He's a great arm against RHB. Really doesn't have a way to get lefties out. FB/CH/SL with only plus pitch really being slider is a tough sell. His FB isn't fast or strong enough where if he misses he won't be punished, and SL against LHB isn't a good idea so they can pretty much eliminate that.

If he threw his FB 2 MPH harder with a little more movement I bet he'd be fine. It will be interesting though because his story seems to be he picked up a baseball a year or so ago after coming out of the military (not throwing for 2 years straight) and just started throwing. Seems like a prime candidate for a velo jump come March.

Either way we really have 3 starters next year so we need to take a look at everybody.

His mechanics don't look the greatest to me. Perhaps there's room for tinkering there that could get his fastball to the Marco Estrada range.

So, Rich HIll's perfect through 8. Difficulty: it's 0-0, so he might need to be perfect in extras, but he has only thrown 87 pitches.

Edit: appears the last pitcher to complete 10 innings in a game, if that's necessary, was Cliff Lee in 2012; the last to record a complete game of 10+ innings was Halladay, for us, in 2007:

...and the perfect game broken up by an error. No-hitter-in-a-loss alive, though!

Edit: ...and after 9.1 no-hit IP, he gives up a walk-off home run to lose 1-0. Not quite Harvey Haddix-level "**** my offense" hard luck, but not far off.

Wow. Gives up a home run in the 10th inning. 1-0 1 hitter loss in 9+ innings.

The Dodgers should have traded for Ryan Goins when they had the chance.

Yeah, 7 runs on 6 HRs.

Would be nice to have some more guys that get on base next year.

You get 6 to leave the yard you should be scoring 10 runs at minimum. OBP baby. Let's go 2018

The Jays tried to defy the Salmons Curse yesterday. He bestowed upon the Rays a shutout pitching effort to show them who's who.

So Koehler comes as advertised: decent stuff but poor control. If the coaching staff can get his walk total down he could prove useful, but his career numbers to-date don't inspire confidence.

The problems of weak offence and defence are what really bedevils this team. I hate the losing, but they are also, with rare exceptions like yesterday, a boring team to watch. The only plus of a loss like today's is that it's another nail in Shillner's coffin. He had the gall today to hoodwink his audience into thinking there is still hope. This team's chances are as dead as Monty Python's parrot.

Yeah, at 31 and with 700+ IP he's probably not going to be corrected. Of the 151 pitchers with 500+ IP from 2012 on, he's 133rd in FIP, 139th in xFIP, and 144th in SIERA. He hasn't been very good, and he doesn't go deep into games. He's a back-end option only if you're really desperate for a back-end option.

Hopefully the Salmons Curse get us through this series against a crappy Twins team. Luckily we're playing the Red Sox right after that. As of now, we're 20th in the league and in line to draft 10th overall. Really need to go on a run here and move up a few spots.

Need to really flail if we're to catch anyone...that week-long stretch of competence was a killer.

Everyone, please remember the general rule of thumb: there will be no double-posting of the Salmons Curse. There may be too much Salmons that can cause volatile results, and we may not get what we want out of it. Limit to one Salmons Curse picture per thread. Please be mindful of others. Thank you.
