I know not to accept any rumor from Boston writers. But the C's even gets Woj in on it the last two times. Unbelievable.
Stop leaking stuff, trying to put pressure on the other side.
I hope this time it really blows up their faces. They can't stop disrespecting Jae Crowder. And they traded Isaiah Thomas after he played in the NBA Finals one day after his sister's death and after he recruited Al Horford and Gordon Hayward.
Welcome back, fellas!

Re: Around the league 2017-2018
Cleveland has all the leverage. Boston is so full of themselves from the fans to the media to the teams. The Cavs don't have to trade Kyrie. They chose to. Boston is the "acquisition" team in this deal, as they're acquiring the best player in the deal. Once the deal was agreed upon, Ainge went on and on about how rare it is to acquire 25 year old scoring stars. So now, what is he going to do, say no when Cleveland asks for more? How would he sell that to his fan base after he already gushed over Kyrie to the media already?
"Cleveland asked for the Lakers pick, but we said no... 25 year old superstars being dealt are rare, but not that rare"? Cleveland has him by the balls, it's just a matter of how greedy they will get and how much they'll ask for. I can guarantee you Ainge wants no part of having to tell his fans the deal fell through after his public fellating of Kyrie already. Hope the Cavs ask for that Lakers pick.
Btw if this deal falls through I can't wait to see the backpedaling from the Boston media.
Before the trade: "The Celtics are in a great spot, they have that Nets pick which has a great chance of being #1 overall!"
After the trade: "This is a great trade for the Celtics. They gave up the Nets pick, but the Nets are improved, I can see them picking between 7-10."
After the trade is vetoed: "This is great for the Celtics. They get back that Nets pick which will probably be #1 overall"

Some of the fans want to play tough with CLE and offer less now. How does that make sense? IT is damaged goods and they want to offer less. Clearly a case of buyer's remorse.
Some BOS fans believe BOS has all the leverage. Never mind if the deal is rescinded, BOS is stuck with an injured IT and a mad Crowder.
They're freaking nuts over there. I disagree with things people say on here all the time. But almost all the regulars here are are pretty well based in reality. They have good posters too of course, but a lot of them are just there for the celtics circle jerk. One post I read earlier said something to the effect of if they added another draft pick because of the situation, the trade package would be approaching the worth of James, Curry, Durant, Davis.

It is fun to watch the drama from afar. I think that the Cavs are the ones that got the better of the deal in the sense of how much they got vs the situation that they were in.
I don't see them having a ton of leverage for more assets because getting the value that they are already getting is better than what anyone else if offering.
How bad must the hip be for it to have a serious affect on the value of IT?

The other thing that is hilarious is some of the BOS fans being irate at CLE for leaking the IT medical stuff out to the public. Like Ainge has never used the leak tactic for his own purpose. Hilarious!

Crowder is a professional and has always acted like it despite frustrations. This season will be no different. IT's injury is not news to anyone and even if it was, then BOS would just keep him and not resign him. That's not that bad of a situation considering you have 1st rd picks from BKN and LAL or SAC coming soon.
Boston has more leverage in subsequent negotiations mostly because of league reaction to the trade. Most people believed Boston paid a premium for Kyrie, while some said the trade was even. For comparison, imagine if the Boogie trade was voided after the league reaction to it was in the media. Divac would be an idiot to accept so little because it was evident they could have gotten much more.
Here, there was no such reaction, there was an opposite reaction, and other GM's would be stupid to offer more than what the CAVS have already accepted for Irving. And now that other GM's know what Irving is worth to the CAVS, the CAVS are at a disadvantage in any negotiation. At best, they can hope to get a package of equal value, but they won't get more.
The CAVS are also in a worse spot than BOS is with Thomas because the CAVS could actually contend for a title, but an Irving-James feud would derail the season. At which point, James leaves and in all honesty, James is the only thing that makes the CAVS relevant. BOS, on the other hand, continues sitting pretty with assets, assets that a rebuilding team, like the CAVS will be next summer, are desperate to have.

People thought Boston paid a premium before the Cavs had a chance to look at IT's hip. The fact it might be so bad that they are willing to submarine this trade (which, as you said, people thought was a great deal for the Cavs) could potentially make Thomas completely untradeable until he proves he's healthy again.

I was hoping BOS would get stuck maxing out the wee wood sprite, so I hope the trade does get rescinded. Be hysterical if Danny either pays through the nose to keep him or lets him walk for nothing with Terry Rozier as his replacement.

Small addition, and +1000 for the sentiment.

With IT down for most of the season, whichever team ends up without Kyrie is going to lack a workable PG. And, there doesn't seem to be any decent point guards available.
Would Bayless be a PG they might consider? Maybe we could profit from one team's desperation.

Cleveland signed Derrick Rose earlier. Boston has Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier

Re: Around the league 2017-2018
Kristaps Porzingis reportedly skipped his exit meeting with the Knicks due to a feud with head coach Jeff Hornacek.
Hornacek road Porzingis hard during his first year at the helm in New York and at one point reportedly told Porzingis' best friend on the team, Willy Hernangomez, to tell Porzingis to "stop playing like a p----," which did not sit well at all with PorzinGod. The two are reportedly back on speaking terms, but it seems like this is a situation that could turn volatile if the Knicks underperform next season

The obvious answer to Cleveland's woes is T. J. McConnell. Trade him to Cleveland's for the Brooklyn Pick. This will ensure the Cavs will be OK until IT comes back.
This GM sheet is easy.

All of that huffing and puffing by the Cavs for what amounted to an additional 2nd rounder that will most likely be a late pick?
Hey, whatever keeps us entertained in August I guess, right?

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic but I think
TJ for Brooklyn top 8 protected is a fair trade. It will most likely be in the 1-4 range, but if it falls to 9 somehow it was worth the risk for the Cavs.

The PR damage was surely not worth it. Both teams looked foolish for a low value return.
I hope IT is healthy, does well, and gets paid.

TJ is not nearly worth a top 8 protected pick. He's not even really worth any 1st... but it is possible if IT is really going to be out most of the year that you could steal CLE's own 1st for McConnell and Anderson and eating Channing Frye.
