yeah the celtics sucked when thomas was on the bench...irving's gonna have to score points AND get the other guys involved. something he's never been able to do in cleveland.
cavs are the clear winner here at this point in time. even if they lose lebron, they have a nice pick to rebuild with.

Which palm reader told you the future?!

Gasol already expressed interest in a trade, MEM has to look at rebuild whether they like it or not. A top 5 pick in a very top heavy draft is about as damn good of a package as they can dream of getting. But maybe the long line in your palm dictates what will happen.

I already can guess what youre palm dictates, but its a family forum.

Celtics overpaid. Plain and simple. They weren't the team that "needed" to make a deal right now. Cleveland was. The only way it's excusable is if Thomas is used goods and is destined to be an awful deadweight contract once he signs his extension.

It's not just IT and the pick. Crowder and his contract have to be seen as good value and zizic is on a rookie deal after being a first rounder. That's a big package to give to a conference rival who was under more pressure than you were.

Between Bradley and Crowder they lost a lot of perimeter defense this summer and replaced them with Morris and Hayward. It's possible they take a step back this year and aren't amazingly suited to become a legit contender the next few years either.

Boston gets worse with this trade.

It makes sense from a long term perspective though.

Please don't instigate like this. Completely uncalled for. Won't issue a warning this time but I'll be keeping an eye on you.

Ainge must've gotten tired of critics bullying him about his reluctance to deal his high picks for any of the big name players who become available. Overpay by him here though.

Man, if this falls through IT's going to have his nose out of joint.

It will turn toxic fast, knowing he's as good as gone and wont be getting his pay day (in Boston).

And he could very well fail the physical. I doubt his hip looks great at this stage.

Jheezus christ it boggles my mind how some of you guys just hate on Boston for the sake of hating on them. They added a guy that's proven to be a complete monster on the big stage. One of the best scorers in the game, just a pure offensive dominant talent. Just imagine him playing with a coach like Brad Stevens. Making him play team ball for once in his career. You guys are out to lunch. Kyrie is a special talent, and he's a guy that when the stage gets brighter his cojones hang lower unlike some of the players on our team. Last year we were hating on the Celtics team cause of "fake all star" Isiah Thomas, and how jar crowder and all their team were scrubs. Haha now they going to miss them??? Now they added a clear superstar point guard with a chance to be the man under a brilliant basketball mind in Brad Stevens. He's gonna become a better defender under Stevens as well and playmaker, that's what elite coaches do. He's only 25 , and locked in for two more years at a bargain contact. The cavs and celtics both won this trade. And if the rumours of D wade heading to Cleveland is true. The NBA is drooling absolutely drooling at an Cavs Celtics ECF. We're gone in the first round this year.

The more I think about it, the IT situation was likely a big motivator to complete this trade regardless of an overpay. Ainge likely made a decision early on in this off-season that he was giving up on short term championship aspirations with IT as a piece (i.e. he didn't want to re-sign him).

Once that decision was made, it becomes tough to see where you get good value for an injured guard on an expiring (and small) contract. The Cavs presented a situation where they are looking for both a short and long term deal. That almost never happens. That's how you end up rationalizing an overpay.

Still disagree with the middle road strategy.

Great deal for the Cavs. They arguably improve their current roster, plus get a top pick in the 2018 draft. Plus they save a boatload of luxury tax. Not sure what Boston was thinking here.

Boston has taken some big steps back defensively this off-season.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I'm pretty relieved that this is what has become of the Boston Celtics.

A few years ago, when they had ALL of those 1st rounders and tons of cap space, I thought for sure they'd end up as the Eastern Conference Warriors.

A Kyrie/Horford/Hayword team will be solid, but they're not remotely close to the dynasty I thought they'd become.

Bullet dodged.

Lol before the trade Celtic fans were saying Brooklyn was the worst in the league, zizic would be a lottery pick this draft and Thomas > Irving

Now all that's changed

It's gonna be interesting to see what Kyrie can do without Lebron.

Passed on what looks like a franchise player at #1, then dumps his top 3 players from last year for Irving and Hayward.

Such a strange off season for Boston.
