How good is Miami?

Post#1 » by Froob » Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:36 pm

Started 10-31, finished 31-10 (62 win pace) and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker to Chicago. Big bounce back year for Dragic, Waiters, and James Johnson and Whiteside was great as always. Spo seemed to shut up all the haters (including me) last season. Guess he was a great coach all along.

Is there anything overrated or unsustainable about last year's second half surge or is Miami actually a second tier team in the East in the cluster with Boston, Washington and Toronto?

I would have chosen 40-50 games probably.

I think they will grab one of the last playoff spots in the East. Olynyk might be a decent fit there and Bam Adebayo looks like a good pick.

No worries dude. I think they will be between 7th and 9th in the East personally.

I think they can be 2nd tier after figuring out how to win with that group, now they've brought that back + Olynk/Bam, they're a 40-50 win team for sure imo, could surprise and get HCA.

40-50, I'm guessing more specifically 45-47Ws.

Full disclaimer: I'm a Heat fan

That said, I think low 50's is where we end up. Our team was DEVISTATED by injuries last year, particularly the first half of the season. We had more games missed by players last year than any other team. Statistically, that won't repeat again. Once we got semi-healthy, we went on a tear. I think in the back half before Waiters got hurt, we had the best record in the league over that stretch (I think it was like 23-5 or something like that?).

And in addition to bringing back pretty much everyone... we're adding Adebayo, Olynyk, and Winslow (everyone forgets that he pretty much missed all of last year... which will be a big addition for us!).

I think they can cause nightmare matchups for Bost, Clev and GS....Whiteside is a legit center w athletic ability, Dragic can attack Kyrie, IT and Curry on the offensive end and their bench is very good and play Def...this team is no joke and I think they make a run in the playoffs

Honestly their roster is absolutely terrible with little to no up side.

Having said that this group had amazing chemistry last year and the results showed it. There's not much in way of future development to get excited about but they could have a pretty good season.

Oh my....this cant be serious....Whiteside has hit his ceiling? Waiters cant improve his 43% FG, Olynyk will get more PT to make an impact, Bam is a rookie who had a nice SL and will play either the 4 or the 5 off the bench and Winslow was a lottery pick w a feel for the game...thats a few guys who can improve

What's "unsustainable" is that half their games were against teams whose mindset going in was "we're getting a night off BC playing the worst team in the league".

While I don't think they were as bad as 10-31, the idea they were a 62 win in the 2nd half team is equally as dubious.

I think it would be surprising if they missed the playoffs again. They're likely a first round exit team.

Pretty good. I'd say around 50 wins.

I want to see your top 8 in the East if you don't mind.

Pretty hard to see them not in.

Locks:
Boston
Cleveland
Toronto
Washington
Milwaukee

Detroit and Charlotte could bounce back and grab 2 spots. Atlanta, Chicago, Indiana, Orlando, and Brooklyn will suck. Philly and New York have a chance, but can't see all that going down and Miami not making it. Miami outta be a near lock.

I thought they had a flukey run. I don't expect them to make the playoffs again this upcoming season either if Waiters is a big piece of their offense... then again, the east is pretty weak so anything is possible.

30 -40. People saying otherwise are counting on their 2nd half run when Dion looked like a good starter in 24 games and shot 44% from 3 on good volume.

Given the options I'd lean 40-50. Could see them in the mid-to-high 30s though.

I have it as Celtics, Cavs, Raptors, Wizards, Hornets, Bucks, Heat and 76ers/Pistons in that order.

Mis-clicked 30-40 but I have them penciled in for 40-50 wins. I too have them in the bottom tier though in regards to making the playoffs I have them ahead of the 76ers and Pistons but don't see them doing better than the Hornets/Bucks.
