Magic fans, introduce yourself!

Post#1 » by SOUL » Thu Jul 27, 2017 11:10 pm

Hey guys, every few years I like to make this thread and it usually brings in pretty good engagement/posters out of the woodwork -which is always nice. As much as we quibble and complain and argue, it's easy to forget there are humans behind all of these words and that we're (mostly) good people . Share as much or as little as you want, it'll be nice to get to know some of you (especially the newer posters) a little bit more.

Anyway, I'm Nick. 28 years old. I write for a living, including several articles for RealGM. I graduated from Dr. Phillips HS and previously worked at Downtown Disney in hospitality. Currently I'm in New York taking care of my grandpa/his house after back surgery, but I do technically still live in Orlando. I must admit I do have a soft spot for NY since I was born here and I love the pace of it.

Fun fact: I'm not particularly fond of the name SOUL, and I actually don't even know where it came from. It's not my handle anywhere else and has zero meaning to me, but I figured I'd just stick with it since I've had it for so long. Although I am itching to change it secretly..

Anyway, if any of you guys have Twitter, follow me @ https://twitter.com/nicolasthesaint and I'll follow you back. Always looking for more Magic fans to follow/support.

I was gonna add a picture, but nobody gives a **** what I look like so I'll maybe save that for next time.

Hi,

I don't want to disclose my personal infomation but I am a professional basketball player from Rome, Italy.

I actually played in the NBA but never got the recognition or awards I rightfully deserved but now I am back in Europe where I am much happier.

In my personal life I suffer from Nelophobia and have been known to be scared of Canadians (I have some bad memories which I won't get in to here).

My name is Matt and I've been a Magic fan for about 25 years. Mainly because they are a classy organization and Rich Revos is a bible believing conservative Christian. God bless.

36 years old and been a Magic fan through thick and thin for 26 years.

Not from Florida or anywhere in the US of A. I live in a weird island in the middle of north Atlantic ocean and my neighbours are Björk, elves and trolls.

Sup brehs, lifelong Magic fan here. I'm 27. Family moved from NY to FL in the 80's. When this fine franchise was established it was fresh and there was nothing else like it around here so the fam became instantly attached. Haven't missed a Magic game as far back as I can remember, if I don't get my Orlando fix I become irritated. Almost like a crackhead.

As a young Magic fan I would set up recycle bins at each end of our garage, grab a nerf basketball and pretend I was TMac during commercials. I've been force fed every Shaq video imaginable. As a young adult I put my entire first paycheck from the job I had at the time on the 2009 finals. I regret that one. I usually go to a game 3 or 4 times a season.

Uhhhh other than that I'm tired of the negativity here and if I found out about this forum sooner I would've been all up in your asses a long time ago. Metaphorically speaking.

Anyways let's have a great season!

I'm Ben. An Aussie filmmaker/TV Producer. Magic fan since the early 90's (that was when the NBA became accessible over here). Formerly known as retail_dog, but changed my handle many moons ago.

I love a bit of collaboration, so I'd be keen to know what other creatives hang on the boards. I know we've got another couple of filmmakers/editors in our midst. PM me if you wanna share your work and don't want to post it here for all to see.

I'm currently on an anime binge. Been immersed in everything I can get my hands on for the last month. Any suggestions, hit me up!

I created a similar thread years ago if anyone remembers, still follow all of you who participated! I'm all for putting a face to arrogant, negative minded, childish people (KIDDING....not really lol).

My name is Johnny, I just turned 30 (damn I feel old saying that) I graduated from West Orange High School (Class of '05) been here for quite some time (was a lurker for years before I stopped being lazy and actually made an account). Actually was here live and well for the most infamous/epic threads of all time (CP3 coming to Orlando, where "Magical" was feeding us hot garbage and we ate it all up  good freakin times).

I was raised and went to school in Florida (FSU) and moved a little under two years ago to the big city for a new position I accepted within the company I've worked for for the last ten years, my time up north was a huge learning experience and enjoyed every bit of it (even the harsh winters). Now, literally this upcoming Monday I'll be starting a new new position in San Francisco and super stoked about that. No worries fellas I've stayed loyal no matter where I moved and always force the lids in the area to get in Magic hats haha.

My handle is meant to sound like Magic Johnson (one of my favorite players) but Magic is obviously for the team and Johnny is my name. The number 12 made sense because that's the number I played in back in the day and it happen to be Dwights number then Harris which I was both fans of.

Fun fact - was at the game where we defeated Lebron and co to advance to the Finals (actually got on tv). Was also at the only game the organization has ever won in the finals.

Random fact - just got back from a month long backpacking trip through Southeast Asia, if anyone is thinking on taking a similar trip and need any advice or have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask.

If I've been recognized and have the reputation as a homer on the boards I'm totally okay with that haha. Just a very super positive person that don't believe us as fans should be talking in such a negative context about our team and organization we're riding with especially the amount of negativity I see certain posters spew it's beyond me. I try to stay somewhat realistic with my opinions and thoughts, but it just seems some posters literally come here to down our team regardless of what we do. We sign Jeff Green to a 15m/1 yr deal they scream bloody murder (rightfully so). We sign Aaron Affalo to 1 yr deal/ vet min they STILL scream bloody murder. We fire Hennigan and co and we're immediately the worst ran franchise in the league, we hire competent, PROVEN complete front office and the very FIRST move we do they still scream we're still the worst front office in the league lol. We can't do no right literally in their eyes, but this is suppose to be a positive post so I'll just say this. I think certain people should simply erase the prior sentiments of this club and come into this season with a clean slate and give this team the benefit of the doubt as we literally have a completely different regime. New front office and all (aside from grease ball and the owner of course) and judge from this off season on, it's only fair. From what we see so far we seriously can't be mad IMHO.

My names Jimmy. Been a fan for a long time. I turn 30 next week and not looking forward to it. Live in Melbourne, went to UCF.

Fun fact: one time I got to go on the court and do this little race with my gf against another couple between the end of the 3rd/start of the 4th. We had these big costumes on that weighed a ton. Anyway I lost to the other dude in the race like a beta male but it was still fun to do. Last thing on the bucket list is to do one of those half court shot contests.

What's happening. The name's Orlando Till. Born and raised in the MCO in 1996. I got into watching the team via osmosis as my folks would put on my65 and Sun Sports and I was curious to know what was happening. Also STUFF and the cheerleaders came to my elementary school in part of a reading campaign so I got hooked(still have my Grant Hill folder). My childhood consists of watching once a year Channel 9 updates on Grant Hill, calling Steve-O clutch, and watching D12 alley-oops.

Ironically Shaquille O'Neal got me to like basketball via his physical domineering style of play but it wasn't in a Magic jersey.
Fun fact: My Magic memorabilia consists of a solid black D12 jersey and a 2012 All-Star ball with the signatures of Cedric Ceballos and Artis Gilmore.

Magic fans, introduce yourself!

Post#12 » by PrimeThyme » Fri Jul 28, 2017 2:53 am

Sup everyone!

Haven't been around for one of these so I figured I'd introduce myself. My names Jake and I grew up In Orlando and have been a magic fan all of my life. My love for basketball started at a young age as I grew up playing basketball/football and played all the way through my senior year in high school. I had division two offers to play out of state but decided to apply and attend FSU. I am in the nursing program at FSU and I have absolutely loved my time here. I plan to become a RN and go back to school to become a nurse practitioner down the road.

As far as my magic fandom and sports fandom in general goes, I've been a die hard magic and FSU fan for as long as I can remember. My love (possible obsession) for sports probably started before I could even talk as I had two FSU graduates as parents and was decked out in FSU gear and being dragged to tailgating parties watching games in the crib at an early age, haha. As for my love for the magic that probably started a tad bit later, as I began to go to magic games around the age of 5. T-mac was my era and was my favorite player growing up. My love for everything magic only has increased as each year has gone by as I've have tried to watched every game (either live or on DVR) and have tried to make it to at least 2 games a year for the last 10+ years.

I have actually been a lurker on this forum for a couple years now. I finally decided to make an account around the time the this magic moment 30/30 came out where after binge watching throwback Shaq games from his days in Orlando for about a week after I watched it, I finally decided to give in and create an account. That's also the where the inspiration for "PrimeShaq" came from.

FunFact: I actually went to school with the daughter of a member of Orlando's staff during the Dwight years and she could get us into regular season games or playoff games really anytime we wanted to. Her dad could also get the players to sign stuff for us and take pictures with them on occasion. I still have a basketball signed by JJ and Rashard and a jersey signed by Dwight :( in my room back home.

Joining RealGM ended up being a great move. There is not too many die hard magic fans around anymore, especially in the Tallahassee area so getting the chance to get on here and talk magic with you guys every day has been a lifesaver. Hopefully better times are ahead for all of us. I enjoy talking prospects and tanking as much as the next guy, but nothing quite beats rooting for Orlando to actually win games and be contenders in the playoffs.

Sup guys, I don't really post much more of a lurker, but without a doubt I'm a die hard magic fan. My name is Edwin, 31, moved to Orlando from Queens, NY in 92. Been a magic fan since I've understood the game of basketball. 22 years.

Real GM and this forum in particular has been a mainstay in my life since I discovered the site and joined up in 2009. I've pretty much done one of these since I've been on here... I have no problem doing it again though.

My name is Hank, I'm 35 years old and have been cheering for the Magic since I was 11 years old so going back 24 years now. Seen just about every iteration of the Magic so far in my life from us being contenders to a championship, being a fringe playoff team, to being very dreadful. These past seasons under the Rob Hennigan tenure were very tough to deal with but I have so much love for this team and franchise overall that I could never stop being a fan nor stop visiting this forum. I truly do believe we will be great again. I finally feel that we have a clear direction on the type of franchise and team we are trying to represent in the NBA. Actually looking forward to this season more than I have the past few years.

Fun fact: I have never stepped foot in Orlando in my entire life and have lived in Texas for virtually my entire life (mainly in San Antonio). I do also root for the Spurs since they are my defacto hometown team but first love will always fall to the Magic. Despite this, I feel like Orlando is home to me mainly due to how much I really love the Orlando Magic. I look forward to visiting the great state of Florida especially Orlando soon.

Aside from being an absolute junkie of basketball, I'm also really into American football and a Dallas Cowboys fan since I was 9. Actually got to meet Jerry Jones, Coach Switzer and a few of the players when I was 14 and they were in training camp in Austin, TX. Also into wrestling although it has gotten stale over the years unfortunately. Lastly I'm a huge gamer. Big time hobby of mine aside from playing basketball/football. If there are any other gamers out there, you can find me on Xbox Live with my gamer tag being the same as my user name on here and on PS4 as ElfGod82.

Hey guys my name is James.

31 years old, grew up in Orlando. As a kid my sisters cats name was penny, and I was lucky enough to see Shaq and Penny play. I found this forum in 2011 after noticing how dead r/orlandomagic was. I asked where else I could read about the magic, and someone pointed me in this direction. I've been hooked since.

I really enjoy the varying opinions and all the drama that comes with this board. I had my most fun this political season in the magic politics thread. We actually managed to keep it level headed, mostly!

I had a hiatus as a magic fan from tmac to end of Dwight. I've been here everyday since that last wretched year with him. I'd really really like us to not suck any longer.

Fun fact:My interest for basketball was reignited after I ran into drew gooden at Walmart on turkey lake at like 2 am. Nice guy. I remembered him from when he played for us. He didn't seem above me or anything(other than being 15 inches taller than me).

K-Red I'm 31 (Turn 32 tomorrow actually haha!)

I'm an Aussie, who grew to love the NBA in the 90's with Shaq and Penny dominating the court. Don't post a great amount but always pop in to read/hear fellow Magic fan opinions on our club. Love em, always will stick by them. Have a good belief in our core at present just got to build on it!

Amongst my friends i go by Yoyo! Moved from the islands to the central florida region in 95'. Because of the access to games on tv..... i started watching more n more Magic basketball and 1999 "Heart and Hustle" won me over. Been the best fan that I can be. Went to UF and did it Van Wilder Style-ish. Stayed till there weren't many more degrees i could get in the field. haha Stalked this board for years.... but recently started contributing in the last 4 or so.

What's up guys, my name's Mickey and I'm 24 years old. I grew up in Connecticut and still live here, having just graduated from Yale Divinity School. There aren't many Magic fans in this part of the country but I've been a Magic fan for almost my entire life. Being stuck between New York and Boston, almost everyone I knew was a Knicks or Celtics fan (or Yankees/Red Sox, Pats/Giants, etc.) but even as a kid I always found fans of those teams to be incredibly obnoxious so I decided I'd choose a different team to cheer for. My family would visit central Florida every year to see my grandma and other extended family in the area and I remember seeing Orlando Magic apparel and wanting to learn more about the team.

I started to follow the Magic casually and it didn't take long before I became hooked. Even though I was too young to understand all the aspects of the game, I still remember feeling crushed when the Magic lost to the Pistons in 2003. Since then I've followed the team through all of its ups and downs and even though there have been a lot more downs recently, I'm still glad I'm a Magic fan. All of the painful seasons will be worth it when the team finally wins it all, and here's to hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/MickeyHerbert
