of Smart vs Rozier.

Crowder averaged 14 points a game last year on 61% true shooting while being a above average wing defender. Crowder is ver y valuable especially when you consider his contract size. I mean lets face it. Hardaway got 71 million while being less efficient and worse defensively. (And I was ok with the Hardaway signing just trying to prove the point on Crowder.) Like I said in the other thread having him himself is better than having both Lee and O'Quinn.

Sometimes you have to move a piece that is a little better than the piece you get back.

Who is the C's backup SG?
Who is the C's backup C?

I get the C's could, I guess, roll with some combination of Isiah Thomas, Smart, Haywood and Brown at PG, SG - meaning Isiah can see a bit of time at SG and maybe Brown. Brown seems to lack enough of an outside shot at SG right now though. I'm acknowledging they aren't screwed, but they seem a SG short. Meanwhile they have Tatum (true SF) Brown (SF with a bit of SG), and even Haywood I thought was more of a SF then SG, but I'm assuming they'll play him at SG as starter. So Brown is the 3rd string SF below Crowder?

Back up C's are Zeller and Zizic? Good luck with that. Zizic may surprise as WHG did, but I notice the Knicks didn't hand the keys to WHG to start the season and I doubt the C's do that for Zizic either.

I have to agree. The piece you trade may be better individually but the pieces you get back are better for your team overall. At the end of the day its all about improving your team, especially if you have aspirations for a title and you just went big in free agency.

People see Smart and his stupid haircut stick his chest out and act foolish on top of playing good defense and suddenly think he's awesome. He's like a talented version of Plumless at PG.

Nope. He is considerably worse than Jaylen Brown in almost every aspect of the game. Celtics wouldn't do it because they are not run by Isiah Thomas. This is like moving Ariza for a washed up Francis but if Ariza was a better player.

Screw the Celtics talk. It isn't happening. Let's get back to Melo.

It would be amazing if they could acquire Swanigan from Portland for Melo in a package.

Melo trade is like 3 weeks away I believe. They clearly slow this down. I think lee could be moved first.

Lee isn't washed up. He is coming off a career season... The Celtics have a NEED at SG. They are HEAVY at SF. Sometimes, when you are in win-now mode, you have to trade a piece you otherwise would have kept in the exact same trade scenario 2 years ago because you need to win NOW. That is why they take a 1st rounder and a better piece for winning within the next 2 years and they trade away their SECOND BEST young SF. That's at least how I feel. Not that I think this particular trade is going to happen  Ainge most likely ain't trading Jaylen

I get Crowder is a good 3&D player. I get that. Let's not act like he's one of the only ones in the league. I think Knick fans are so starved for seeing a team that actually gets after it on D (due in large part to the coaching) and they see Crowder and Smart and nearly sh*t their pants in shock and awe. Crowder is a hustle 2nd round pick who worked hard and panned out. Smart is an overdrafted PG who honestly was a bit of a mistake by Ainge. I get these guys would play good defense anywhere.

Let's not assume because CLee is a Knick, or has been traded a lot, he's junk. He tends to move around but to good teams. Teams recognize he's a do it all guard who fits any system you want to run and will run it right, with good defense. He makes 12 million a year, which is now cheap and was a decent contract the moment it was signed. KOQ is a proven, serviceable C who rebounds, isn't a stiff scoring wise and can pass above average. He's also cheap as hell and only on a teams cap, for what, 2 more years?

Yeah, Knicks get the better of this deal, but not by a mile. Ok, I'll got with CLee and KOQ for Crowder and whatever is needed to get to make the salaries match.

Boston needs to get a SG. Maybe it's not Lee, but it will be somewhere. I bet Crowder or Smart get dealt. I mean, the Celts would still be 2.5 deep at SF with all sorts of #1 picks coming up, so it's not like they make this deal but are handcuffed from more deals next year, or that Crowder and Smart are the missing pieces that could have gotten them Anthony Davis.

Are there any actual Melo quotes saying that he absolutely does not want to be in NYK and longer? If not then he still has slither of "face-saved" left when he's a Knick on opening tip of the season. He'll acquiesce to a reduced role...and he'll like it. :D

from Sam Amico

The Rockets are expected to make another major push for New York star Carmelo Anthony, despite the recent pause in talks. Anthony reportedly is making it clear he does not want to remain with the Knicks and he does not want to add anyone to his wish listbeyond the Rockets and Cleveland. Morey, it has been said, still believes the Rockets are the frontrunners.

pay up...hopefully Harden and CP3 are pushing morey to make this happen with pressure from Melo's camp.

Melo's recent videos look like a lot of small ball pick and roll shooting which makes me believes he is preparing for MDA system.
