You saw what Jared Cook did, well Bennett is a whole lot better, and Lance Kendricks may be better than him too.

This offense will be insane. It will be so good that it probably won't matter how bad the defense is until they're in the Super Bowl, if at all. The Packers can use two tight ends in a running formation with Montgomery and then on the next play run a hurry up and essentially go 5-wide with the same personnel group. They will be close to impossible to stop.

Defensively, I think they are going to surprise. People forget, we were high on Randall and Rollins prior to last season. Both were hurt. They aren't that bad. It's a young defense, it will get better. I don't expect it to be a wall, but it doesn't have to be. Average will win the NFC with this offense.

Agreed. The offense should be damn near unstoppable.

On defense, we just need a crazy-guy-leader that will bring out the nasty in these young guys. I like the Brooks signing.

I think this is the type of signing that gets us to the Super Bowl and I'm serious.

This is the exact type of move we have refused to do for years, but TT and co have finally realized that if you continue to miss in the draft, you need to find players elsewhere. We've seen that this offseason.

Ahmad Brooks is an evil hitter. This guy plays OLB with Mike Daniels-esque intensity. He engages and blows up blockers. He can rush for power and speed. He plays angry. Guys who play with edge are what our defense has missed for a long time.

Not sure why this move is any more ambitious than Peppers or Bennett

Edit: Chuck too

Yeah, but Peppers was the ONLY real FA signing that season. Chuck and Pickett signings were clearly outliers as TT never went out and signed more than 1 FA in the offseason. And how often does he sign veterans at this stage of the season?

Brooks is the 6th FA signing this offseason. Let that sink in.

I'm happy with the Brooks signing, but it's been painfully obvious the day after the draft and Peppers was gone, this team needed help at OLB.

We all love Clay, but the guy used to throw his body around like a rag doll. He has an extremely violent style of play and it was entertaining all those years but I think he's trashed his body at this point. He can still be a productive player, but at a much lower salary, and a bit toned down so he stops getting hurt. Or it could be he's done too much damage and he's never going to be healthy enough to go 16 games ever again. I have doubts about him, even though I love him as a player.

Perry is also an injury waiting to happy, so while I'm happy TT did something, you'd think this would be addressed in the offseason, not just cross fingers and hope some dude gets cut 2 weeks before the season starts to address the mess that is OLB. I mean, NONE of us are experts here, but we could all recognize the 4 man unit of OLB was more of a hope and a prayer.

Oline is also a hope and prayer situation. We had the deepest Oline not long ago and now Sitton, Lang, and Tretter are gone, and we are crossing fingers Spriggs never has to play in a game. Don Barclay kinda sucks, he's your in case of emergency break glass, kinda guy. You don't want him out there, but if you look around and no one else is there, you put Barclay out there and hope he doesn't suck too much. AND HE'S NOT EVEN AVAILABLE.

I'm not trying to be a negative nancy sorry.

I'm worried about 3 things:
#1) The defense will suck per normal. Just a lack of playmakers and minimal pass rush (forcing capers to blitz and get burned).
#2) The OLBs will be terrible due to health problems and suckiness.
#3) Oline is living on the edge. Razor thin depth. Like Cardboard cutouts are about as good as our 6th lineman. Even throwing a backup in for a series while a starter is getting their shoe put back on could be a disaster.

Hopefully Brooks helps the OLB and pass rush. Hopefully Clay and Perry start drinking Wilson's magic water and have career best seasons. Hopefully the Nitro package eliminates the problem of our average to below average ILBs. Hopefully our corners grow up and finally start producing. Hopefully our starting 5 Oline never miss a snap all year. If that happens, and the rest of the team remains the same we should win a SuperBowl.

I get worrying about depth on the O line but really guys the last few years were a anomaly. We're now in the same boat as 95% of the league when it comes to depth on the line.

Least we have something 90% of the league doesn't. 5 legit starters. I don't think people realize that's actually pretty rare in this league

This sums up 99% of my feelings on this season. Offense should be unreal - defense will likely start bad, hopefully improve, and most importantly stay healthy.

I think the thing we have most to worry about this year is Mike Mccarthy. Love the statements like the one I bolded above - but until MM actually figures this out, and employs it in a regular season game, I'm skeptical as to whether we see this kind of stuff.

Shouldn't need to re-hash his record of choking in games that matter.

Here's hoping that the actual difference this year is the vets we signed (Evans, Bennett, Brooks, ect).

Also from a betting standpoint - I love GB at home vs SEA -3.

Don't like our recent trend of valuing character slightly less in recent years but signing Brooks is a no-brainer.

One year contracts are our friend. One-year contracts will get us over the hump again.

Stars are aligning, if we actually put some priority into locking up home field I like where this is going. Defense desperately needed another mean streak and agree you'll see improvement in the secondary regardless.

This is so true. Oline is the thinest position in the NFL especially at the Tackle spots. **** guys like Marshall Newhouse and Babre last in the league for 8-10 years because teams simply can't find passable O-linemen.

With that said it's a damn shame Spriggs can't get his act together because using a 2nd rounder for your swing tackle is a big investment so you would hope to have a good insurance policy. Wouldn't surprise me if the pack add an interior lineman after the cuts; that's a little deeper spot than tackle where you won't find anyone decent on the waiver wire.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Does the Brooks signing effect comp picks next year?
