It's a pipe dream that he's going to improve his defense and rebounding to acceptable levels, but even if the miraculous happens and he does, it's not simply a matter of scoring 20 points a game. To date, Okafor has not been able to make his teammates better on offense. I don't care if he scores 30 points a game if the offense is cratering around him. I'd rather a guy that barely scores any points but is part of a dominant offensive machine.

I agree that iso ball or post bigs are frowned upon, but if Simmons needs players that can finish and Okafor is one of the best. Why would the offense suddenly crater?

Because Okafor isn't one of the best at 'finishing.' He's poor out of the pick and roll, he doesn't set good screens to free up driving lanes or create open shots. He has no range on his shot so he can't pick and pop. He's a below the rim player so he's not going to catch and finish a lot of lobs.

By no barometer is Okafor a great finisher outside of being above average in isolation post scoring.

You should look at some of his highlights, if he is not doubled he is almost unstoppable. Also, he has good range on his shot, before he got hurt and lost focus for several reasons, he was playing well for a rookie. Absolutely, he has flaws and he is working on fixing them, but he would be a backup to Embiid. Defenders are going to get in foul trouble trying to stop Embiid. Now you put in Okafor, most teams don't have enough bigs to handle them.

Holmes is pretty clearly better at finishing off of passes than Okafor is.

Just 42% of Okafor's field goals are assisted. He wouldn't finish created looks from Simmons. He would hold the ball, put it on the floor, and do a spin move and then take an unassisted field goal attempt.

Good points. I like Holmes and Bolden, but I don't see them as starting centers, if Embiid misses time. Anyway, Okafor had to create his own shots, because the offense was bad, maybe Okafor's fault, but the guards did not give good entry passes. With Simmons, Okafor should be able to get better entry passes and looks. Probably, It's Simmon' s best skill. They could be a great duo, when Embiid is resting.

Okafor isn't a starting center either. He's a backup. If Embiid went down I would rather have Holmes start. He's more active on defense and at least can alter more shots. He is also more in the flow on offense and doesn't stop the ball. Okafor is great at creating offense for him not for the team.

I agree Holmes could be a good backup 4 + 5, but he would get punished by the bigger centers. I understand Okafor is taking a roster spot, but he has potential. Everyone wants to judge him on the last 2 year's, when the Sixers were bad. Give him a chance, he may improve.

Remember that amazing time last season when the Sixers were actually very good? People will say January but it actually began December 30th when we beat the Nuggets.

Two things changed that game. TJ McConnell was moved to the starting lineup, and Okafor was benched.

He wasn't bad because the team was bad. It's more likely that he was one of the causes that the Sixers were bad. Our wins cratering during his rookie season is more evidence that people refused to believe at the time.

It's amazing how TJ continues to get better, he looked bad but with good coaching he improved. Similarly, Okafor will get better with good coaching. See what I did there.

TJ has far fewer weaknesses than Okafor and has never been as bad in the NBA as Okafor has been. Okafor has legitimately been one of the worst players in the NBA over the last two years.

TJ is a pest, pure energy. He used to slow the ball movement, but now makes quicker decisions.

I want Okafor traded before the season begins so Brown won't feel pressured to give minutes to our "talented" former #3 pick. Okafor should get 0 minutes between Embiid, Holmes, and Johnson.
