I'm not giving up on McCarthy just yet. He was having a good year until the last few starts. If he is anything like the 1st half, I don't mind staying pat with our starters as they are now.

Man...Chris Archer behind Shaw would be a dream.

^it wasn't about giving up on McCarthy, but rather playing a hypothetical game for a chance to upgrade to Yu Darvish. he seemed to have lost a little shine after his injuries but still what he is capable of doing in such a hitter friendly park, is rather impressive.

also, I wonder what the price is on Archer.

Was just a response to Ranma saying we can't rely on him unless he turns it around.

I think he can.

Im not against dealing for Yu.

The Reason for My Doubts on McCarthy

I'm not questioning McCarthy's stuff but he's demonstrated a case of the yips and now has blister issues. Are we confident that he's over the psychological hurdle now? What happens when he enters the postseason with increased scrutiny and pressure? Not to mention he's coming off injury. This was all before being aware that he's been dealing with blister issues since spring.

Given all of those issues, McCarthy doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence as a safe option for the postseason rotation. I'm not exactly panicking right now with Kershaw, Wood, and Hill but given the loss of Urias and inconsistencies of Maeda, McCarthy and Ryu, I'd prefer to bring in another option for the rotation whether it's from within the organization or outside of it. Stewart and maybe Stripling are 2 players I would give more opportunities to start.

Even Hill represents some risk at this point, so I'm certainly more open to trading for a starter. I'll admit Darvish is looking more appealing to me than he did yesterday even with the anticipated high cost. Gray is someone I still really like for the bottom portion of our starting rotation; cost is also a concern with him but to a lesser extent than Darvish.

More on McCarthy

Post#645 » by Ranma » Fri Jul 21, 2017 10:20 pm

I just heard on PTI that Brandon McCarthy accounted for 4 of the last 5 starts where Dodgers starters didn't reach 5 innings pitched. I just checked his ESPN profile and it shows he hasn't reached 5 innings in 3 of his last 4 starts. Hard to have faith in the guy when you add this to the previously stated concerns.

man with in minutes, the Astros finally get the last out on Orioles' mad 5 run 9th to escape with a W and Wood gets two very unlikely plays that puts a runner on third with a run scored already on top of the 1st.

still 2-0, top of the 4th, Alex got two on with two outs and have already given up 6 hits and 1 BB. up in mid 60 pitch count.

Jaime Garcia on the other hand, threw 27 pitches, faced exactly 9 batsmen.

Is Cubs' Hangover Contagious?

Post#651 » by Ranma » Sat Jul 22, 2017 3:11 am

What the effin' hell was that?! Now Wood literally dropped the ball that would have gotten him out of the 4th inning, but instead allows 2 more runs to be tacked on the scoreboard for a 4-0 deficit.

well if there is a positive outcome from this loss, it would be that we are normalizing the run differential in just 1 game instead of a dozen 1 run games.

Geez, our defense has been horrendous throughout this game. If it's not Grandal unable to hold onto the ball behind at the plate or Wood dropping it in the infield, it's Thompson nonchalantly flubbing a catch in the outfield.

it's see if Rich Hill with go for 3 straight...

you know the public knee-jerk reaction will demand a trade for a pitcher like Yu or Gray if Hill falters tonight, eh?

2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international

Post#659 » by Quake Griffin » Sat Jul 22, 2017 8:47 pm

Yu got creamed by the Blue Jays in Game 2 last year.

I've always envisioned an Andy Pettite type behind Kershaw. A guy who isnt the ace of the staff, couldnt shine Shaw's shoes but was nails in the postseason.

Last year Hamels coughed it up in Game 1.
Then Yu.
And the Rangers stood no chance in Toronto after that.
Boom. Done that quickly.
