In theory we have a good starting lineup with a somewhat decent depth in the bench but that's something usual for Greece NT.
This is the first time that we have Giannis in proper superstar mode though...
It's also nice to have a normal even though mediocre at worst coach and not some Joker like the last 2 tournaments with his stupid progressive experiments.

I expect an above average defense when Bouroussis sits on the bench, good ball movement and Giannis brilliance to give us a medal as long as we won't face Serbia/France/Spain early in the knockouts.

Just surround Giannis with shooters... saddle up, and win Eurobasket.

Forwards: Giannis, Printezis, Papapetrou, Papanikolaou, Thanasis
This is the strongest part of the team.

Guards: Matzaris, Sloukas, Calathes, Pappas
Not too bad, but missing the big personalities of the past

Centers: Bourousis, Papagiannis
The weakest position. I don't think Papa is ready and Bourousis is getting old

As usual no great shooters in the team, there are a few that can hit an open 3p. I expect to see lots of small ball with Giannis or some other forward playing center.

Easy to say that but hard to do it. Dorsey and Mitoglou are deadly shooters from SG/PF but young, will not make the team. Still our next gen won the gold medal at U20 without Papajohn and K. Andeto. Charalampopoulos won the MVP, great great all around F who is slow but can shoot. Koniaris a 6'4 strong combo guard who can also shoot had a great tournament too, so I guess that if not this year, the next 5-6 Giannis will be the leader of an NT that will win a medal

Idk much about it, but I feel like this won't be the year we truly see Giannis Unleashed with the GNT. Not yet.
His game doesnt seem to translate super great to Euro ball (i.e., cant shoot, thrives in transition).
Excited as hell to see him and the whole team play. Go Greece!

I disagree with GB34 regarding the coach, he's an old guy whose specialization is developing younger players and had only a mediocre career as a club coach (hasn't coached in club level since 2006). Did a very good job with the u20, u18 and Women's teams in the past but the only reason we brought him was that he was cheap :P He can't be worse than Katsikaris at any rate! :D

That's what I said. He is just a normal mediocre coach which is still more preferable than Katsikaris and his progressive ideas which don't fit at all with our DNA. This time we know what to expect..

This shouldn't be green font after the video that was posted yesterday.

No Jokic, Gobert or Batum this year, not sure about KP. I kind of just lost half my interest in the tournament :(

Spain is a full squad with all 4 Hernangomez & Gasol brothers, Rubio, Abrines, Lull and Mirotic. Clearly the team to beat this summer.
Latvia could be good as well if KP joins.

The one where Giannis was shooting FTs from 3 point range on a Philippinize size backboard?

This is the first time i see anyone comparing Rubio to Sloukas, Sloukas is so much much better scorer and shooter its not funny.
Mantzaris isnt 3 and 3, he is a defensive specialist ,he can make some shots but nowhere near the definition of 3 and d.

Missing Dorsey hurts but i hope this new coah will play a less frustrating system compared to Katsikaris and we will do fin e.

How will Giannis be used by the NT this summer? Greek fans who know, what can we expect? What kind of role do you envision? What kind of usage? How do you see him used in the offense? Will they form the offense around his skills or will he be posted up in the corner again in half-court?

That should only be in half green, because there is some truth to the statement. He's not going to be as focused on improving that skill this way. His summer is split-up, again, as it was in previous summers when he didn't come around in that particular department. From that 3 pt shooting contest video, it looks like he still needs all the work he can get.

I don't think he likes doing that, sitting in a gym by himself for months. It looks like he prefers variety and games.

Strong group.
Couldn't Thanasis start at center?

Thanassis future is a small ball PF, or even C, like Pietrus (the brother of the former NBA player), but he still thinks that he is a swingman. PAO coach and NT coach will do wonders for him.
