This is nonsense. He'd have far more control over his destination if he asked for a trade after the season and had only one season left on his contract. Yet rather than wait a year, and take another shot a ring with the team that's been to Finals three years in a row, he walked in and asked for a trade this summer. He only does that because he really doesn't want to play with LBJ anymore.

Yep, and it makes you wonder..

Going back, it seems like Kyrie has never been happy playing with LBJ and it seems like this was his breaking point. I imagine that Kyrie did not intend to **** the Cavs over by waiting until after all this player movement to ask for a trade....so I would guess that he was talking to a friend/family member and talking about how he doesn't want to play with LeBron - and he probably realized that life was too short to be unhappy and so he made this request..

If you've ever known of or been in a work situation that made you unhappy, you know that you aren't nearly as productive - and it really makes you wonder. I've always said that Kyrie *should* be a decent defender - he's quick, strong for his size and has ideal height for a PG - it's possible IMO that his lack of effort and effort on defense could be correlated with him being unhappy - and if that's the case, he really potentially did the Cavs a favor by asking for this trade...albeit a little later than the Cavs would have preferred I'm sure.

I'll get more into this after Kyrie is traded but LBJ coming back to Cleveland is the best thing to ever happen to Kyrie. He's an idiot.

Do you think the Cavs will definitely trade him? I'm mentally laughing at the Cavs potentially saying...."nope, sorry", and then basically forcing Kyrie to have a sit down with LBJ and tell him to his face that he hates playing with him.

Players like Kyrie usually don't come on the market with two years left on their contracts & there are too many star-starved teams out there. I suspect the Cavs get a fair offer & take it. Requesting a trade this summer, when the Cavs still had another title run in them, is probably the straw that broke the camel's back as far as the organization is concerned.

^^^
Seems like they could stall this process a couple months if offers are low balling, but it seems unlikely to me that "nothing" would happen before the season starts. Our new returns might miss full training camp which will hurt some depending on the players, but some kind of deal moving Irving seems inevitable before October at the latest.
I hope they get a great deal fast and move him in the next few weeks, so the team can begin it's process of acclimation and preparation for the season ahead, lessening the lead that established rosters have on us going into the season.
Worst case scenario would be taking back less than a fair deal now, but the second worst would be forcing him to stay well into the season where the turmoil could cause a lot of losses, to only then move him at the deadline where whomever we get back will have to have a fast learning curve to make any impact as the team tries to catch up from the losses it suffered in turmoil before he was gone.
If it goes like that, and he isn't moved until January, I expect this season will be 4-6 seed at best.
They have to move him now.

Cavs should try to trade Kyrie for Gobert. Having the best defender in the league manning the paint would be an actual real difference maker vs GS IMO.

I think these packages in return for Irving is too positive.
By a fair bit.

I would dampen expectations. The other teams have all the leverage, especially since free agency is long time before.
Teams are moderately happy with their team (their plan / have already sold their fan base on whatever already). TO make a change in plan now, would/should only happen due to a no brainer trade return in favor of another team.

^^^ I understand the rational realism, but the Cavs will not settle or dampen expectations, other teams do not have "all" of the leverage because the Cav's do not have to trade him right now. He has 2 years left on his contract at a bargain for what he offers. Kyrie Irving is a highly desirable closer and one of the best offensive juggernauts in the League right now. He can change your franchise. Cav's have made it known they are seeking a blue chipper in return along with solid vets. That is not too much to expect,in fact it is almost a lock that is exactly what they will get.

We'll see. Gilbert isn't going to trade him if he can't get fair value. Just play the season out & trade him for the best pick you can next summer. But I don't see it playing out that way. There's just too many star-starved, and scoring-starved, teams out there.

We wouldn't do it. I could imagine an offer of Favors+Rubio+Hood with picks/ancillary pieces and maybe a third team involved.

Irving has made it clear he does not want to play second fiddle to Lebron and so the fact that he is unsure if Lebron will be there after next season is the opposite of logical thinking as he would hope Lebron left, but on top of that this org is not going to build around Irving while it still has Lebron , so if Lebron leaves Irving still won't be happy because the team is built around Lebron & does not play to Kyries game without Lebron on the team leaving Irving in a situation where he goes back to being a lottery team with all of the same players he has been to 3 finals with sans Lebron. Hence the reasoning for Irving requesting a trade. He thinks Lebron is staying, but even if he leaves both scenarios Irving is "not the man" on a winning roster.
Irving should have made his mind known officially right after the finals not 2 weeks ago. This would have given the org more leverage.
As it is now, he gave them the shaft. Many available fa are gone that could have been had in sign and trades, and most teams are done making moves this off season for the most part. But, even with that being the case there are plenty of teams that would love to add Irving , and so The Cav's will bring in players that will further compliment Lebron, and if Lebron does leave ( doubtful having a team built around him) they will be back to the lottery anyway. Lebron holds all the cards as usual.

Irving isn't leaving because he doesn't want to be in LeBrons shadow, he's just saying that because he wants to leave eventually anyway, it makes no sense to suggest that now that LeBron is clearly giving more shots to Kyrie to lead. He doesn't want to be left with this team when he leaves because, yes, it's not setup for him.

But if you believe it's your way then it's still good because you can keep Kyrie with LeBron this season and then make it Kyries team the season after or trade him.

What do free agents have to do with anything? You need to trade Kyrie, can't sign free agents in the spot he vacates, wages must match. Only affects free agents that can't now be traded until the year end.

I see. Irving isn't leaving for the reason he says he's leaving & really he's okay with staying for the season even though he requested a trade.

Have I missed a direct quote from Irving on saying his reason for leaving? Or are these whispers/rumours?

LeBron leaves at seasons end. If he leaves before LeBron then he looks like the guy that set the wheels in motion to blowing up the team, if he leaves after LeBron then he looks like the guy that kicked the organisation when it was down. He doesn't want to hurt the organisation and he doesn't want to be left with this teams silly contracts for JR, Shump and TT. I think he realised the best time to leave is now. We will only know with time though,

This.
If the relationship is completely gone here (which I believe is the case) this is the type of deal I could see the Cavs taking for Irving. Hopefully. With a Rose signing, this would improve depth, add athleticism and youth on the wing, and fortify the inside D if Favors can stay healthy.
It would also allow Shumpert to be moved in order to clean up a small amount of the cap problems, or to be packaged with whatever picks come along possibly for another vet player (Melo?).

That trade doesn't work too much $ coming back to Cleveland. Rubio Hood & Bradley works & seems fair because Bradley has a lot of upside, but the Cavs wouldn't do this it's not enough. They want a high tier blue chip player like Tatum,Fox or Jackson along with decent vets to make the $ match that will actually improve their roster. Anything short of that and they are better off keeping Irving until before the deadline when there will be more bidding wars.

If you add Frye it works. Assuming you meant Mitchell, not Bradley. Can't imagine that we'd trade Mitchell. Pretty much all assets would be on the table outside of Rudy/Mitchell. Not claiming that it would be the best offer available, but rather the best offer we'd make. Rudy just simply isn't for trade, and is more valuable to us (and probably league wide) than Irving. I see some three way with PHX/NYK where the Cavs get Bledsoe/Carmelo to be the most likely outcome.

Did not mean Mitchell, would not expect him to be included. But like I said that is not enough, and I cannot see Utah being interested in losing Favors for Frye, so to speak, despite Frye's high 3pt%.
Cavs just got Rose, so I would guess their focus will be on a wing blue chipper.

We'll see. Gilbert isn't going to trade him if he can't get fair value. Just play the season out & trade him for the best pick you can next summer. But I don't see it playing out that way. There's just too many star-starved, and scoring-starved, teams out there.

I don't see if playing out that way. Gilbert is not going to start the season with Irving (my most likely case). If he was for example, it would mean offers were low, and Irving/James dynamic on court would be poor, leading to even lower trade offers.

I think he is getting moved for 70 cents on the dollar, and if you try to attach a Shumpert with him, look for 50 cents.

General consensus seems to be the Suns are at the top of the % list ( not sure I believe that yet)but as it stands they could be partially due to the draft day discussions of swapping the 4th pick for somebody that apparently took place. However add the Suns interest in Irving coupled with the fact that they have 2 starting caliber pg's (neither are as good as Kyrie) they would love to unload 1 of them preferably Knight who is slightly less impactful than Bledsoe (when Bledsoe can stay on the court), and the Cavs are probably still interested in Bledsoe to some degree even though they just signed Rose. The key for the Cavs here would be getting back Jackson and probably would demand a lottery pick ( with minimal protection or none) or if the interest is great enough and the Suns are willing to part with Chriss since Bender looks to be the better fit on that roster, the Cavs would potentially walk away with Bledsoe,Jackson,Chriss &
