Ideally, the Los Angeles Clippers should be relocated to Seattle and the league should expand to Louisville & Vancouver.

Why would it be ideal to leave one of the two largest markets in the United States where they enjoy a lot of support for a much smaller market?

I know that the Seattle market includes Tacoma, Olympia and the other cities around Puget Sound; but that's still not matching the greater Los Angeles metro area.

I think that people get hung up over the idea that there are two teams in the same city without looking at the overall realities of the market. I've read reports that it would almost be more reasonable to put a third team in the LA or NY market rather than expand to many of the cities that are always on these lists. I doubt that happens (I think that the owners would block it); but there is plenty of room in LA for the two teams that they have.

I like Seattle. I enjoyed my time there and I hope to visit again soon. I don't know if I'd be too eager to move a big sports franchise right there going by past history with their politics. The fan base is there, no question about that, but I would not want to have to deal with Seattle politics if other options of equal or greater markets were available.

It's a shame that the political situation in Seattle is so messy. Maybe Hansen and his group should go north and start talking to people in Vancouver. The Pacific NW needs another team and the NBA is pretty set on expanding, if Seattle won't get serious about approving a plan for an NBA arena then maybe Vancouver will.

You & I both know that Hansen is not going to get approval now. Especially with how the city is hell bent on Seattle Center. The mayor & council are going to fast track Leiweke's plan.

I prefer Sodo myself. But, unless Key falls through & it won't, Sodo's dead. I think Chris knows this. Hopefully, when they do break ground on Key, he'll partner up with Leiweke & co. At the end of the day, what matters is that it gets built & both the NHL and NBA come calling. Enough with the Sodo or bust talk!

All of the Key Arena noise is squarely in the lap of Ed Murray and his corrupt crony at the Port. Murray will be gone soon, before the final decision is made, and we'll get someone in there who wants it in SODO. If you watched the debate you'd see that a lot (if not almost all) of the candidates want it there instead of Seattle Center. McGinn and Farrell do. I think Durkan does. The only one I remember saying she wanted it in Seattle Center was Moon and there's no way she wins.

I get the impression from the anonymous comments that (significant) other nba owners feel regret/pity for the Seattle situation and if the arena could ever get built they'd be willing to expand despite the financial hit they'd take. It would probably be only a one team expansion however. Mexico City may be the only place that could get owners' approval & it'd be more likely that they'd move NOLA if it continues to not be profitable even after revenue sharing.

Given that Hansen's SoDo arena would be privately funded are the two mutually exclusive? Couldn't both be built? Seattle is certainly big enough and rich enough to fill up two arenas with events. As a former Seattle resident my opinion is that the SoDo proposal is much more attractive given its proximity to both transit and the freeways and existing stadium parking. Seattle Center is a mess and with the area surrounding it rapidly filling up with office buildings the once bountiful parking is now lacking and there is no high capacity transit going to the Seattle Center.

Only one is going to get approved due to politics. The city doesn't want competition. Because the city owns & operates Key Arena, they have delayed & delayed the Sodo project. That's why it will never see the light of day. It's all politics. The city & the Port, Mariners, etc. are all in bed together essentially. This is why, Seattle still has yet to build the damn thing. They never wanted it built! (SODO). AKA "The Seattle Process".

In the article it says, "continued opposition of union members at the Port of Seattle, near the proposed site of the Hansen arena, who’ve said the new building will adversely impact existing jobs." How real (in your opinion) is their gripe? Or, Is this just something the city is pushing to help KeyArena to be the choice? Has anything been proposed by Hansen to appease that group to gain their support?

Hansen is from Seattle. Born & raised. He has no connection to Vancouver. He wants to own & bring the Sonics back to Seattle. His arena likely won't get approved. But, he still could own the team.

If expansion came, I'd like to see some more radical changes to how each expansion team is formed
with each team allowed to protect 8 players which would include restructed free agents and the
bird rights to UFA. This would force teams to protect their own UFA to preserve their bird rights
(if they chose) and expose someone else to expansion.

The league isn't going to expand. Mark Cuban talked about it as much and why he is opposed to it. He has a lot of influence where I'm sure he has enough other owners to prevent it. Expanding just doesn't make sense for their wallets.
