No. The records no longer reflect that .

Being down 10, 14, 17 points very quickly isn't out of the question in today's NFL. And coming back from those deficits isn't a big deal either for a passing offense. But the "rushing" team falls into this hole - what are they going to do???

I think it's simply a matchup issue. If the elite teams in the league can light up the scoreboard, you have no choice but build a team that can match that. It's a similar situation in the NBA with the Warriors. If they get 3 points each time down the floor and you get 2, you're going to be on the short end for sure.

I would suggest watching Super Bowl XXV... and particularly the 2nd half of the game. You will see the epitome of the analogy "They can't score if they don't have the ball".

And - using the Warriors in this example is a bad analogy. Apples and Oranges.

Pending Elliot suspension, Gurely needs a breakout year.

The Titans with their 2 headed attack at RB could see a lot of smash mouth this season, especially if they are able to get early leads and the defense performs solid. That drive against Miami was a thing of beauty but so were those Columbia blue tops with white pants. They need to wear that combination more especially early in the season while wearing the darker blue in the cold months. Nice seeing those Earl Campbell Luv Ya Blu era teams too

No. Running has become a clearly inferior strategy.

It is a lot easier for modern defenses to stop the run than the pass. Other than exploiting the occasional mismatch, teams should be passing far more than they run.

No way. Just a few years ago there was this team called the Seattle Sea Hawks. they were a big time power running team. They were just a coach short of winning back to back Super bowls.

A running back that is fast and catch out the backfield is the premium back to have and and quicker fullback basically.. I'll give it Blount , he had some great power rushes this past playoff.

Why is it that only the Cowboys (America's Team) and the 49ers, the only NFC teams that can proudly represent the NFC in the Super Bowl?

Now everyone says RBs are devalued and we have running backs by committee. The number 1 reason the talking heads tell us that a rushing attack will never make a comeback is because the fans wouldn't want it. It wouldn't be as exciting as a Star Wars passing attack. I certainly don't agree, and asking other fans, many agree with me. I'm not sure the guys on TV are right about this one. I love it when a RB breaks free for huge yardage. I love watching the OL push people back, and who doesn't love watching a RB trucking with little DBs hanging off of him. Most of the passing attacks are not exiting aerial displays anyway. Brady dinks and dunks down the field with short passes. The long bomb is mostly a wasted down. It seems the Dbs are getting ridiculously better and are catching up to the pass happy offenses. They are getting bigger and faster. It might be time for the pendulum to swing back to the ground attack. Let those big ole OLinemen smack people around instead of backing up 70% of the time. It would be worth just to watch modern defenses try to tackle. My only concern is the fact that the shelf life of premium backs seems to be going down. A great back might not last beyond 5 yrs. How did guys like Bettis have such long careers? Do you guys want to bring the rushing attack back? Do you actually believe it will ever come back?

Dallas might be the closest thing at the moment. The Raiders with Beast could put up a ridiculous rushing attack this year.

Not only those two teams. It appears the Titans with their two headed monsters in Henry and Murray will do the same thing this year after drafting a couple O-linemen in the off season. Looks like Sean Peyton wants to do the same thing bringing in Peterson to go with Ingram. They want to pound the ball a lot more like they did in their Super Bowl year. Like Jack said, I believe Oakland wants to do the same thing. One could argue Buffalo is a power running team. I believe they lead the league in rushing last year. I also believe Seattle would love to be a power running team but they have some issues going into this season at the moment. Both Kansas City and the Jaguars imho are power running teams because Smith can't throw the ball down field and Bortles is just terrible. But Fournett will attempt to change that this year I believe.

I would love to see the Giants being a power rush team tbh. Let´s hope for Bell or Crowell next offseason... and a better O-line, I really doubt this year will be good for the blue.

I think Jax wants to be a power rush team now and the new Chargers coach does too, which is interesting given that Rivers is so used to audibles and loves to pass. But obviously things would be much easier for him if they had a power rushing game.
