Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
I would prefer waiting until season to trade any of our guards. Skil, Harris, Whitehead, and others will be working extremely hard over summer and they deserve a chance to show improvement before being traded. It's also in Nets interest to get better look at what they have in them and to increase their trade value

Houston gets Anthony and Quincy Acy
NY gets Carrol, Lin, and Booker
Brooklyn gets Anderson, Ariza, Kyle O'Quinn, and two future firsts from Houston

Russell, Dinwiddie, Whitehead
Crabbe, LeVert, Kilpatrick
Ariza, RHJ, Harris
Anderson, O'Quinn
Mozgov, Allen
Thoughts?
Got no reason to tank.
Knicks unprotected 1st, then it's different.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
Great article, and this right here echoed everything i felt about watching this team last season:
Pavlova, who knew she would be leaving the Nets, held back tears as she finished, according to sources in the room: "In my seven years here," she said, "this is the first time it feels like a team, and not just 15 guys on a roster."
Exactly!! This is why despite having the worst record in the league, I haven't enjoyed watching a Nets team this much since the days of Kidd/VC. The nights where we got curb stomped were rough as a fan, and Lin's injury was a let down, but overall I had fun pretty much every night watching them because you had dudes who actually gave a damn, wanted to be here, and didn't back down despite being overwhelmed talent and experience wise every night.
This comment however, was the best of the article:
"They even track the color of your piss," Joe Harris said.
Lowe thinks Lin/LeVert/Crabbe will start. I don't think Russell is playing 6th man.
This article also confirms that the Nets aren't tanking in 2019, and also backs up Prok's assertion that the Nets want guys to develop even if it only leads to 25 wins this season. I think we will exceed expectations.

According to Lowe's article next year our probable starting lineup is
Lin
LeVert
Crabbe
RHJ
Mozgov
Weird that we would start LeVert over Russell.

Nothing weird. Just further anti-Russell bias. If Lin, Kenny, Sean have said there will be a dual guard lineup and have constantly preached the excitement for D'angelo.
Anything else at this point is to try and perpetuate a narrative. Lowe likes LeVert and RHJ. He's clearly showing a bias there because we both know one of them will be coming off the bench now. I like Zach Lowe but he likes to play dumb when he wants to. He follows ND so he gets enough info about our summer. If I had a Twitter account, I'd definitely call him out on It.
I know for a fact, he wouldn't dare say TJ McConnell starts over Fultz in a Sixers article, though.

He links us to everything. I think he just throws our name around when agents use him to release false info for leverage.

Pretty much. Although, I'd love to see it.
This 2019 draft class, though...

Russell / Barrett / LeVert...

Lowe got juicier quotes from Russell than anything else I've seen in interviews, where it's usually "it is what it is."
"I think guys enjoyed playing with me," Russell said. "Now I'm going to make sure they do instead of not really taking it into consideration." He dismissed worries about his off-court lifestyle. "I think it's under control, but I never thought it wasn't."
"I wanted to play defense in L.A.," Russell said, "but I felt like I had to score every chance I got for us to be relevant."

Lowe is usually pretty balanced and when he works on articles like this - you can bet he has inside sources. Those sources probably said they're not afraid to bring Russell off the bench if LeVert is that good. Reality is that Russell is playing 28 to 30 minutes regardless of whether he starts or not. Same for LeVert.
Not really sure where the Fultz comparison came from. Nowhere near the same situation.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
He has good size and insists he will defend better.
"I wanted to play defense in L.A.," Russell said, "but I felt like I had to score every chance I got for us to be relevant."
Sounds good!
Atkinson and Marks put almost everyone on a minutes restriction. Players found the quick hooks frustrating at first, especially when they were hot, but eventually they got used to it because Atkinson was transparent about what was coming. Older players felt fresher. "I could play another five years doing what they do," said Randy Foye, who spent last season in Brooklyn.
Cool, for those who had a problem with the substitute patterns.
Scola will take the questionnaires with him when he plays in China next season.
Good for him, Yao's teammate.
The Nets are still bad, with no obvious path to greatness. They may need to bottom out again to open one. They may even be sneakily designed to do that in 2019.
Lol, is that what the Crab trade was for?

I dunno if this is part of that:
The Sixers can tempt veterans with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Dario Saric. The Nets have Caris LeVert, a polarizing point guard the Lakers bailed on early, and more draft debts.
OTOH, it wouldn't be wrong to have DRuss come off the bench ala Manu if his D isn't up to par and/or LVJ has made big progress.

Russell isn't going to be coming off of the bench. He's the most talented player on the squad...this idea that he's some scrub is beyond wild on here.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
Yeah I assume that was just a typo or misunderstanding Russell as a PG-only in an otherwise very good article. They didn't keep Russell out of summer league and practically declare him the face of the franchise to bring him off the bench. The article correctly noted a competition between Levert, Crabbe and Carroll - but that's going to be for the starting 3 spot. Russell and Lin are the starting in the backcourt, at least to start the season.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
A week ago Lowe was writing that BKN was not interested in facilitating a Kyrie trade because they wanted to see Lin/ Russell backcourt. To now saying he expects Caris could start at 2 ... it seems like he knew what he was saying. And someone in BKN said smth to him
Nets could be trying to send DAR a signal that he has to earn it. Not worst thing for him ...

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
Russell is legit the defacto franchise player due to the level of talent and upside, mixed with his appeal to younger fans. The NBA is results driven but its also a business...who are the team's most marketable players?
Lin and Russell. They are also the team's two best players. I'd be shocked if that isn't the starting day 1 backcourt.
Crabbe/LeVert/Carroll are the question as to who starts at SF. I am not sold on Crabbe as a starting SF until he can show us that he will commit to playing defense. I trust LeVert and Carroll moreso in that regard.
Someone is going to get pushed in camp. Crabbe imo should prove that he is going to get out there and defend before just being handed that starting SF spot over LeVert or Carroll.
I think rotation wise, the locks are Lin, Russell, Crabbe, LeVert, Carroll, RHJ, Mozgov, Dinwiddie. It's going to be a tough call to see what happens elsewhere.
