I am currently hosting a keeper league with 14 teams (2 divisions) using yahoo platform. Looking for 3 committed owners who are going to take this seriously as I’ve realised there has been a few tanks during our NBA draft. So, I will make my selections carefully. I will be looking for active, dedicated team owners willing to commit to playing in the league for several years minimum. There will be no prize money in this league. I play for fun and bragging rights.
The league will be a 9 category H2H with 14 teams and daily line-up changes including a 8 team playoff. The scoring categories will be field goal %, Free Throw %, 3-point %, points scored, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and Assist/turnovers ratio. Therefore, the roster will consist of 10 players per team with 14 teams in total. 14 x 10 = 140 players. Plus 2 additional injury slots. This will allow flexibility between a decent team depth and waiver wire which I’ve made continuous with a $100 plus (see league standing rule) budget to add strategy.
The positional breakdown is as follows;
1 Point Guard
1 Shooting Guard
1 Small Forward
1 Power Forward
1 Centre
2 Utility
3 Bench
The first Draft
The initial draft was a live auction draft format which began a few weeks prior to the new season tip off. The first draft lasted 10 rounds (10 players) which took a couple of hours to complete. Notably, every GM has to keep 5 players there after using a contract system using their following year’s auction budget (See contract rules). Owners can choose to draft any type of player based on roster positions and their own strategy. That is the magic of a dynasty league – there are a myriad of unique strategies to employ.
Silent Auction Draft
Every season there will be a second fantasy draft coinciding a couple of days after the actual NBA Draft. This will contain the actual players who were drafted that year. However this draft will be a slow, straight draft and will last for 3 rounds. These players would go into a development team which is separate to 10 man roster (See development team rule). Each GM will have 24 hours to submit their selection and announce it on the message board. If managers miss their opportunity, they can post there selection whenever he/she logs into the site, even if several picks have been made in the interval. This helps to keep the draft moving instead of constantly waiting for slowpoke owners (LOL) to get around to taking their turn.
Teams who didn’t make the playoffs will have the better chance of securing the number 1 overall draft selection. However, the team who finished last respectively, will not necessary get the 1st draft pick. Hopefully, this will stop GM’s from tanking half way through the season if there season is not going as well as they hoped and thinking I might lose as many games as possible to have a better draft selection. Other factors will be considered, such as who was the worst ‘most active’ GM’s, W/L ratio and average rating stat categories. Therefore, I will be using a wheel deviser to randomly select the lottery draft picks too.
Live Auction Draft
A week prior to the live auction draft (2 weeks prior to season tip off), GM’s will select 5 keepers from their rosters using a contract system using their following year’s auction budget (See contract rules). Therefore, the remaining 5 players would be put back into the following year’s auction draft. This draft will last 5 rounds and will take about 1 hour to complete. Notably, your player’s contracts cannot exceed $195 from your $200 auction budget at any time prior, during and after the live auction. This is our cap space and cannot be exceeded (see Contract rules).
Developmental team
Each GM will have a developmental team which is only used for players drafted from the silent auction draft. The developmental team will only be for the new intake of rookies. This is a team that is kept separate from your main squad and is used to help you by keeping these players without letting them go. However, there are rules attached to make this work.
This is only used for players secured in the silent auction and cost you nothing.
Your players can be called up into your main team whenever you need them and cost $10 from your wire budget.
First year contract extensions will start at $10 (see contract rules)
Once a developmental player has been called up to your main roaster, he then can only be replaced by another developmental player.
You can keep unused developmental players for a maximum of 2 years. This means players who have never played for the first team. Therefore, will become an UFA.
Developmental players can be traded with any players.
We are only restricted to the actual players who were selected from the NBA draft.
Finally, I will need THE GM’s full co-operation to make this work as there in no way (at the moment) to lock these players or create sub teams so we would need to ensure that no one drafts these players from the wire or the live auction. This is going to be done outside of yahoo and we all need to be vigilant. All activity regarding the developmental team and your players will have to be done through e-mails or the message board.
Keeper and their first time contracts
GM’s will be asked to submit their 5 keepers, using a new contract system. This is to enable you to keep secure and build your teams around. This will be worked out from the initial draft and the price you originally purchased for the player. Therefore, GM’s will have to pay a percentage from their following year’s auction budget ($200) in order to keep their players. This is how it will work.
5 years = 25% (extending contracts must take place prior to 2020/21 season) 4 years = 20% (extending contracts must take place prior to 2019/20 season)
3 years = 15% (extending contracts must take place prior to 2018/19 season) 2 years = 10% (extending contracts must take place prior to 2017/18 season) 1 year = 5% (player will become UFA the following season)
Trading keepers and their contract renewals, including UFA and waivers
Once your player’s contract has expired. GM’s will have the opportunity to renew their player’s contract. The renewal price will be based on the yahoo value settings at the time they were published. Subsequently, any GM that has not signed a contract extension prior to their final year will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA). Meaning, put up for auction. Notably, if a GM wishes to replace a keeper at the end of the season you would have to pay off 20% of his current contract from the following seasons wire budget.
Trading keepers are also allowed, the only rule that applies is that both teams will be picking up their new players contract. Finally, trading of draft picks is also allowed. Therefore, we require a confirmation message from both GM’s.
GM’s who decide to waiver a keeper which he clears will pay 20% of his current contract from the waiver wire budget.
League standings budget
A reward for teams who finish high will be given an additional league standing money which will be added to their waiver budget. This is used to secure players from the waiver wire and player contracts. Notably I’ll be introducing a continuous waiver mode, meaning that you'll have to place a bid to secure free agency players. All managers will be given additional waiver budget for their final position within the league.
Overall Champions = $70
Runners Up = $60
Semi-Finalists = $50
Quarter Finalists = $40
9th - 14th = $20
So if there are any players who are seriously dedicated and willing to commit, becoming a GM send me an e-mail and I’ll provide you with the teams available.
