Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
If you don't hate watching DMC play, I don't know what to tell you. That dude is a huge ****. I'd hate him if he was on my team because I would just want to roll my eyes all the time. So I just wouldn't. Save the max contract money and give Josh Jackson the damn ball.
Like others have said, Cousins has only ever lost games. Even comparing to the far less talented Deandre Jordan - hey, coaches love that guy. They say repeatedly that DJ understands defense, studies it, knows it. He sure kicked our ass a bunch last year, reverse-dunking over everyone. But the important thing to me is that Jordan is neither a loser nor a jackass. If DMC is not a loser, then let him prove it by winning in NOP. (Then again, if he did, wouldn't he of course stay there?)
I hate this conversation. Zzzz. GO SUNS!!!

By February I highly doubt cousins will even be considered a possibility of Trade/FA. I fully expect the pelicans to reach the playoffs even if it's a bottom tier seed they will start to surround them with better role players if it shows success

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.
Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Wonder if that would mean they'd give Rondo a high dollar contract in addition to signing Boogie to the max next summer. Could you imagine paying the luxury tax for a team that rounded out its 9 man rotation with Solomon Hill, E'Twuan Moore, Quincy Pondexter and Cheick Diallo?

I would love to add Cousins to this team. He's a monster and the only reason those SAC teams sucked so much was because of the garbage they put around him.
Anyone who says they wouldn't want a 27 year old C who puts up 27/11/4 has lost their damn minds.

I guess extending rondo would mean they did better then 6-8seed? Or just went on a roll in playoffs

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
The court date for Markieff and Marcus Morris, each facing a pair of aggravated assault charges stemming from an incident in 2015, has been set for August 28.
The Morris twins were allegedly involved in an altercation that left the victim, Erik Hood, with a broken nose, abrasions and a large bump on his head. Hood told police that he was assaulted by four men, including Markieff and Marcus. Per the CSN NE report, "A conviction could potentially result in jail time – each of the aggravated assault charges carries a maximum jail sentence of 3 ¾ years – in addition to a 10-game suspension under Article VI, Section 7 of the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement."
Its about damn time!

According to where? I've seen various top 15 players in jersey sales over the past couple of years and it rotates quite a bit but Cousins has never cracked it.

I was always against trading a ton of assets for him but I wouldn't mind signing him in FA, mostly because we don't necessarily have a clear cut front court going forward (as of right now). However, I think signing him could backfire since, as pointed out, his usage is so high.
So I'm not gung ho about it by any means. In his first 5 seasons he never led his team higher than 13th place, and he always seemed to be surrounded by controversy. Everyone says the Kings were a mess, but they've mostly just been a mess since he was there. He didn't want to play with Thomas. George Karl, who has coached all sorts of people, including Payton, Kemp, Big Dog, Cassell, Allen, Melo, Iverson, flat out wanted to get rid of Cousins...a guy with that much talent. Karl never really had problems anywhere else. He clearly thought Boogie was the problem.
He has been in the top 10 in fouls that last 7 seasons (1st 3 times). There just seems to be bad karma around the guy. We've had enough of that so I'd be fine if he doesn't sign here too. It might be a blessing in disguise.
I don't watch him too much, but I see his #s just by playing fantasy b-ball, so there is no denying his individual talent. That never seemed to translate into his team being any good...it's not just that he's never made the playoffs. He's never been close. He finished 13th or lower 5 times, and once finished 10th but only won 33 games that year.
But if we did sign him and didn't give up anything for him, he should always have plenty of trade value even though it might be a hard decision to trade a major free agent signing.
I can't really see him being the best player on a contender, though it doesn't look like we have that right now anyway so if we just continued to miss the playoffs I guess at least we are used to it.
But perhaps a guy like Watson or the right coach gets through to him. I think a good comparison for this type of scenario could be Zach Randolph who played his first 6 years in Portland, for what was known as the jail blazers, and it wasn't until he went to NY where he started to improve his reputation and then when he got to Memphis one year later in free agency, he suddenly became this lovable fan favorite.
That's about the best positive semi-parallel situation I can think of. It's hard to deny his talent, and it's hard not to TRY and sign him, so I imagine we will try and that is the type of scenario we could hope for. He is obviously better than Randolph as well. Having a guy like Chandler around (if he still is) could help too.

The closest thing i can find is through the NBA.com store. Cousins Kings jersey is still listed as a top seller, but we will throw that one out. If you select jerseys, sort them by best selling, and change the products per page to the highest (which is 86), you get 2 Cousins jerseys showing up on page 2 and another one on page 4, while the 1st Jordan one doesnt even show up until the end of page 5.
http://store.nba.com/Jerseys/on_sale/yes/pg/1/ps/84/so/top_sellers
Im just saying, between the two, Cousins sells more Jerseys than Jordan. He is the bigger star with the bigger name putting up the better stats at a better age.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I actually met ZBO quite a few times when i lived in Portland during the Jailblazers era. I worked for a high end detailing company and detailed his black Hummer and Jaguar multiple times. Always was a nice guy to everyone.
Also have been to Phil Knights house on 20+ occasions. Its amazing. He also had an amazing collection of cars (15+).

Oh, ok, I was thinking he was a big time jersey seller based on your post. He has 1 jersey in 130th place. You'd think switching teams his Pelicans jersey might sell more too. But being behind guys like Brogdon and Smart doesn't seem great. Though I didn't see any Suns, so I guess he might be our best jersey seller. Though maybe with Jackson being are biggest hyped rookie in a long time he will sell quite a few.

Of course there is the fact that ZBo signs with the Kings and gets caught with drugs and might be out of the league too...so maybe pudgy PF + Sac = bad mix. And of course DMC got in shape this offseason (probably in part because of being in contract year).

Minimum 3.5 years and 10 game suspension? We already know they won't get 3.5 years.

He will probably get house arrest and be able to drink slightly fermented drinks and blow high enough on the BAC to be drunk and get away with it. Oh wait, wrong sport.

Ths is really interesting to me. Wade would be a good replacement for Kyrie in CLE. Even at his age Wades D is probably better than Kyries. Wade may not be able to handle the minutes, but for the playoffs Wade would be great. What Wade doesn't bring is a consistent 3pt shot.
If they switch out Irving for DJ+ that team would be formidable, and would have a chance even after LBJ leaves, since Love and DJ would both have deals for an extra year. Pick and Roll between DJ and Bron would be ridiculous, especially when you have Love as an outlet option on one side and Wade at the elbow on the opposite side with Smiths 3 ball in the corner. That would be very hard to guard.
Wade
Smith
LBJ
Love
Jordan
So why go to MIA except to retire where he started? Hard to see MIA benching Dion after his contract, or Wade after his history.

Re: Trade & FA Ideas & Discussion
I would be fine with signing Cousins in FA (not trading for him). Reason being you are only giving up money--not prospects, to add him, and he is young enough to be a key part of a rebuild. Also, we have to capitalize on our rookie contracts in the next 2 offseasons before Booker comes up for RFA, and I think Cousins is one of the few stars who is attainable and makes actual sense for us position-wise and age-wise.
