Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread
You watch NBA games and you see how easily great players can run off screens and get to the rim with ease. Especially in today's NBA where there are so few rim protectors any more. Simmons is such a great finisher around the rim, and I envision him be able to get whatever he wants with the spacing he'll get from Fultz on the perimeter and defenses needing to stay honest on Embiid rolling. In my head I see Simmons getting at least 4-5 easy layups per game running the pick and roll.

Well to be fair... Magic compared Lonzo Ball to himself this year... but last year he said Simmons was the best all-round player he has seen since Lebron.
He has all the physical gifts and baskeball IQ... just need to see if it translates to the NBA as well as everyone thinks.

I'm a Raptors fan lurking just because I love your team. Ben Simmons is one of my favourite players in the NBA and I think he's a superstar but I don't have to sell you guys on that.
This 76ers team is going to wreck the league for years to come.

Those dudes are elite athletes. Ben isn't on par with that. Those two were just ridiculously explosive. To defend Ben just back up off him considerably and force him to drive into contested buckets. Or he can use his great vision. You don't want Ben as your #1 scoring option.
- Simmons has a 41.5-inch maximum vertical, the best of any player 6-foot-9 or taller in shoes.
- Simmons ran the three-quarter-court sprint in 2.9 seconds, the fastest of any player 6-foot-8 or taller in shoes.
- Simmons has a 12-foot-6 maximum vertical reach, the highest reach of any player.
I'm the biggest Simmons fan and think he's going to be a monster but I don't buy these claims. Eye test tells me those stats aren't accurate. Chad Ford reported that 3/4 court test but there's no footage. His jumping ability doesn't seem phenomenal but he is a good athlete.

That's cool. Not sure where you were attempting to go with this. Perhaps a preview of what to expect for nba2k18?
I don't see given the eye test you can say Ben athleticism is on par with Greek freak and Bron. Ben doesn't have that explosiveness. He's a good athlete no question but hit up YouTube for early Bron and Greek Freak. There's no way you see Ben Simmons in the same manner

Ben isn't as good an athlete as Giannis or Lebron, but he is still an elite athlete in all regards.

I think his Jumping ability is quite good but these are numbers that would put him in contention for GOAT athleticism and I while I see an elite athlete, I don't see that LBJ, MJ, Russ level athlete.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Judging solely on SL performances alone, Simmons reminds me of a much taller Lonzo, in that they both are pass-first exceptional passers. Simmons with the edge in midrange game potential, Ball with the edge in 3 point range potential. Simmons with the significant overall edge due to size.

Simmons with big edge on rebounding, athleticism, slashing, defense and scoring too though.
Ball is an equal facilitator/passer and a superior shooter. Simmons has everything else.

Lebron is gonna come to the sixers. Him and Simmons seem to be really close.

From what I've seen of limited Simmons video of his new shooting stroke.... and what I saw of Ball in SL I am not sure that Ball is even better at shooting than Simmons now. First few months of the season will tel... but Ball's shot is so broken and Simmons looks so fluent I cannot possible see Ball being a better shooter in the league.

No just No.
Lonzo shot 19% from 3 point land in Summer League whilst chucking it up at JR Smith type regularity against poor defenders that were often leaving him wide open and daring him to shoot it.
Tell me again how good Lonzo is at shooting.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread
It's pretty ridiculous to claim Simmons is as equal a shooter to Lonzo based on his jumper not looking as busted in about a minute long scripted workout video. I don't care about Summer league we've seen Lonzo light it up from deep in meaningful basketball games. Ball is and will probably forever be a better shooter than Simmons.

Ball's shot isn't broken. It is just weird looking. It is very effective, and that is all that matters.

In College yes. With the a longer 3 point line in Summer League it was ineffective.
Lets see how the both go in the NBA after 6 months.

Wait you watch Simmons practice video and all of sudden he's a better shooter than Lonzo just because Lonzo shot under 38% in SL? Cmon don't be a hater and that's dumb to say that. Lonzo was missing lots of open 3s in SL. I'm willing to bet it's nerve and pressure from all the hype and not familiar with the NBA 3pt line. Curry shot under 35 percent in SL just to let you know.
I suggest watching Lonzo's college games or his offensive highlights mixtape at UCLA ? Dude was shooting 3s deep like 5 feet away/NBA range from the 3pt line at a 45% rate. Kinda of crazy he's making them with that funky shot he has and he's going to be a very good shooter in the NBA with time.

Lonzo struggled shooting the rock in summer league. No question about it. Ball shot 24% from 3 actually. I've been critical of Lonzo shooting this summer but come on.
Your argument is really flawed when it's based on Ben Simmons in an empty gym shooting from the same spot. Flawed and laughable. Ben Simmons shot 36% in summer league and attempted 1 3pter. Defenders in the summer league what did u call them again? Poor defenders? Well they blatantly backed up off him and dared him to shoot.
I'm not going to sit here and argue if Lonzo shooting in college will translate into the NBA. Maybe it does maybe it doesn't. It looked pretty bad in the summer. But Ben Simmons has done nothing to suggest he's better at it than Lonzo despite his SL %'s.
So yeah stop just stop...
