Does Doc getting relieved of GM duties open the door for same with SVG?
Clippers will no longer have Doc be the GM... I wonder if this opens up a similar thing happening with Stan.... especially if ownership has already reportedly vetoed a Drummond trade.

He's Director of Basketball Operations or some fancy title like that - he agreed to be coach so he couldn't be trumped by any player going over his head. You try and take it away from him, your firing him as he'll walk completely.
Our FO under Stan gets poached a lot it seems - for the crummy on court results, he seems to have built something in the FO that other orgs respect.
I'd actually rather he quit as coach and keep FO duties, though that just means Beyer would be HC.

SVG wants a FO like SA.
Everyone can have their say, all are included, no one should be afraid of voicing their opinion
I can see him moving upstairs permanently but can't see him getting "fired" by Gores.
He'll eventually become a "consultant" IMO

SVG is pretty good at front office stuff IMO All his moves have been solid. Doc is more like dumars. Emotional decision kinda dude.

Yea IMO SVG isn't going anywhere unless he wants to move on..he surely wouldn't take on less seeing as that was the whole reason he signed on in the first place.

Is this thing about a vetoed Drummond trade new? I have never heard of such a thing.

Not new - apparently Gores has stepped in a couple of times

No. Rivers took over the FO role after Sterling was ousted and there really wasn't anyone there. Balmer just had him step up and do both, not knowing as a new owner that it was a bad move.
SVG was hired in to do both jobs, by a new owner that didn't know that would be a bad decision.

SVG as President has done a damn good job considering the situation he walked into.
SVG as Coach? I'm not impressed

Re: Does Doc getting relieved of GM duties open the door for same with SVG?
There seems to be a general consensus that a coach/gm structure doesn't work well. Even Adam Silver has expressed concerns with the setup in private.
Doc wasn't a good GM, but he's a solid coach. He also didn't run the Clips into the ground like some front offices have done with their teams. Sure he made some bad signings, but who hasn't? Frankly, I don't see why this is now such a concern.
SVG wanted front office duties to avoid getting fired like he did in MIA and ORL. It was likely the same situation with Tibbs based on years of drama with the CHI front office. Are things perfect now with SVG holding both spots? No, but it sure beats the coaching carousel we had before that.
Ideally, a team lands a great coach and front office. There's not many teams in the NBA that have this luxury, regardless if it's the same guy in both positions.

Compared to coaches and GM's this team has had the last 10 years, SVG is still better handling both positions.

Re: Does Doc getting relieved of GM duties open the door for same with SVG?
Many thoughts on this...
1. I think Doc got too much credit for the Celtics getting a title. They got gifted a hungry KG which was more important than Doc's coaching. In a similar thought, how much credit will you give Lue for the Cavs winning in 2016?
2. Doc did marginal jobs as both the coach and GM for the Clippers. They have had a lot of issues with injuries, but still, these teams never went anywhere.
3. Ballmer may want to fire Doc. It will be easier to let a GM do it.
4. I see no downside of SVG being both coach and GM. It is so easy for a coach to "lose" his team if they are not doing well. But if you are also the GM, it gives you a bit more control of the player's futures, so they need to respect you more. So especially when we needed to change the direction of this team, it was essential to have SVG in both roles.
5. Bowers does most of the leg work anyway - it's not like the GM role is a distraction to Stan. It seems like his title gives him more veto power more than anything else.
6. Silver (who I think is doing an AWESOME job) represents the owners. He is being wise to try to minimize the use of dual coach/GMs. You don't want anyone outside the ownership group getting too much power.
