That's kind of what I thought as well. Usually I'm rooting for a trade but I don't want one for an older guy...has to be a young guy to help us not win but progress..lol...well u all know..

While Stone wasn’t Atlanta’s primary target in that trade, it’s still somewhat surprising that the team has waived him already. The big man’s minimum salary contract for 2017/18 was guaranteed, and he’s just one year removed from being drafted 40th overall. However, apparently the Hawks weren’t interested in using one of their 15 regular-season roster spots on Stone.

Stone...likely would have spent a majority of this season in the G League with the Erie Bayhawks.

Still, it’s surprising to see the Hawks move on from him. Stone’s departure opens up another roster spot, but doesn’t come with any additional cap space.

This move may be a precursor to another move down the line, whether the Hawks have their eye on a rotation player with their remaining cap space or they need that spot for a potential trade.
