Maybe - but can't they carry a bunch of guys on the roster into training camp? I think this may just be a classy move to let him catch on somewhere else since he's one of the odd men out here.

Moving Goodwin also clears room for Yakuba. We have about 5m to spend (not including Foye re).
Lin / Dinwiddie / Yakuba
DLo / Whitehead / Skil
Crabbe / LeVert / Harris
Carroll / RHJ / Booker
Mozgov / Allen / Acy

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
I do feel bad for him, I think he would have benefitted if we had him for a full season this past year instead of just 12 games. We had no depth so he would have seen plenty of playing time last year. He is talented but lacks consistency and his lack of a jumper is still a major problem.Mkdaman1818 wrote:

I'm still holding out hope for a Booker + SKil for S&T JaMychal Green at a reasonable price. Booker and SKil are basically 3rd string with the way the roster is, if Marks can convert them into a solid stretch 4 in Green... that'd be amazing. Truly we'd have shooting 1-4 and will make it RAIN.

If they're gonna block up a big chunk of their cap room going forward, I think it would have to be for a better player than Green.

Too bad about Archie. He seemed to be focused this summer. But he wasn't going to get playing time on the Nets anyways with the logjam.

Why waive Archie but keep Foye's cap hold? Odd. Marks can easily waive both when needed.

Point.
However even assuming best absolute case scenario (with no Green S&T). Linsanity 2.0, DLo RIZING, youth has all taken a big step, Carroll/Mozgov rebound to past glory, and Coach Kenny learning some slick moves, thats still what? 46 wins tops?
Assume Lin opts out cuz he wants to get deservedly paid after a Linsane year, that leaves the team with a max slot i believe. DLo/Crabbe/Mozgov are holding down the 1/2/5 starting slots for sure. Carroll still has 1 more year at pretty high money and can start either 3/4.
What major impact FA do you think will want to come? The upcoming crop doesnt look good unless all the potential FAs dont activate their player options. Would a LBJ, PG13, Westbrook type player want to come join an up and coming team, but without the ability to bring a super buddy, or more importantly be good enough to challenge GSW? Are any of the obtainable RFAs worth pursuing? I mean sure i'd throw a huge offer at Embiid if he proves to be healthy and dominant but thats an easy match for PHI, or is Jabari and Wiggins even worth going after for mega bux?
The only value of capspace next year is to play the eat a bad deal for picks game or play trade faciliator for assets middleman. I think if the team gets good theyre just not gonna bother with that game anymore and just look to make moves to get better.
Assume worst case scenario where Lin tears his hammy, DLo never improves, the kids bust, the old vets stay sucky, the team straggles to another 20 win season. Cap space wont do much in getting FAs, but at least now u have Carroll as a huge expiring to play with, and one can resume playing the cap absorb games, but at that point at least the team has its picks back. I guess going all in on tanking is the natural move.
I just dont think a 2+1 Green deal will affect plans much, but i think he can definitely help the team out with his skillset. I mean also at this point his deal is prolly be around the 8 mil range, so in my proposed deal they ge ta nice PF replacement and dirt cheap scoring guard depth for free.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
Yea if that happens, it can give us a more clear picture of the depth chart too. Right now our roster has quite a few players worthy of major minutes but perhaps not enough minutes to go around. Based on what I've read so far, it seems safe to say that Lin, Russell, Crabbe, and Mozgov are definite starters. That leaves the PF spot.Vae Victus wrote:I'm still holding out hope for a Booker + SKil for S&T JaMychal Green at a reasonable price. I don't think we can rely on Carroll to start as PF. Aside from concerns about his physicality, he's not a good enough rebounder unlike similarly undersized RHJ. RHJ can make it work because of his rebounding/motor, and defensive capabilities. But I don't think Carroll can. Carroll is probably best suited to a backup role, given our roster situation. Booker is the best PF we have but he's also suited to a backup role and because of his lack of shooting, he's not a fit for Kenny's offense. Carroll can play some minutes at PF, depending on the lineup but not as a starter. Doing a S&T for someone like JaMychal Green, with Booker going the other way, solves that problem. It gives us a starting 4 who can stretch the floor, rebound well enough, and play defense. It also puts RHJ in the backup high energy PF role, which is better suited for him.
Lin/Dinwiddie /Whitehead
Russell/Levert /Kilpatrick/Whitehead
Crabbe/Carroll /RHJ/Harris
Green/RHJ /Carroll/Acy
Mozgov/Allen /Acy
Although even there, we'd be screwed if Mozgov went down, which isn't all that unlikely given his injury record. So we'd probably need another legit C too, unless we feel that Acy can play there if required.

I would throw a big deal at Jabari Parker.
I think hes the best fit. And I think hes pretty expandable on the Bucks.

Could very well have been Archie's camp that requested the release. Archie asked for a trade back in Phoenix. He probably See's that there's too many guys here and he won't have the same opportunities to prove himself as he would elsewhere.

If Archie and his camp requested the waiver - probably pushed their luck one too many times. Archie's headed overseas in all likelihood. And for every Shane Larkin or Michael Beasley there are 20 other guys that never make it back to the NBA.
Wish Archie future success.

Agreed - looking ahead he looks kind of like next year's "Otto Porter". I don't think we'll be in contention for any of the major UFA's, but I think Parker coming off the ACL could be a possible RFA max, and if they strike out it wouldn't be hard to find someone just as good as Green in UFA. I mean, Booker is arguably just as good as Green already.

If the basketball gods were cruel to the Nets in inflicting Billy King on them. They at least made up for it some this summer by giving the Nets cap space during the precise off season when cap space was more valuable than I can ever remember it being

Yeah I agree.
There is no way Archie requested to be released. Unlikely that any other team will pick him up.
I too am puzzled why we would choose to release him instead of Foye considering how terrible he was for us last season.
Hoping we end up waiving Foye anyway.
