Post that article about 7 pharmacies opening up in one small town of like 1000 people. I'm on my phone.
This is legalized drug dealing.

I'm with you. It pisses me off when I think about the friends I had who were addicted to heroin back in the day but couldn't get access to rehab. They were seen as being criminals and/or not worthy of our compassion...or resources.

But now that it's mostly white people who are strung out, it's a "health" problem and our nation's "leaders" are eager to provide the resources to combat it.

Yes, but back then there were plenty of people who *were* concerned about addiction, who *did* fight to get addicts access to rehab, who *didn't* think addicts were criminals, who *had* compassion & acted on their compassion.

Be like them, Zards. It was right then & it's right now.

Ohio sheriff: My deputies won't use Narcan

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/07/07/keith-bierygolick/457850001/

"The Narcan issue attracted nationwide interest after a Middletown city councilmember proposed a three-strikes penalty so EMS would not respond to an overdose victim who has required two previous interventions."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/06/30/let-overdoses-die-councilman-stuns-his-take-opioid-abuse/441720001/

In his defense, he was just pointing out that he didn't actually have enough money to keep resuscitating the dozens and dozens of ODs in his jurisdiction.

To be clear, I have much love and compassion for those currently addicted to opioids, etc.

And you're right about there being concern and people fighting for us to care for those addicted to heroin back in the day. But we lacked the political clout to get our don't-give-a-damn elected leaders to share that concern.

Back in the day (love saying that), there was a group of us that worked with the Public Defender's office. Just by having an advocate (being in the courtroom) we were able to reduce or waive sentences and get them in rehab programs - other than feeling good the additional benefit is that it pissed the DA off :)

Don't worry, we still lack the clout to get anything meaningful done...

It's basically legalized murder. But companies like AmerisourceBergen have hundreds of millions to buy the folks on Capitol
Hill and to fight any legal battle they face.

Yes, all those rednecks dying of heroin overdoses are mad at US, the Dems, for blowing them off, and being a bunch of racist, xenophobic, misogynist d!cks they punished us by electing Trump. I get it. It's infuriating.

Still. If a nazi skinhead comes into your ER with swastikas tattooed all over his body, dying of a heroin overdose, would you withhold the narcan because you disagree with his behavior? If not, why would you do the same to a redneck, even a racist, xenophobic, misogynist one?

There is a deadly disease in our country that is killing our citizens. It was wrong to ignore the AIDS epidemic because we didn't like the personal lifestyles of the people who were getting sick, and it's still wrong now. We're supposed to be better than those evil, callous bastard conservatives who let all the AIDS victims suffer needlessly for a decade. Be the better man.

One little benefit of socialized medicine is that it is extremely hard to go doctor shopping to get multiple scripts since the usage is centralized and a pharmacy can see usage and which doctors issued the medication.

This is what you get when you promote the benefits of having "a homogeneous population."

I don't see the difference between this & what nate propounds here. I wish I did see a difference, but I'm afraid that experience of the world tells me that there is none.
