Please give me a list of 7'3" players who have shown the level of athleticism that kp6 has, slow-footedness included. List or no list, he's going start to have to start *driving* on most of the "centers" in the league (as he did on the World Team), and either drive or shoot over many 4s. If he gets bottled up he needs to start the ball moving on a converging double to get ahead of defensive adjustments, whether on the perimeter or off of his driving ability, as ANYbody in the history of the game must do well if the goal is winning. All Knicks fans need to show a little fvkin faith.

Thought so, because listing a couple of guys who had the physical tools and skill to be really good, but little work ethic (not including Jokic)does not establish your point.

There will always be exceptions in the NBA. westbrook iirc, was in the top 5 in defensive rebounds. Does that mean that height is no factor when the other top 10 were centers with height? of course not, height matter for certain aspects of the game.

The vast majority of your best rim protectors will be guys with height.

It's the NBA, everybody has height. The average height of an NBA player is 6'7". It's always a mixed bag when it comes to who can and who can't protect the rim. When the entire league is filled with really tall players with world class athletic ability, the difference between an inch or two in height becomes irrelevant.

It really isn't irrelevant. and really everyone doesn't have height. KP's height IS the reason why his talent is even talked about. If KP was 6' 7' his game as it currently is would not be viewed as having such a high ceiling. His 7' 3" frame is what gives him that ceiling.

Think about it. The last two seasons big men have won the skills competition, not guards. First thing of note is once again, big men won. That's what made the headlines. Towns won as a rook and KP won last year. headline wouldn't be the same if these guys were 6' 7".

Height is important in any position, but there will always be exceptions That's the nature of sports in general especially in the NBA.

Here's where you seem to be missing the point, you keep talking about what height means to Kristaps Porzingis, what I'm talking about is what height means in the grand scheme of things. If Porzingis was 6'7" then who knows what type of talent he would develop. He might have developed more skills and even at that height still had a really high ceiling, look at that kid Luka Doncic, how high is his ceiling? Porzingis height matters to him because of who he is, but in general we don't look at height as what makes someone a special player or not. It's skills and abilities, no matter what size the player is, it's about what can and can't they do on the basketball floor.

Talent or not. It's an automatic advantage being taller. Yes talent timing/coordination IQ are ALSO advantages. They don't cancel each other out.

Scheme is a big part of the statistical part of the argument. KP helps inside and is usually on s stretch 4 on the perimeter.

Height is absolutely an advantage. He has good instincts. Etc etc.

He's a unicorn. Rare" multi tool, 7 footer. Not just a big who shoots 3's. He can put it on the floor from the perimeter. He can shoot from everywhere on the floor. He has a few post moves. The list is long. Someone said 7'3 SF. Yes. Is he perfect? No. No one ever was. Has he reached his ceiling? Seriously doubt that. He is going into year 3. Should be fun if we can get rid of Melo.

Porzingis can't put the ball on the floor, stop spreading this myth. He gets shut down every time he tries creating his own shot. He's a catch and shoot shooter. The putting the ball on the floor part is still something we are waiting for him to develop. He also does not have a few post moves, he has 1 move and it's a turnaround jumper which he still struggles to make consistently.

And here is where the disconnect is. I've never called KP special, I said he was unique. he's unique because of what he can do (skills) at his height. KP will still be a unique talent even if he only makes it to an all-star level.

You and other posters keep saying the height has no factor, when it absolutely does. It's what makes KP unique, and it without a doubt gives him an advantage because his talents are nowhere near special yet. I wouldn't assume what he could do at 6' 7 because he isn't.

KP height is the first thing noted when watching his game How many times have you heard anyone say " he shouldn't be able to do that at his height". I've heard it plenty. "skills of a guard, quickness of a small forward, range of a wing".

Those things are said because of at his height he's able to do those things that not many can.

Is that a shot he's developed? If so, who's going to be able to defend that?

If KP can consistently bring that shot into the NBA, that's automatic and-1. good thing it's a myth.

Nope, I never said he wasn't unique, I said he wasn't the single most unique player in the league. I believe you are the one who called him that. What makes Porzingis more unique than Joel Embiid? One inch in height? What makes him more unique than Anthony Davis? 3 inches in height? Ignoring the other players who are 7 feet tall but isolating Porzingis as some special breed because he happens to be an inch or two taller than the other guys and acting like it's something so remarkable when it's really not. That's where my comment about it being so irrelevant comes from, I've watched these tall 7 footers with guard like abilities throughout the league but for some reason Porzingis is supposed to be the only one that stands out? I'm not going to pretend like these other players don't exist and I'm not going to make one inch be the reason I consider someone more unique than another. If he was the only guy in the league with those abilities then I could see the point, but he's not. There are a handful at least.

I mentioned the shot in the game thread and I'm going to remember it for a long time.

Left handed. Driblling. Running. Hook. Nothing but net. And the foul. He made the defense look like Junior Varsity.

There's nobody tall enough and fast enough to stop that without a much harder foul.

Hey man, height doesn't matter though. He could've as easily done that at 5'7" as he could have at 7'3".

So Magic Johnson being 6'9" at the PG position had nothing to do with his dominance and versatility?

The question is -- did he develop a new shot? or was it just a one time thing. We know he didn't do this last year. Lance Thomas did the FUGLY version of this last year. KP didn't. At his age, we expect to see growth and development.

Knicks fans should hope that this is exactly what we're seeing.

Orly

So him playing with ball hogs was the reason he couldn't break down a defense and score without someone assisting him. Got it!
