Zach Lowe dropped a Hornets nugget in his latest podcast with Arnovitz on which they discuss his new Kings feature. Lowe referenced that article he did on Charlotte's team building two years ago and the Celtics offer for the Kaminsky pick in particular. Defended the Kings that there are other organizations around the league where chaos ensues in the draft room. Charlotte's like that. Too many people in the room, a few Michael Jordan family members are there, a lot of noise, a lot of shouting.

Correct, he won't. One needs marketing attention, the other gets it with no effort.

Jordan didn't sign him with the expectation that they'd be getting in early on one of the sport's next crossover stars in America. They signed Guo to further entrench the brand in China, regardless of the league in which he plays.

Michael Jordan gives $7M to open medical clinics in poor areas of Charlotte

Hornets owner Michael Jordan is donating $7 million to launch two medical clinics in troubled Charlotte communities, in one of the largest gifts ever from the basketball legend with deep ties to North Carolina.

Novant Health is expected on Monday to announce Jordan’s personal gift, which will fund Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinics to be built in north and northwest Charlotte. One will be at 3149 and 3153 Freedom Drive; the other will be in the Brightwalk development on Statesville Avenue.

Officials said the clinics will target a crescent-shaped region, hugging roughly an area north of uptown’s skyscrapers, home to some of the city’s densest concentrations of poverty. Opening of the clinics is projected for late 2020.

G.O.A.T: The Michael Jordan Thread

Post#448 » by 316Hornets » Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:02 pm

It seems like a lot of posters have been pointing at this player or that player and you just have to wonder what this team could have been if MJ didn't sell his assets for money ALL THE TIME. The Biyombo contract looks like the worse one on the roster to me and why did we take that on? So, MJ could put 5 mil in his pocket. These deals leave casual fans scratching their heads while MJ gets to act surprised when the team blows every year. Like, for once, can the guy just say no to the money and get the best deal possible to improve the team?

JUL 6 2018

you could equally paint him as profligate for agreeing to contracts such as the Nicola Batum travesty

maybe you should drop greedy and stick to just terrible

I don't think he's necessarily cheap. Other owners, like Sarver from the Phoenix Suns, will outright refuse to spend regardless of how good the team may be. MJ has been more willing to shell out big money (and keep a high salary, I think ours is in the top half of the league) than I expected when he bought the team considering he's one of the least wealthy owners.

I think selling all those 2nds was less about being cheap and more that management completely underestimated the value of those picks. FO probably thought they were getting 1.5million a pop for 'nothing', when in fact they were trading away there shot at hitting a lucky shot like Draymond Green, Jokic, Deandre Jordan, etc.

The money you mentioned here is chump change to an NBA franchise. Additionally none of the players in the transactions you mentioned are difference makers.

The only thing you can point to as really being cheap is selling the second round picks and I think that is over with. Mitch seems to think he can hit on some players in the second round like he did with the Lakers.

George Shin not resigning Zo is what a cheap owner looks like. We have never had enough talent on the team to justify going into the tax.

I can't believe MJ took about $10 million over Brian Roberts, Troy Daniels, Frank Jackson, Mozgov, Diallo, and Hibbert. Those guys could have contributed to at least 20 more losses and a better draft pick. What a cheapskate.
Who I woulda took:
2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: Porter Jr | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

So should we have kept Mozgov or Dwight Howard? Which one of those guys are great upgrades to Biz again?

I dont think he is greedy, but he does meddle way to much. Look at the best ran franchises, for the most part their owners stay out of making "on the court" decisions.

You guys are missing the point entirely. The point is that he could have found better deals, but took the money deals. Those could have been picks or players instead of cash that he got back.

We could have bought out Dwight like Brooklyn did and have 17 mil extra to spend next season.

I don't think he's cheap, just terrible at choosing front office talent and then leaving them alone.

how can we complain about these types of threads in the GB when, we still have to address this on our own board.

Neither, he is average in spending and competency. I think he got hood winked by Cho and his "advisors" a couple of times. I think he trusts Kupchak (UNC) enough to let him rebuild this mess.
