what an exciting time, even if nothing happens the talk will always be intriguing. imagine what playing cleveland would be like if we had Irving. maybe we'd even get on national television again for once
If that is really all it took I'd probably do it, as long as it wasn't one of our own picks unless protected, or the Miami 21 pick. If they will take Miami's pick next year fine or a top 10 or so protected pick by us.....always top 10 protected and turns into two seconds or something...I could live with that. I'd rather keep Chriss but they want that young guy.
Has Chriss been mentioned in the media? Suddenly I see you and BobbieL mentioning him. If we are going to go with two guards that will launch 40-50 shots a night, we will need players like TJ, JJ, Bender, etc, who are more low maintenance but have a higher bbiq.
Trading Chriss with a possibility, or actually a probability of Irving leaving in a couple of years scares me because I think his upside could be huge if his iq catches up with his athleticism. I mean to be able to hit 3s, dunk, block shots, etc...that's awesome stuff.
I'll still probably come out of this happier moving forward with the timeline we had set forth as I like our current squad and that we have some nice picks and was excited, and this would just make me a little nervous.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
Interesting...it sounds like we'd bring back Len on a very reasonable deal. They could do a similar one to Williams..maybe a bit more money but not guarantee all the years..or more than one.

that's fully messed up
first waiving Barbosa for no reason (no one is getting signed, and we still need to reach market value), and only guaranteeing the first year of guy who loves the Suns as much as anyone and is already receiving less than his market value with his contract. minor moves sure, but I don't like what the FO has done here.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
if the Kyrie trade is actually going to go down, anybody think that Cleveland would demand to include Ulis?
Cavs reasoning- okay you aren't giving up a "blue chip" young player like Jackson, but we will take both Chriss and Ulis as fair compensation instead.
Cavs still need a backup guard- they weren't happy with Felder last year, Derrick Rose is a high value signing but questionable, D-Will seems to be finished (if he even resigns). Tyler Ulis has shown that he can be a decent backup guard behind Bledsoe and is a pass first PG that their second unit could thrive with.
I for one, would be against that deal. Chriss may have more future value in the NBA, but I think Ulis was our best rookie last season overall, and he already has great rapport with his teammates, especially Booker.
Edit: well this embarrassing, I wasn't picturing Rose on that team with the second unit even though I mentioned his name in the same sentence. Still, Ulis would be good backup considering both Rose and Bledsoe have a history of injury.

Regardless of how good of a dude Alan is, he was an NBA walk-on and still needs to earn his keep. This allows the Suns to evaluate him for another year without having to guarantee him more money if he ends up flopping this upcoming season. I hope that is not the case as he's the cousin of one of my friends, therefore he is the homie, and I want him to stay here.

Irving for Bledsoe, Chriss, and Derrick Jones. Maybe we give them the right to swap picks in 18 or 19.

You know, this may be overlooked. If it doesn't work out, we could probably flip him to the Wolves for Wiggins/Teague if that also doesn't work out. Then we can say that 48 win team never happened and we were suppose to tank and get Wiggins all along.

C'mon! Barbosa wasnt waived for no reason!
He was waived so we have cap space and roster space to take more back in a trade (whether it be for young players or assets). He was also waived on July 3rd, which was early on in the offseason, so we could have that room and space in case such a occasion should arise. We also plan on getting Reed and Jones Jr. minutes to develop at SG, which releasing Barbosa gives us the ability to do, instead of him just getting paid to rot on the bench.
Big Sauce's deal is what it is. We all were ecstatic to hear the news we got him and got him for rather cheap. Having 2 years unguaranteed just allows us the ability and flexibility to either keep him (which i believe we will be looking to do) long term, or cutting him in case something were to happen (Major Stud C gets acquired along with some other bigs in trade or an injury).

that's reasonable, but essentially Alan has less guaranteed money than a 1st round rookie contract. In his 1.5 seasons, I think he's proven atleast as much as a similar situation like Plumlee, who received a fully guaranteed 40/4. Even if he flops, his contract isn't too bad in and of itself for a practice guy that's the top player-cheerleader in the league. Alan could probably get more money on the open market; he certainly gave the Suns all the leverage here, as did Barbosa. Hopefully the future for the Big Sauce here is different!

fair point about making space for potential trades; and if he would rather being playing elsewhere than serving a a mentor. But we only saved 3.5 million dollars (and we have sufficient room)- just seems more like a Sarver-eqsue move. Also Barbosa's deal could also be viewed as 1-year deal with a signing bonus; yes, but perhaps my sentimentality in sports is misplaced when I value retiring our own players here.

no I don't think chriss has been mentioned, I just assumed that if JJ was off the table that he'd probably be the next option. Though, as it has been pointed out, plenty of players have been told the same thing just to be traded. I really hate the idea of giving up any of the young guys but if it's only one of them and you're landing a 25 year old with more accolades than most 30 year olds in the nba you kinda gotta go for it. (between bender and chriss i'd definitely want to hold on to bender. have a weird feeling about him that I don't feel with Chriss)
