Not surprising. Kobe always does very well in mass fan voting polls, especially ones done by ESPN. Not to mention, the most popular basketball player of all-time just came out and said he had Kobe over LeBron all-time (albeit for a very simplistic reason) which is going to skew the voting even more.
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:

Water is wet.

You can't team hop multiple times in your prime to form super teams in possibly the weakest conference in NBA history and expect people to forget it.

That and his style of play has proven to be a losing style unless he's surrounded with a super team in a conference that allows him to sleepwalk to the finals every year while easily maintaining his health in the process.

If I could go back to 2009 and tell my younger self that in 2017, Kobe is now all beloved figure by fans and is considered a "Basketball Saint" of sorts, my younger self wouldn't believe me.

It's crazy just how much the narrative has changed on Kobe after his retirement. I mean, ffs, Kobe was considered the epitome of a selfish, me-first ballhog for the longest time (who of course, drove Shaq out of town because Kobe had a huge ego).

It really is bizarre. Forget 2009, I'd say go back to even 2005 or thereabouts and it seems like there's no way this could be happening 12 years later.

That's just crazy. LeBron is well past Kobe in the all-time rankings. He is locked into the "Immortal 5" at the very worst and imo he's easily top 3 all-time.

2016 was the single greatest Finals accomplishment perhaps in the history of sports. It's something you'd pull out of a fairy tale or some fiction story. That's how impossible to believe it was. That alone puts LeBron well above Kobe.

Yeah, I hate all these crazy people using facts and evidence to support their claims....

I've had LeBron ranked above Kobe for some time based on a number of factors but this random ESPN poll on August 3, 2017 has totally turned me around now.

Well, five is bigger than three.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Is it really surprise? I wouldn't pay much attention to fan vote results - everyone knows 90% fans have no idea about players game and impact and they look on rings/points per game/popular aspect. Rationally having Kobe over LeBron is like having Malone over Jordan at this stage and I think most people with just a little knowledge about players comparison realize it.
As I can see it's mainly new RG users who pay any attention and discuss topics like that.

There's a reason why i only debate ball with people on here, and one friend of mine. He was a casual fan until I taught him it isn't all about rings and raw numbers.

You're acting like Lebron doesn't also have a raw stats advantage.

Judging from the quality of the thread and the use of ESPN polls, I see the Kobe fans from insidehoops have arrived...
