I hope you are right because Kyrie isn't worth half of the proposals I've seen here. I admire his skills, but I don't see him as a generational player that we should build around. I greatly prefer to keep our team the way it is, prioritize improving our assets and internal growth, and prepare for a championship in a few years.
Meanwhile, the next big decision we have is what to do with J-Rich's extension. We can offer 4/$42 on Aug 3 (until Oct 15), which would look like this:
Josh Richardson (9/15/93)
2018-2019: $9,375,000 (25 yo start of season)
2019-2020: $10,125,000 (26)
2020-2021: $10,875,000 (27)
2021-2022: $11,625,000 (28)
If we don't resign him this season, he is RFA next season and will make whatever the market dictates. We can match, but likely at a much higher rate.
Damn this sucks we're in a terrible position. Rich would be dumb to sign this extension after seeing what Tj got.

I have a hard time believing that Cle want to have anything to do with TJ's contract. They have enough horrible contracts the last thing they need is take on another one though TJ's a good player. Come on Mos, Bish, come on

TJ's deal isn't great but looking at how players are being paid around league, its not the worst. It can be moved if needed, look at Crab.

TJ was lucky to be a FA in 2016. 4/42 is a fair contract for Rich, doubt he would get anything better on the market

For our roster a no defense playing ball stopper in Kyrie is not an upgrade over Dragic
You guys are sleeping hard on Goran
Dragic averaged 20/6 on 47% last year, without playing next to LeBron and without shooting more than Curry, Harden, Durant, and James like Kyrie did. He's the better player in a vacuum, and actually elevates his teammates. You guys want to trade that for a better version of Mo Williams?
Also we need to realize and acknowledge the primes other guards like Goran have had. It comes later on in their career, just look at Nash whos prime was 31-35. Kyrie will be lucky not to have a Gilbert Arenas type collapse, the guy relies on his driving ability, and has a completely reconstructed knee cap. Watch him try to carry a team, he'll be lucky to make it 50 games playing like he does.
Kyrie had the same numbers with a much higher usage. He averaged roughly 4 more points a game and took 4 more field goals a game. It's a negligible difference in production.
People need to take a step back, go re watch some of our games in our 23-5 run. It was no fluke, it was majestic team type basketball. We looked like the damn Spurs out there. This team could very well be the best in the East. I don't put Boston ahead of us, and Cleveland is in shambles.
Wanting to trade Dragic not to mention Hassan, is absurdly stupid. For what so you can feel content with us having a household name? Notoriety doesn't win championships, neither do grossly overrated talents like Kyrie Irving.
People may hate this comment but I can't help but feel Dragic gets disrespected because he's a white guy with an accent playing a guard spot. He gets no calls, certainly not the calls star players in this league get. About once a week he's the victim of some ridicoulous elbow or cheap shot, and rarely gets a call for it. He's criminally underrated and underappreciated as a talent. He's a damn good ball player.
Hell no to acquiring Kyrie Irving

Yeah I think Cleveland could actually use a player like TJ and he isn't unmovable per se. But I think their secondary goal with any Kyrie trade is to shed salaries such as Shump and Frye.. it defeats the purpose if they get a balloon contract in return. Their FO might not be the smartest but they would be cautious about taking on bad contracts considering how much tax the owner has to pay as a repeater. I also think that most teams around the league aren't really looking to help the Cavs out when it comes to dumping players.. understandably so.

As much as we'd like to package TJ in this potential deal, I really can't see Cleveland taking on that contract. It's nasty af, even though TJ is a really solid player.
Ball is in PHX court. They can trump just about any offer, if they really want to. The question is if they just grow organically, or use up some assets to acquire a guy like Irving - who may not stay beyond the 2yrs anyway.
If PHX doesn't bite, CLE may have to circle back to us.

If the season starts mid-October, pre-season normally goes for about 4 weeks from memory, so that should start early September, which puts training camp likely around mid-August?

Agreed. TJ is not an option for Cleveland. They're trying to add talent with a win-now vet and young rookie scale player WHILE shedding salary to relieve the luxury tax burden. No way they want that contract that balloons to $19M per for the last two years of it.
Also agree on PHX, but they've shown an unwillingness to trade Josh Jackson or Devin Booker (for good reason), which leads me to believe Cleveland would have no other choice than to circle back to Miami to see what they can get. Haven't confirmed it, but I saw that supposedly Sam Mitchell had said on a podcast that Kyrie and his agent have been telling teams not on his list that there's no guarantee he'd resign with them in 2 years time. If that's the case, out of the four teams on his list, Miami can put together the most compelling package.
I think Miami's initial (and reasonable) offer would be what Albert Nahmad had cooked up:
CLE receives:
Goran Dragic
Justise Winslow
Wayne Ellington
2023 1st Round pick
MIA receives:
Kyrie Irving
Iman Shumpert

I'm still hopeful we could do this without having to include Winslow, and instead including JRich. Might be false hope though.
