Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I think McD's max offer will be Bledsoe, Warren, their choice of Bender/Chriss and Miami's 1st rounder. Under no circumstances is he giving up Jackson (given his skillset is much needed with that backcourt) or our own 1st since it could easily implode and still be picking top-5. If Cleveland wants to throw in a Shumpert for Chandler swap for some size maybe they do and bring back Len for defense purposes. Next summer it would be easier to dump Knight and create cap room for a FA before Booker is up for an extension.

If Cavs are seeking a Blue Chip Young Player, surely it's Wiggins.

Yeah but now they'd have to watch two guys and Booker would have to watch him too. I already didn't like watching Bledsoe and Booker take turns doing that but this would be worse. And the more one did it the more the other would and everyone else would not be involved. I'm SO accustomed to unselfish teams through the KJ/Kidd/Nash eras that it's just exactly the type of guy that I am not a big fan of even though he has and elite talent at iso scoring.
I agree that Booker and Bledsoe took the majority of shots, but actually watch the games, there was only 2 1/2 reliable offensive players on this team and none of them, except occasionally Knight and Ulis, were able to create offense for themselves or others. I'd love to see the W's scheme here, but the young players are just not that developmentally advanced.
True, but does Kyrie help them become more developmentally advanced? And would he leave after two years? Very likely because we won't be winning enough to get close to the playoffs, and he will have a hard time making the all star team in the WC. Good to see you posting again.
I would only take Irving if the price was right and my concept of right is probably a lot lower than others. I certainly would not include Jackson or Booker and would have a hard time including Warren Chriss and Bender, but you have to give something to get something so I'd think about Bledsoe (not too happy about that) Warren or Chris and a top 10 protected 1st. That's about it. If that's not enough he can go elsewhere.

That's too much in my opinion. Bledsoe, Warren and a 1st is as high as I would go. I do not see another teams that can beat that offer and if they can, great they can have him.
Some worry about Bledsoe's knees (I don't give them a second thought) and mileage, but Kyrie's availability record is not stellar, his knee injury was worse than Bledsoe's and he has more minutes over his career than Bled.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I wouldnt move Jackson or Booker, but most definitely I would be okay with moving anything else.
We could build a fantastic core of Booker, Kyrie and Josh.
McD has talked about stockpiling assets to get a superstar. That is the end game. There is no chance that all of TJ, Ulis, Chriss, Bender, our pick this year, Jackson, 2x Miami 1sts will all develop into stars while on the same team. We cannot develop 9 prospects (including Booker) at once on our team. Its time to cash in, before we lose them for nothing in FA, or worse, be forced to match a bad contract when their rookie deals expire in RFA.
Get it done McD.

We need to be a 50 win team with our young players (eventually) otherwise not flipping the roster for Cousins, Irving, Butler, George is going to look stupid.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I think it's clear Bledsoe, Jackson, and a first are exactly what the Cavs want. They won't get that.
What are the best offers from other teams?
Miami has Dragic but is thin on firsts and does not have a blue chip prospect. Would they do Dragic, Johnson or Winslow or Bam, plus a future first?
Denver won't part with Jokic but could offer Harris. Something Like Harris, Barton, and Farried, plus future first works but no PG coming back.
Minnesota isn't offering Wiggins and the Teague deal makes the trade prohibitive.
Knicks offer Melo, Frank, plus multiple firsts isn't bad. I still am intrigued by that three way deal. Frank could be a great fit next to Booker and Jackson long term. Or he could be Donte Exum.
The Milwaukee and Memphis deals seem too far fetched.

Yes, the more I analyze the entire situation, with him probably leaving, wanting the ball and 20-25 shots a game, dribbling a ton, and the fit, it doesn't ultimately make much sense for our team and where we are.
I MIGHT trade Bledsoe and the Heat pick for him, but that would be my limit..and maybe include Dudley since he is a nice fit. We can't start giving up young assets we've included for a win now player when we likely would not win much now, and he would likely leave and we deplete assets that help our future. I'm not even sure we get much better with him over Bledsoe, and at least we know Bledsoe loves the team, if we happen to decide to try and keep him.

I like the discussed about three way deal and getting Ntilikina and maybe a pick the most. At least we control him, could try him and Ulis at PG, and assess where we are and continue to develop our team while the west is brutal.

I'm fine including Bledsoe, Warren or Chriss, and the 2018 MIA pick. I would probably give up the other Miami pick as well if it closed the deal.

How many teams would flip their roster for 3 of Cousins, George, Butler, Irving?
I'd think about 26 but it seems there is more interest in not losing deals than competing for championships.

But bw, what if this trade leads us to get another free agent, say, like Anthony Davis or Boogie Cousins? Then we're in business with Golden State. They can't handle a big man who can do all that those two can. Can you imagine Zaza and Boogie Cousins in the Western Conference finals? Zaza might get murdered.

We are nowhere near GS with Boogie and Kyrie. Neither have ever won in the NBA unless they play with LeBron. AD isn't a free agent for like 4 years. We should go after him then when our players are hitting their prime, but Kyrie is all about himself. Boogie wouldn't like playing with him.

JDLAW wrote:First, I doubt that offer was made. If it was, the Cavs would have done the deal and not looked back. Windhorst is just trying to stir up interest for his buddy's team.
I have been reading with great interest all of the opinions being thrown out about a possible Kyrie Irving trade to the Suns. Many great comments. In fact it rivals the rumor mill when Orlando was moving T-Mac. All these players were supposedly offered and yet Orlando ended with Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley not anything close to the rumors.
I just do not think a Suns - Cavs trade will happen unless Cleveland lowers its demands. The notion that the Suns would unload a substantial amount of its assets for 2 years of Kyrie Irving is abhorrent. I believe the Suns had an agreement in principle to trade the 4th pick and Bledsoe for Irving or Bledsoe and another veteran player in a 3-way deal for a young player and a pick as primary return. You can pick choose any of the pre-draft rumors – they were probably all discussed to some extent.
But several things happened – none of them were good for Cleveland. Griffin, who probably knew about Irving’s desire to move on, worked like crazy to get a deal put together that in the end would satisfy his boss (Gilbert), and was probably doing so without Gilbert’s full knowledge. Gilbert caught wind of it and let Griffin go for a variety of reasons, this being one of the main ones. That ended up killing the deal.
The Suns were willing to trade the 4th pick before the draft, in large part because they thought they were not going to get the player they wanted. That changed on draft night when Jackson fell to them. Such a scenario is fairly common, think about Golden State 7th pick (Curry) with the Suns (Stoudemire). It is likely that the deal was in place, but when Curry fell to the Warriors, the deal collapsed. I suspect they are not willing to trade Jackson whereas they were willing to trade the #4 as they see Jackson a two-way player that is similar to players like Leonard, Butler, George who blossomed into stars.
I think Irving and Booker could get along in the Suns backcourt because Irving like most of the NBA players (except Crowder), has a lot of respect for Booker and Booker is mentally tough. I have a lot more concern about how Irving will fit with the Suns other young developing players. I tend to think their development suffers with Irving as a point guard.
Finally, you have to question Irving’s motives because his actions come off as self-centered. What I see is a player who had the best season of his career and played in the most games he has ever played in, be left off of all the All-NBA teams – he wasn’t close while watching players like Thomas and Derozen emerge and other guards like Curry, Harden and Westbrook be widely recognized as their teams leaders, cornerstones and best players. He also saw Harden and Westbrook escape the shadows of famous teammates and have unprecedented seasons. He has got to be thinking to himself, “That should be me if just get out or LeBron’s shadow.” If this is true and I suspect it is, I would expect to be a very motivated (the good), but very self-centered player (the bad). Might pull off a few more wins (good), but at the cost of development of your youngsters (the bad)?
I just don’t think I’d take the chance – especially if the price is what LeBron’s fat bootlick, Windhorst, is reporting.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
If Irving is demanding a trade the price goes down. This isn't a .500 team that can holdout with an upset star, this is a contending team that CANNOT go into the season with this cloud over them. I highly doubt McD would include Jackson in an offer but the question is why are we even considering it? Irving has made a list of preferred destinations and we weren't on it. Maybe he'll come around but I'm not giving up Bled, Jackson, and our 1st next year for a guy that MAY or MAY NOT stick around our Timeline. The only offer I'm willing to make for Irving is Bled, Warren, and the Miami pick and frankly I don't think he's worth much more than that.
Ideally we just help facilitate Irving to NY and Bled to the Cavs. Think this a solid trade for all teams;
Suns in: Frank Ntilikina, Shumpert, NY 2018 1st rounder (Top 7 protected)
Suns Out: Eric Bledsoe
Knicks in: Kyrie Irving, Channing Frye
Knicks Out: Carmelo Anthony, Frank Ntilikina, 1st round pick
Cavs in: Carmelo and Bled
Cavs Out: Irving, Frye, Shump
Basically Knicks give up Carmelo, Ntilinkina and their pick for Irving. And then the cavs flip Ntilinkina and the pick to us for Bledsoe as long as we agree to take back Shumpert's contract as well. If it nets us that extra first I'm more than happy to have Shump.
Suns Fully commit to the Timeline and have 3 first rounders next year.

Could the CAVS be setting the table for a Wiggins trade for Irving after signing Derek Rose?

I guess. Though we aren't seeing the timeline where the Suns trade all their assets for two of them and then in two years they leave a mediocre Suns team, with its mediocre market and its brutal conference where they may not even be an all-star or make the playoffs, to go East in two years for an all but guaranteed all-star spot and playoff spot against weak competition.
Mulhollanddrive wrote:5 years ago Dudley, Gortat, Morris, Pick was considered too much for Harden.
We could be wrong again. But the big difference there was Harden was an RFA, so he was locked up for five years.
