“I think people talk about what it would be like in Portland or to play in Portland, but actually having lived here, I live here year-round, so I know it’s a great place to live,” Lillard said. “Some of the best food in the United States. You talk about loving the game of basketball, our team and the soccer team are all the city has, so we get a lot of support and our fans really back our team and are really passionate about our team. That type of environment, and that type of love and support around the city, what NBA player wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”

I do heart Lillard. I hope he actually does become a life long Blazers.

As disappointing as it is to see Portland consistently passed over by high end players, I'm grateful for what the Blazers have in Dame and CJ. Dame in particular is just a really great ambassador for the city.

We are very lucky indeed, but I have to wonder how long until our luck runs out? Olshey needs to put better players around him and CJ before they start thinking about relocating. It's really easy to look around at all these other franchises forming super teams while we add rookies and start to think about how they could be more successful somewhere else with better management.

Let's not forget that Olshey grabbed Nurk and a 1st for plumdog... one or two more deals like that and you won't need a big FA signing.

Remember the GSW didn't sign POOP until they already had three all-NBA players... I don't see the Blazers very differently from the Warriors... Portland will have to build a contender from within, then people from outside will want to join.

Recent History point 1: The way to mess with the Blazers was to limit Damian. Get the ball out of his hands with a double-team on high screen rolls [as shown by the by the Clippers using Jordan, especially]. Then, with CJ becoming option 1B, it was challenge Damian and CJ whenever only 1 of them was on the court. Then, Olshey got Turner to help out because no one else could.

Recent History point 2: Before Nurkic, Damian and CJ got theirs, but no one else stepped forward as a clear number 3 scorer who could be relied upon. And there was certainly no number 4 or 5 or 6 -- one or two of whom would provide necessary points in the playoffs when teams try to take away a crucial strength/scorer.

TODAY

Lillard + McCollum is a great 1-2 scoring punch. It's not seamless, but it's really good.
Nurkic is a number 3 scorer whose impact goes beyond scoring.

So, now we're looking for the number 4 scorer, or 2-3 guys who can step up. This is much better in a very short amount of time.
And, I think, it's why trading for a polarizing, older veteran like Carmelo Anthony (who gets his own) has been met with as much approval on this board as it has.

I'll just tuck this in at the end: Swanigan passes up Vonleh by the end of this coming season.

I'm against it because of current chemistry and skills of Lillard-McCollum, but it's Kyrie Iriving. Please explain your reasoning. Just asking.

I think it would be a wash. Stott's system of playing two small guards will never get us past the Warriors. They put up great numbers, and Irving in this case would too, but they suck defensively.

But lets just keep blaming Turner, Crabbe and Olshey while thinking Nurkic will solve everything.

I think Irving is better than CJ and his defense is at least average. That being said I really dont think a Dame-Irving backcourt would mesh well.

Is Mike Rice breaking news, reporting the rumor from 2 weeks ago, or confused? He does know some people around the league, so he may have inside information - but, he never really broke any news while working for the team...

IF true, I hope that Portland somehow convinced New York to take Leonard OR not take Harkless.
OR...
Maybe it's Cleveland. And, we're helping Melo get to Cleveland and Kyrie get to New York...

We'll have to wait and see.

No inside info, but I'd bet you guys are getting Love if that play-by-play announcer is right;

I hope you're right, but Rice didn't even have accurate trade info while he was gainfully employed by the Blazers.... not sure how he has insider info now that he's "retired".

I imagine that while he was working for the team he could have been fired pretty quickly for leaking insider information of which I'm sure he had plenty. Now that he doesn't work for the team he can probably say whatever he wants. I'm assuming his severance package was for a year and limited him up to now.

Kevin Love would be great if the price is right.

I agree that Kevin Love would be a superb get for the right price.

We'd start Aminu at SF and then we'd need to sure up our defense through trades, but we'd have a clear talent upgrade.

If Blazers get Love then CJ must be going to Cavs. No way Cleveland trade Irving and Love for Melo and some scraps. Also Knicks must add some real value for Irving/Melo swap. Overall this rumor smells like BS.

in my view, Mike and Mike were better then the new duo, but the key to that perspective is never taking anything Mike Rice says seriously....not without performing a breathalyzer while getting another source for confirmation

for all we know, he could have written this tweet 2 weeks ago but forgot to send it and then inadvertently hit send yesterday when he stepped on his phone heading for the fridge or the bathroom

Mike Rice was always at his best (unruly) doing the away games in Memphis. Probably because FedEx Forum is at the end of Beale St.

And Love >>> other dross on Blazers roster. Portland would have to get some other incentives to cover value difference between CJ and Love.

Thankfully that won't matter, as CJ will not be traded anywhere

It's still looking like it's going to be to Houston. My hope is that Portland's hardball stance has made Houston change it's offer of Anderson, to Gordon/Ariza. We'll see...
