Re: Jazz offseason 2017 thread
The recent comments (after season) from Favors' agent indicate that Favors is most likely either going to be traded or gone after the season. Granted, these might have been made before Hayward bolted and things could change, but the spacing/fit with Gobert isn't ideal and the Jazz probably would spend their money on players with other skills (such as shooting) instead of Favors.

That's too bad. At the right price, I love his defense and size. I love his defense and size much more than shooting from his positions on the floor.
I mean, are we really gonna try to outshoot these teams? I'd rather go big and bully them.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Hypothetical scenario...It's deadline day, the Jazz are in a battle for the 8th seed, and the Lakers offer up Randle+Deng for Favors+filler. Do you take it?
Does it even matter?...I have LeBron AND Durant going to the Lakers.

Hell no. We've discussed this one. Deng has to come with 2 first round picks. Favors is worth a first at least. That means you are paying 3 firsts for the right to overpay Randle in RFA while having 2 RFAs of your own already when you've just taken a 20M in dead salary for the next 3 years. I'd rather lose Favors for nothing than take that Deng contract.

In essence you will be giving up Favors for the privilege of paying Randle 40+M(his own contract + the albatross of Deng).

Here's some offensive projections for next year:
https://fansided.com/2017/08/10/nylon-calculus-three-models-project-best-offenses/
If those hold up and the Jazz are slightly below average(as opposed to bottom 5 that I expect), we are winning 50 games.

2 months of Favors is worth a first?

Re: Jazz offseason 2017 thread
My thinking is:
1. Favors is gone in two months. Good luck finding a first.
2. It's a flat cap, Randle is more likely to get held by the balls like Noel and Mirotic than overpaid.
3. I don't like Randle, but he's the type of player we should take a chance on.
4. Our cap space is of low opportunity cost.
5. Expiring contracts are valuable in a flat cap.

So... expiring contracts are valuable... just not the ones of players that have been great and can actually still be great. Then they are "gone in 2 months" and "good luck finding a first" for them?
To me Favors is better player AND prospect for the future than Randle. I wouldn't trade one for the other straight up... let alone absorbing 3/60 of an albatross of a contract in the process...

If you agree to take on Deng its because you are getting Ingram.

Agree. That's the price for taking that contract. Not Randle.GobertReport wrote:stitches wrote:KqWIN wrote:My thinking is:

They are valuable because you can take salary back, and that is what this trade is doing. They will be more valuable in the future when more teams have money issues.
Whatever you think of Favors as a player, it just doesn't matter that much to me. In my head he's gone no matter how he plays. Either that, or you're handing Favors a giant contract. I don't see much interest from either side unless something drastic changes.

Re: Jazz offseason 2017 thread
It doesn't even have to be Favors. It could be Joe+Thabo. Maybe a more even trade would be Alec+Thabo. Lakers could waive and stretch Alec and have room for 2 max contracts.
