Celtics, Jabari Bird Agree To Two-Way Deal
by Luke Adams | August 11th 2017

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2017/08/celtics-jabari-bird-agree-to-two-way-deal.html
The Celtics have struck a deal to fill the second two-way contract opening on their roster, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, who reports (via Twitter) that the team has agreed to sign second-round pick Jabari Bird to a two-way deal. Boston previously signed Kadeem Allen to a two-way contract.

Bird, a shooting guard out of Cal, enjoyed his best college season as a senior in 2016/17, averaging 14.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 2.4 3PG with a shooting line of .439/.363/.764. He wasn’t viewed as a likely draft pick, ranking 39th on DraftExpress’ list of 2017’s top seniors. However, the Celtics used their fourth and final 2017 draft pick on him, nabbing him with the No. 56 overall selection.

Boston’s two-way deal with Bird will give the club 18 players on its offseason roster, including 16 on the NBA roster, leaving a couple more openings to fill for training camp, if the team so chooses.

I look forward to an Allen-Bird backcourt in Maine, playing very serious minutes. Sprinkled with some combo of one or two or three of Zizic, Theis, Yabusele, Ojeleye and/or Nader in the front court, the Red Claws will attain must-watch status next season.

Ante Up when Zizic gets subbed in would be amazing and then like in european soccer, the whole Garden shouts 'ANTE UP' ... Next level stuff.

How many rookies can a team develop a year while still being in the championship mix? I'd say, one certainly, maybe two, but probably no more than that. To me, developmental minutes are a consistent 15 meaningful minutes in most games over and beyond any garbage time. Yes, the rookie has to earn them and he's going to get a quick hook and have to deal with rookie fouls, the wall, and having to sit a lot more than he wants to. Only generational talents get starter minutes, as a rookie, on anything but bad teams.

Last year the C's gave Brown developmental minutes, He earned them and made good use of them. With only one real rookie it was easy last year, but this year the C's have six rookies to deal with: Tatum, Ante, Semi, Yabusele, and sort of Nadar and Theis.

IMO, Tatum earns developmental minutes this year, but after good luck to them all getting anything more than garbage time!

About time. This kid can play and is good enough for the 15 man if the Celtics make a trade over the course of the next year.

Why isn´t Yabusele in these rookie pictures? He was chosen at #16 , way before Zizic (23) or Ojeleye this year (second round). Does it mean they don´t count on him (just yet?).

No. Those were just the pics that I caught. -- There are supposed to be pics of every player, in their new uniform.

Yabs is still in Europe chillin'. Guy needs to recharge his batteries for the grind ahead. I think Danny said he will be back in Boston in the next two weeks. That gives him 3-5 weeks before training camp to get in shape and work out at Waltham.

That looks like a good four or five weeks of informal workouts before camp officially opens. Me likey. (Don't know exact date for training camp.)

Look forward to sportswriters keeping us posted on what is going on and who is participating.

Preseason officially begins on September 30, 2017. So Training Camp must start about a week before that.

Theis has a game later tonight... in 4 hours I think. Dunno where we can catch it though. Updates from Celtics fans from that region would be much appreciated.

This weekend there was a mini tournament as preparation for the euro's '17. Each day one game. Theis played the first two (against russia and poland) and flew this morning to Boston. The german media called it a Celtics related trip planned in advandance, so he couldn't play in third one today against serbia. No news if he'll be back with the national team for the european championships.

Edit: Couldn't even get decent box scores for both games (i've the first but not the second) the german national team website sucks ...

Thanks for the update, man!

He's probably joining Yabs, Nads, and co. for the informal workout that starts Monday.
