the way KP is playing on Latvia is what I want to see happen with the knicks. I want KP to come into training camp knowing this is his team. I don't want the Melo drama sitting over this teams head. I am praying a respectable deal can be done.

Put Melo on Latvia, and then you'll see how badly KP can play. There is a rhythm to their offense that could be stopped very easily by the hooded wonder.

I hate to say it but a big reason for that it's because KP can't guard stretch 4s on the perimeter. They all killed us.

That's not it

All Anderson does is stand in the corner and shoot, like most modern 4s he's not taking KP off the dribble or pulling up in his face, so all KP has to do to guard him is stand in the corner too

What happened was our PnR defense was so bad that any time a 1-5 PnR was run, the guard would get lost on the screen, and the big (Noah, KOQ, and Willy alike) was never good enough to cover, so KP has to come off his man and help, which leaves a wide open 3 if our rotations aren't good (spoiler: they weren't). KP was fine 2 years ago, when we had RoLo (who was a very good defender), and even Jose who was a terrible man defender but understood defensive schemes well enough to know how to rotate (unlike Rose/Jennings). Combine that with Fisher who was actually pretty good at getting the players to play good team defense as opposed to Horny, and that's why KP looks like he regressed this year defensively

KP is quick enough to keep modern 4s in front of him, it's just that we as a team were so bad at guarding the PnR that he couldn't afford to stay with his man

Statistically speaking, KP is a plus defender all around, and more speciically, when he plays the 4, the man he's guarding averages 22.7 points per 48 on .518 eFG% and 16.7 PER. Opponents shot 4.2% worse overall when guarded by him, 1.7% worse on 3pters, with him holding opponents to 1.84 points per game less than they would against an average defender

He definitely needs experience to become a great defensive player (and core strength so we can play him at C), but he is absolutely a good defender right now even at the 4

these advanced stats sound great and all but just using my eyes, Willy can't protect the rim, KP gets blown by on close-outs all the time and he fouls way too much. Also I know that advanced stats say timmy has been better on defense since he left the knicks but I don't believe it until i see it.

IF they approve this, it's going to be phased in and may not even affect the 2018 draft. So tank games will go on for a least a little while longer.

The proposed lotto reform actually helps teams like us. (Hopefully) a bad team but not bad enough to be in the bottom 3. It flattens the odds for teams out of the top 3. Regardless, it isn't even guaranteed that this is implemented this season. Tank away.

Also, if KP plays the way he is playing in Eurobasket (along with Willy), we might not even suck enough for bottom 5 even if Melo is traded.

I'd like to see that plan first. That's what the lottery was supposed to do and teams still found a way around it.

I hope they make the odds more even and still figure out a way to help the bad teams. I'm not sure great players will go to small market teams. Here's a couple ideas. less of a luxury tax hit for lotto teams if they go over the salary cap, maybe give lottery teams the ability to offer more money in free agency or the ability to waive up to 5-10 million in players salaries without a cap hit. i dunno I'm just throwing stuff out there, what do you guys think? should they still find a way to help bad teams or not?

i doubt it at this point.

KOQ was never netting a 1st. I kept saying that everytime someone would throw that out there. Dude is a 15mpg player with no upside and kind of a throwback type who isn't as relevant in today's NBA. If you can get an early-to-mid 2nd rounder you take it and dip!

Nice merger. Someone should fuse their headshots into one person. 2 versions. 1 for Perry Mills, one for Steve Scott.

These small market teams still trying to push that BS narrative that they can't get stars anymore... Paul George just got traded to Oklahoma City, LeBron chose Cleveland in free agency, GS isn't what I would call a big market and Durant went there, meanwhile, the Knicks and Lakers have struck out season after season on the tier A free agents... Small market teams don't want reform because they can continuously sell hope to their fanbase as they tank to their hearts content while still pulling in millions of dollars through revenue sharing... Reform is needed clearly and I'm glad Silver recognizes this and is at least attempting to take steps to fixing the dumb lottery system that rewards what amounts to fixing games at the front office level.
