Funny. EB has 1700 less Career MP than KI. And defensively, KI has NEVER been close to EB...who has 78 or 60% more BLKs and 78 or 15% more STLs. As a rebounder, KI has NEVER been close to EB...who has 293 or 20+% more TRBs. And throughout their careers, per 100 possessions, EB has more Assts.
Now, I know everything is 'offensively oriented' when comparing players, and yes, Kyrie has a .873 to .800 advantage in FT%, but when KI's FTr is only .259 to EB's is .376, it evens out, and EB makes as many FTs per36 as KI does.
But let's go to more recent times...like, this past season to see how they matchup. Interesting. Despite KI having fellow All-NBAers such as LeBron and Love, and quality players like TT on the team, and as you and other Cav fans have described, EB has been playing with 'scrubs' the likes of Warren, Bender, Chriss, and, yet shoot, our best player being Booker, it's quite telling, don't you think, that EB had a higher BPM, and equal VORP to KI this past season, and has a higher Asst ratio.
But yeah, you're probably right; KI is a lot better player than EB. It'll be interesting to see, after the trade how all these numbers stack up...
Interesting points, could be I have undervalued Bledsoe but simply saying KI is a lot better, but if he is so much on par with Irving, why in the world would the Suns be so interested in trading for KI? The fact is, KI is a much more threatening force for opposing teams to deal with, regardless of win shares, defensive efficiency and overall player impact. Bledsoe is a solid borderline all star guard, and I am not taking anything away from him by saying KI is better. The bottom line to me is this; Irving is the hardest guard to defend in the league, and their are few who can touch that including Bledsoe.
Because of two reasons:
1) Kyrie is 2.5 years younger and fits our timeline better
2) Kyrie is a 'bigger name draw' than Bledsoe is, plain and simple. The Suns need FAs to want to come to Phoenix. Booker? OK, that's nice. Jackson? Maybe, we'll have to see. But Kyrie, Booker, and ...insert new FA, and all of a sudden, maybe the Suns aren't so bad after all.
To me, that's why the Suns want Kyrie. I'm not saying Kyrie isn't better; I'm saying that to discount Bledsoe so easily is not fair. Bledsoe is more of a 1b to Kyrie's 1a, than a Kyrie is >>>>>>> Bledsoe...that's all I'm saying.
Yeah I agree with that for the most part, but I do not think that a Org that has been to 3 straight finals like Cleveland values Bledsoe as a 1b more like a 1c or 1d for those same reasons you mentioned regarding the "entertainment" aspect playing into a players value. Irving is mostly as popular as he is because of his 1 elite skill of breaking defenders down, and then add the trickery and really mastery of putting English on the ball to use the glass so efficiently and with such a high rate of success even against the strongest defensive player or players.
I think to understand what a players value is to the owners of these franchises it has to be not only looking at a stat sheet % and roster build timing etc as much as it relates to what he brings to a franchise as a seat filler and game changer and like you said a recruiter of other elite players in FA.
I get The Suns being Patient and maybe this is not the year they go after such a player, but not going after a player of Irvings value when one is unexpectedly available,& you have the assets to get him, even if the rest of the team is not ready to win a playoffs game let alone a finals game yet,is not necessarily something you can easily pass on, because they are in the business of making money, & even with Irving are not making the playoffs next year, but it would not be out of the question in 2018-2019.
I definitely do not think the Cavs will take back Bender, maybe Chriss instead of Jackson if the Suns are willing to part with their own 2018 pick instead of Miami's, but I cannot see Bender being enough. He could turn out to be better then Jackson and Chriss, but the rookie season looked less than good enough even for a young player fighting injuries,to be appealing in a deal for Irving.
