I don't love the idea some have suggested of trading Whiteside but here's a crazy scenario for you guys.

Cleveland in - Whiteside/Clippers 2018 1st
Cleveland out - Kyrie Irving/Shumpert

Clippers in - Dragic/Winslow
Clippers out - Deandre Jordan/2018 1st

Miami in - Kyrie Irving/Deandre Jordan/Shumpert
Miami out - Dragic/Whiteside/Winslow

But breaking this down it looks bad for us now but we would still have
Irving/TJ/Walton Jr.
Waiters/Ellington/Shumpert
JRich/McGruder/White
JJ/Olynyk/UD
Jordan/Bam/Hammands
this season

In 2018 we may lose JRich, White and possibly Ellington unless we use the MLE for Ellington but we'd still compete. In 2019 however things get interesting we could have somewhere between 60-67mil (rough calculation) while still having, Waiters, Bam, JJ, Olynyk under contract and whatever else we pickup along the way to build around.

With free agents in 2019 available like,
Lebron James (if he doesn't opt out in 2018) Unlikely
Kevin Durant (if he opts in 2018) Likely
Kawhi Leonard (if he opts out 2019) (Depends on Spurs success but likely)
Paul George (if he doesn't opt out 2018) (Depends on Westbrook/George chemistry)
Russell Westbrook (if he doesn't opt out 2018) (Depends on Westbrook/George chemistry)
Kyrie Irving (if he opts out 2019) Likely
Jimmy Butler (if he opts out 2019) (Depends on Wolves success)
Klay Thompson
Lemarcus Aldridge
Deandre Jordan

If we can get Irving for 2 years now and have some success (highly possible) we could try to convince him to split the cap space between him and 1 or 2 friends (Leonard/Butler/PG/Thompson)

We will have so many options at that point to build a team I'd be very confident in our chances in 2019. Especially if the strong West gets stronger when Lebron goes there next season. I can definitely see minimum one top 5 SF coming East in 2019. Kyrie's already shown interest in playing with both Kawhi and Butler in his trade requests so why not do it here later?

Don't be too harsh. This is just a fun hypothetical post to show what could happen if we moved Whiteside and Dragic's contracts now. Not trading Whiteside/Dragic/Winslow we wouldn't have the same cap flexibility when all the big fish drop.
