Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
Would've traded anything for Drummond after his 2nd year but he never really improved from that point on. 26m a year for a late-game liability at times? Pass.
This draft is loaded and Len is only 24. I'd like him back for a "show me" season...

I'd even do something a little more than we gave Alan. Big men like him bloom late, I'd ABSOLUTELY HATE to have him kill it for another team if we give up on him too early. I think with what we have now for cap space, he's worth the risk.

Yeah, we should absolutely bring him back for a 2-3 year small contract with perhaps a team option in the last year. They may be waiting to see what Noel gets. I wonder if they are even negotiating at all. I imagine they plan on signing him since they didn't rescind the QO.

I think it would be fine with a 3 or 4 year contract for Len that averages 7 million a year tops.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I'm as guilty as the next guy at using the "big men bloom late" as a reason for Len's struggles. But honestly when they do they usually only go from bad to o.k. They don't usually go from o.k. to great. You can probably count on one hand the number of players that have. If your argument is we just need an o.k. C in the modern NBA then I probably support that but I'd counter that Williams is an o.k. C already. I just wonder if we can get rim protection for cheaper elsewhere. I don't know.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
Driving home listening to Gambo & Burns - they had Kevin Pelton on. Gambo again reiterated not a market for Knight unless a draft pick was attached basically.
But when Len was brought up - Pelton mentioned that Len being a RFA - any offer sheet would to be three years. I didn't know that. So if I were the Suns - instead of the QO of 4.5 - what about 2 years plus TEAM option for like 15m, with a 1m buyout, so 16m guaranteed or if the option is picked up. $10m. Len gets a little more jack; Suns get two more years to see if Len improves; at worst, costs them 1m buyout or Len becomes a trade chip because with only $1m guaranteed - would be a good contract to take on in February for a team looking to cut cap knowing that summer - is off the books.
If they decline the option, Suns are "clean in 2019" still

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I'm not buying "there's no market for Knight" esp given the ridiculous contracts that have been handed out last year and this year -- making Knight's deal look ridiculously decent. But, given the circumstances and how Knight shot himself in the leg w/ his poor on-court play, there's nothing you can do about it except:
1. Give him playing time this year to increase value by trade deadline
2. Send him home (but still pay him)
3. Sit down and figure out a buyout
#1 is really your only realistic option given the constant "there's no market for Knight, he sucks" talk. Honestly, he's your backup shooting guard at this point.....Roll w/ it and if he complains so what, send him home to play video games I guess.
Bled & Ulis/James
Book & Knight/Reed
TJ & Jackson/DJJ
Chriss & Bend/Duds
Tyson & Williams/Len

I'd rather sacrifice a draft pick than watch Knight play in Suns uni.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I'm fine with allowing Knight to rebuild his value some before the deadline if it means we hang on to our first round picks. Plus who else will be our tank commander?

Would the Pacers do something like this?
Bledsoe, Chriss, Miami '18 pick for Myles Turner and Thad Young.

Probably, but the Suns wouldn't. Turner has shown promise but too many are ready to overlook some pretty obvious flaws. This trade has his value being too high, IMO.

I think we need to give chriss the benefit of the doubt here before we just go tossing him around as a throw in every trade.

Agreed - trading Chriss doesn't make sense unless its for Porzingis. You know like a Bledsoe, Chriss and Heat pick for KPo - not happening though

My trade was always take on an expiring to attach with Knight to move the contract. Was hoping for Milwaukee signing of Rose, they needed to move Teletovic/Hawes - so take on the pick to attach so they both move Knight and still have two first rounders, clear his cap space earlier.
But in lieu of that - unless something happens with a bigger Melo trade - I say Earl needs to fly to wherever Knight lives, with film/video whatever of Vinnie Johnson, Jamal Crawford, Manu and say "you can be our Sixth Man of the Year" and try to build the heck out of his value
At worst, the buyout or stretch is a lot less next summer or really, the summer of 2019 when Dudley and Chandler roll off than today. Plus, Suns still need to meet the cap floor so he serves that purpose. And if Len does accept the QO - suns will have like 12 to 14m of cap space, or thereabouts after signing Mike James, peters, etc - to easily absorb a contract at the deadline

He went from Amare 2.0 to bust. People need to calm.

I do think that if he's going to carry this kind of weight, (1) it becomes that much more important for Quese to develop a sophisticated arsenal of offensive weapons, incl. a <36% 3FG and interior scoring, and (2) rebounding is going to be increasingly important for him as his footspeed otherwise limits him defensively, and great rebounding is one way to compensate for this effect.
He looked more like a sure thing before. I completely agree that judgment ought to be reserved, though. I have as much as anyone else a natural compulsion to count my chickens.
