Yeah, and to think a poster (or two) actually promoted that crap on this board.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

It's amazing that Trump is still at about 38% and command 85% of the Republican vote. That so many followers believe he is doing a good job and those are the ones being hurt most by the Trump policies. I understand his ratings will never fall below 25% because of the radical Christian right who are little more than living zombies.

Yes many reasons that Trump was elected but mainly because Clinton had as many flaws as Trump and was toxic in major areas of the USA. The bragdacious Trump is not expanding the American economy it is bumping along at the same growth rate as the Obama administration with projected GDP @ 2.0% not the Trumpian 3.0% +. The dismantling safety nets for consumers and workers is a travisty and a all out attack on Science is shameful.

Trump is becoming a modern equivilant of Mussilini except he can't get the trains or anything else to run on time. America has become a laughing stock in the world and can't be taken seriously.

Yup, Clinton had her problems. Her rhetoric was not defined by idealism but moreso realism. Her way of speaking appealed to older/wealthier people but had trouble tapping into younger voters. Her way of talking was more stiff and comparable to someone like John Kerry than someone like Obama or even her husband. She also ran a very poor campaign, ie not apologizing sooner for the servers and failing to visit Michigan even once. To top it all off, she was already hated by the Republicans, much like how a sports fan hates a team or player and any negative accusation, even false, stuck to her because of that (she/Podesta ran a child sex ring, she has a doctor surrounding her).

That being said, there is a good chance she could run again but I'm hoping the Democrats can field a stronger candidate.

Nixon had ~ 24% approval rating on the eve of his resignation.

Series of great quotes in today's WaPo Daily 202 by Jeff Flake. I profoundly disgree with many of his
policy positions but these quotes are like Campbell's Soup, mmm, mmm good.

Is Trump a Republican? I don't think so. Is Trump a Conservative? I don't think so. Is he a Fiscal Conservative, no.

Other than America first - what is his guiding doctrine? It is the best “deals” for America.

The problem with that is it doesn't cut to the rest of government - in other words, it isn't a methodology to govern. Add to that, a President that is about his own brand first and America second and you get what we have.

Really not much else to say, right?

Ya know, after watching Stephen Miller's press conference, and the new affirmative action policy, I've come to the conclusion that SOS Clinton wasn't wrong.

They really are deplorable.

They are doubling-down on the White Supremacy agenda. Trust me, whites are taking notices and the alt-right sites are just giddy with excitement at what they are seeing from this administration, they couldn't have planned it better themselves.

*Voter suppression of minorities
*Purge voters rolls
*Have the DOJ pursue discrimination against whites (what a gift)
*Decrease the number of brown people through attrition while increasing the number of white allowed into the country thus slowing-down the browning of America

In bringing in the new immigration rules the policies of Canada and Australia were mentioned as models.
Yes Canada does have a point system to bring in as many skilled workers as possible. Yes points are awarded for fluency in either English or French but only a part of the process.
But it also brings in large numbers of refugees every year with a increasing number crossing the border from USA.
Canada does have immigrant workers programs geared for farm workers and service workers.
Canada will welcome over 300,000 new people to our mosiac this year including 40,000 refugees the equivilant to 3 million in USA.
Also graduates of our universities from foreign countries are encouraged to remain in Canada.

*What "voter suppression" is advocated by this administration?

*How is purging voter rolls of dead people, non-citizens, and people registered in multiple states a bad thing?

*Why shouldn't the DOJ pursue discrimination against whites and Asians (it's mostly Asians suffering from discrimination) in academic admissions?

*It's interesting that your advocacy of "the browning of America" is in no way racist, it is in fact noble. It's about time those White Devils got what's coming to them! But you consider any advocacy of the slowing of "the browning of America" to be undisguised White Supremacy.

When did we have a national discussion on "the browning of America"? When did we vote on such a dramatic, historic change? When the 1965 Immigration was debated, Ted Kennedy promised "our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset". That's exactly what happened. Immigration jumped from about 250,000 per year to 1,000,000 per year. Why is it not permissible to reconsider this legislation?

Because everything you just said betrays a preference for white people over brown people for no reason other than the color of their skin? It's irrational and unnecessary and depriving the United States of an influx of talented, motivated workers whose descendents will speak perfect English, pay taxes, and probably contribute significantly more to the economy than the white trash they replace? Who says white people are better? I grew up in Ohio and I can tell you, white people are just as mediocre as everybody else and don't deserve special treatment.

Talk to the white people around here and they'll tell you they don't want special treatment. Just not to have their kids taken away when they overdose on heroin, so they're not afraid to come in for treatment. Competing with immigrants for contracting jobs is the least of their worries right now.

Again, why is advocacy of the browning of America not betraying a preference of brown people over white people for no reason other than the color of their skin?

Trump's immigration proposal says nothing about the color of anyone's skin. It's specifically trying to seek "talented, motivated workers" who are skilled and educated and therefore more likely to contribute to the economy. It is your prejudice that assumes these skilled, educated workers are less likely to be brown.

Also, nobody is advocating the white people get special treatment. Where does the legislation say that? In fact, the thrust of Trump's immigration strategy is to restrict low skill immigrants from entering, which is more likely to help minority Americans.

That betrays a truly astounding ignorance of the legal immigration process. You can't get permission to immigrate legally to the United States without being profoundly wealthy. This constant influx of wealthy people, most of whom have become wealthy by being more intelligent and talented than everyone else in their home country, is how we maintain our economic superiority. The consequence of restricting that influx of talent is to force businesses to rely on domestic labor, the majority of which, currently, is white. It has the same effect as a policy deliberately designed to promote white people at the expense of immigrants and our future economic growth.

And it's sad to see you leave off your list of voter suppression legislation the demand for id, which has been found by the courts to explicitly discriminate against the poor and the elderly. Its an insulting omission, almost as if you think we are dumb enough to be distracted by high school debate team diversion tactics.

Well, ok, although I see that the purpose of the legislation is to deemphasize awarding green cards to relatives and focus more on the "encouraging brain drain" aspect of it. That I don't have a problem with, as an economist.

What is disappointing to me is, why don't they crack down on student and tourism visas? That's where all the illegal immigration comes from.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/08/02/trump-gop-senators-to-introduce-bill-to-slash-legal-immigration-levels/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_pp-immigration-940am%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.4ef4e2f4e8a1

Although now that I think about it *even more carefully,* by making it more difficult to bring your family with you, you are still actively discouraging talented people from coming over. So it still doesn't make any sense.

Why would we need a "national discussion" of the browning of America? Was there a discussion of the "whitening of America?" Was there a vote or legislation when that happened? Or have you forgotten that America really belongs to a people of color--the red man.

So let's not pretend that white people have some inherent right to land that they savagely stole. What goes around comes around.

I can't tell you what's going on in closg00's head, but this quote from his post leans more toward a race neutral application of the law (is that really racial advocacy?) rather than racism, whereas advocacy of the slowing of the browning of America is, whether "undisguised White Supremacy" or not, pretty clearly racialist.
