From there we can look to vault ourselves into the top 4 seeds once CLE blows it up after the season. With that said, I'm fine moving RJ and Dre if it's for the right package.

I would be more than happy getting back a healthy Reggie at this point to just have that 4th qtr go to scorer. The P&R duo between those two was really good as well like top 3 in the league good statistically. But being that pick and roll dominant did start to become more game planned as time went on to a degree as well.

Need to mix it up more and get the ball moving as we have some capable playmakers now and efficient 3 point shooters at least coming into the year lol.

The type of PG I would really like though would be more of a two way player like a Bledsoe type. Reggie just gives zero **** defensively.

FWIW I don't think SVG gets fired or retires from the FO.

As a coach? Yeah, sure! It's hard to keep guys interested for 5 years.

He was hired to fix the entire basketball side of the organization - you can't do that and see the results in such a short time frame.

My guess is after his deal is up he steps off the floor and we get a new coach.

That said:

This roster has potential to make some noise in the East.

Dre & RJ surrounded by better shooting & better defense on the wings should be a recipe for success...

The fact it all hinges on Dre & RJ is the worry

I think unless we fall further back w\o any reasonable cause, he's got this gig for at least 20 games into the 2018-19 season, if we make it to the second rd this spring, I bet he gets a two yr extension if he wants it. We were worse off or at least in as bad of situation as Brooklyn with all our bad contracts when he took over, plus Detroit's not NYC, he's done a solid job, I think his coaching in yr3 sucked, but yr one and two he took us farther than what we were. Avery is the type of veteran that has always succeeded in Motown, the nasty motto, is the way to go. He's the type of guy that would thrive with our championship teams of the past. I think we take two steps forward this season, but unless we retain bradlely, we will again take another step back. But kennard is there he would be a top five pick in any other draft, so if he goes we would probably teater-totter year after yr to a top 4 team in the east for season eventually. Hell the wizards just did it and are we really that far behind them. They just had a good all around yr, if we got that this season we could sneak into ECF. SVG has done a good job, we've progressed and he hasn't shot the franchise in the foot yet. I bet he's around longer than his current contract.

I voted to let them grow. But here's the reality: Golden State has four of the top 20 players in the league. We have one player with a single All-Star appearance. We are so far away talent-wise from the top of the league, and we're better than at least ten other teams! Imagine how they feel!

The KCP/Morris transactions still irk me, but I'll move past that. Play your best 8-9 players for the first thirty games and see what happens. If it's good, keep rolling with it. (I'd still trade Bradley at the deadline for a mix of picks and youth regardless - he's not signing here long term) If it's no good, put every player on the team up for sale Hinkie-style and let's plan for the day that Golden State isn't so unbeatable......

This is absolutely the most difficult Pistons team to figure out that I can recall in recent(15+years for me) memory.

i very much feel this way too. in theory we should improve but there are so many things that could go either way.

- SJ's improvement
- dre improving (let's see if his fixed nose does anything)
- leuer's body not breaking down (SVG and the training staff have a plan for this, let's see if it makes a difference)
- the boban experiment
- probably the biggest and most important question mark: how is reggie's knee?

This is where I'm at now if those guy get back right this is easily a playoff team and top 5 in the east. But at the same time I'd trade anyone for the right deal.

I was shocked that standing pat is winning but obviously this board is full of the vocal minority. Makes sense. The more frustrated you are with the organization, the more likely you are to run to the keyboard and complain about it.

I keep coming back to where we were a year ago and how young our core is. Everyone says "If you can't beat the Warriors, you mise well tank. No point in being in purgatory." But I say that 2 or 3 years from now, the Warriors won't be the Warriors. And that's when Drummond and co. might have things figured out and have a few years playing together under their belts.

What are the realistic odds of that? Probably less than 1%. But the odds of blowing this team up now and flipping those assets for a team better than this one are even lower. I hate continually rebuilding. This team isn't bad and we're in an era where a 3rd of the East sucks. Let's just get some playoff experience and see how these guys mature. If they don't, then we can talk about blowing it up in a couple years. Right now we have a roster brimming with talent and potential. I wish that 2 of them weren't huge question marks but that's the hand you're dealt sometimes.

From everything I've seen and read from SVG your post is the most accurate reflection of his thoughts

Dre and RJ as well as the current coaching philosophy are the bottlenecks of this entire team. I just don't have faith in them at all. SVG's coaching has been all over the place and RJ & Dre have been nowhere near their worth in salary.

It hinges on how the above respond to adversity throughout the what seemingly looks like a tumultuous season to come.
